well, no-one actually is non-binary, because it's a made up thing rather than some-thing that actually exists in material reality. So a more accurate quote would be "it's okay to let people imagine they are something they aren't really", but I guess that isn't as catchy and it makes the whole thing sound a wee bit silly.

If OP is who I think it is, she's very into fantasy, but as far as I know doesn't actually believe in hobbits.... She uses the "It never happens" defence and lives entirely in a bubble of like-minded people. So she never actually sees that it is happening all over the world...

If somebody believes they are non-binary that is who they are - somebody who believes they are non binary. Similarly a Christian is somebody who holds particular beliefs about Jesus.

However, in the U.K. we have stopped insisting that people must share a set of beliefs, and we have moved away from insisting that they should influence policy and law. (C of E still plays a role in the state so difficult to argue that we are completely secular).
