I struggled to even come up with a title for this thread as I am so enraged I know I will get deleted and even banned if I say what I really think.

It’s about money and power. Same as for ever

I think wadwha partner has companies who are taking over women’s aids or rape crisis centres due to the way procurement is used.

So all the skills are being ignored

Anonymous questioners will be found, identified and removed.

That'll encourage open debate.

Perpetualnamechanger · 14/09/2021 12:43

Green MSP who also works for Ed rape crisis supports Wadha.

Sophoclesthefox · 14/09/2021 12:44

Cleansing rape crisis from focusing on women?

Wow.

That’s really putting the cards on the table, isn’t it? Wadwha is clearly riding high and feeling very confident.

Tibtom · 14/09/2021 12:50

This is what I really hate about virtual meetings - if the organisers don't want a question asked it can be ignored and the participant removed (although they don't normally bother with that step since there is no way to be heard).

NecessaryScene · 14/09/2021 12:53

Wadwha is clearly riding high and feeling very confident.

Reading too much into it, I think. Wadhwa has to try to brazen this out. It's the only potentially winning strategy for them. Any hint of backing down, or caring about women's rights, just leads to questions that can't be answered. This sort of pontificating and throwing stones is an attempt to avoid questions.

Wadwha can't afford to fold. So just need to keep the spotlight on and keep publishing it to a wider audience, and confronting decision makers with it.

WarriorN · 14/09/2021 12:59

Good god what was this meeting?

A male organising rape crisis centre strategy excluding women.

Horrific.

Is this event www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/building-intersectional-inclusion-in-rape-crisis-services-w-mridul-wadhwa-tickets-164138180717#

Invitation says:

Mridul Wadhwa, CEO of Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre, will host a reflective talk followed by a Q&A.

We are thrilled to host Mridul Wadhwa, CEO of Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre, who will host a reflective talk followed by a Q&A. Mridul’s ground breaking work within the sexual violence sector, will highlight their experiences of addressing barriers faced by people of colour and trans survivors in rape crisis services in Scotland and answer questions from the audience.

This event is free to attend and will take place over Zoom

This event is for Domestic Abuse, Sexual Violence, Housing, Homelessness, Youth Services, Police, Probation Services and MARAC Reps across South Yorkshire

Selkiesarereal · 14/09/2021 13:09

My oh is quite prolific on Twitter and just read out Jean’s tweet, quite horrifying.

I wrote to my msp to complain about their appointment to be met with radio silence. The snp are just too powerful so can do what they like with no repercussions -see also still appointing Jayne Godley to voice an ad campaign after they were made aware of her racist tweets back in June. They just don’t care.

CreepingDeath · 14/09/2021 13:16

Dear God why is this person still in a job? their level of contempt for women is appalling!

And to this from the invite - will highlight their experiences of addressing barriers faced by people of colour and trans survivors in rape crisis services Angry
There's not even a pretence anymore that this person cares about anything other than trans issues. They are there for personal reasons and to try and shoehorn their ideology where it doesn't belong.

And this is the pattern: trans people infiltrating women's spaces, and take over (male entitlement very useful here) so that everything on the agenda is now filtered through the prism of trans. And even mentioning women's issues is problematic! It's disgusting how many people are failing to see this.

Helleofabore · 14/09/2021 13:32

Well there is no doubt in my mind what they meant by reframing. They most certainly are referring to traumatised women being re-educated as therapy.

My god it is chilling the disdain this person has for women.

ArabellaScott · 14/09/2021 13:32
 • barriers in rape crisis services?

if there is one place where barriers are needed it is rape crisis services

anybody blaming rape survivors for how they respond, for anything at all tbh

is an abhorrent individual.

Rape crisis is a kind of emergency service, in my view. When did any paramedic demand to know the faith or politics or philosophy of the person they go to help?

Nobody has any obligation to subscribe to any political or philosophical or faith-based belief in order to access help.

Least of all are women required to be 'inclusive' when it comes to accessing support because of having suffered at the hands of males.

It's the worst, cruellest, most degrading and insulting kind of punishment I can imagine. Gaslighting, abusive, disgusting treatment.

Women won't wheesht, and we will not forget, either.

Datun · 14/09/2021 13:42

Forcing female victims of male sexual violence to accept men wherever, whenever and however they go to recover, is one of the vilest things I've ever read.

littlbrowndog · 14/09/2021 14:22

Someone else chucked out. A QC

The rape crisis movement is largely run by white, cis, heteronormative women”….

Inclusivity, diversion and equality drives have always been about organisations accurately reflecting the makeup of the society they operate in and that of the people they cater to.

According to the last census, Scotland is 96% white, with just 0.9% being black and 2.7% Asian. Let's say it's now double that, that still would mean 92% of the population are white.

95% of the population are heterosexual. The people from National Records Scotland told us in a meeting in 2019 that their best current estimate of the percentage of lesbian women out of all women in Scotland is 1% to 2% and the total who say they are LGB is estimated at 2.7% (from the Annual Population Survey 2019).

The percentage of the population who identifies as transgender is estimated between 0.5% and 1%.

So if the rape crisis movement in Scotland is largely run by straight white women, that would be because the vast majority of women in Scotland are in fact straight and white.

Rape Crisis Scotland statistics on those using their services also bear this out - the vast majority of people they need to cater to are straight and white and female.

So this is an ignorant comment in the context of Scotland.

CharlieParley · 14/09/2021 14:29

(Some people give their sexuality as other, that's why the numbers on sexuality above don't add up to 100%)

TofuDelights · 14/09/2021 14:30

Good grief. This is appalling. What with Graham's substack from the US this morning, and now this, I am just in despair. I just feel so flipping helpless. Sorry. FFS. Total despair.

NecessaryScene · 14/09/2021 14:32

Sorry, people running an organisation being representative of the people using it is "normative", and that's bad.

So it's vitally important that gay men from another country run women's crisis centres in Scotland.

Important to whom, I'm not sure. Not the users obviously, because they're just so normative themselves, what with being female victims of male violence. Boring. Hmm Judith Butler isn't interested in this tediousness.

R0wantrees · 14/09/2021 14:42
I'm adding some articles to this thread, including Legal Feminist's analysis:

legalfeminist.org.uk/2021/09/12/fostering-good-relations/
This is very clear, powerful analysis by Naomi Cunningham QC. It deserves to be read and shared widely.

Concludes:

"Wadhwa should resign."

KaycePollard · 14/09/2021 14:50

I was just coming here to start a thread about jean Hatchet being chucked out of today’s meeting

for citing the Equalities Act

So it’s now a censorable action to cite UK law

This is just beyond belief. Except it’s happening.

KaycePollard · 14/09/2021 14:53

that would be because the vast majority of women in Scotland are in fact straight and white.

And substantial majority of those raped are going to be straight white women.

CreepingDeath · 14/09/2021 15:02

Why is this exposé not in the mainstream media? It's quite clear this person and their partner have an agenda and are lining their own pockets on the back of government contracts.

This person is now part of a 'sacred caste' which means in some circles it doesn't matter what they do, they will be absolved. Which is so dangerous, this person basically feels untouchable.

What will it take to get rid of them?

TabbyStar · 14/09/2021 15:07

There always used to be lots of lesbians in the DV/SV sector, not sure whether that's still the case, maybe not so much thinking about the organisations I work with, though it's mostly at management level I have contacts.
