I struggled to even come up with a title for this thread as I am so enraged I know I will get deleted and even banned if I say what I really think.

Honestly, I think what they are doing is a deliberate gesture at the "t**fs".

In their heads, they're being strong and unyielding in the face of intimidation from bigots. Not saying that's what I think, but that's how I think they see it.

NiceGerbil · 05/05/2021 02:59

Maybe?

But their focus should always be first and foremost on the people the they exist to help.

How can they have overlooked their whole reason for being in existence?

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 05/05/2021 03:29

i don't think they see "t**fs" as potential future or current service users. We're not really women to them. Just a homogenous mass of oppressive, powerful bigots, and they're standing up for the underdog in the form of their new CEO.

They really don't believe any woman subjected to sexual violence could have a genuine problem with a transwoman as a rape counsellor.

NiceGerbil · 05/05/2021 03:48

What about all the rape threats though :/

NiceGerbil · 05/05/2021 03:50

So who are women and girls to them?

If s female person has no gender id or has never heard of the concept, their services are not for them?

MiladyBerserko · 05/05/2021 07:11

GC attacks?

It wasn't GC women who vandalised the Vancouver Rape Crisis Centre, spray painted abuse and threats to "T*s" all over it and nailed a dead rat to the door

Hotankles · 05/05/2021 07:13

I don’t think it’s a fuck you to ‘t*rfs’ I think it’s a fuck you to women’s services. I think there is some deeply disturbed individuals at the top of this that don’t want women to be made a priority in specialist services. Rape crisis centres and women’s refuges have been under attack for years. In the past when you walked in to a women’s rape crisis centre it would have been full of women - now there will be men walking around who don’t even need to try to look like women. Our safe spaces no longer exist. It will ultimately stop women from accessing these services. Job done. We will end up with services for men who have been attacked by men.

I still cannot believe they lumped BAME WOMEN in with trans women as if they are not actually female and a separate entity - divide and conquer.

A year or so ago I would of assumed there was a man at the top of this making the decisions. Now I’m not so sure.

The worst part is, we should have expected this. It makes sense in a horrible way that having begun to achieve equality, we would see this kind of obscene pushback.

But also can you imagine 20 years ago writing in all seriousness: "men will use the Internet to reprogramme the real world; they will normalise extreme porn; they will redefine the word 'women' to a set of stereotypes or feelings; they will say that men can be lesbians without a hint of humour and take over organisations like Stonewall; they will publicly shut down women's resources including web forums and refuges; they will take over and remove women's single sex facilities ... AND a sizable group of women will loudly cheerlead them on the whole goddamn time."

It's bonkers.

And the ACLU, and Amnesty, and the police, and city councils, and the Guides, and the frigging WI will be cheering them on.
Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/05/2021 07:44

Fucking hell. Are all word meanings up for grabs now?

Yes. Unless it means sending graphic rape and death threats to women online, then all of a sudden it isn't so important, it's on "both sides" and we're petty to even mention it.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 05/05/2021 07:44

During the #SixWords campaign, I got into a few arguments online with young women who were against the amendment. They all kept parrotting that rape victims shouldn't "punch down" by asking for a female doctor to do the medical examination. Confused

There seems to be a strenge lack of understanding of what patient-centred care means. Even at the best of times, you should be entitled to ask for a different HCP. As if a transgender medical examiner could ever be the most vulnerable person in the room when a woman reports that someone has raped her. I feel furious all over again, just remembering the discussions.

somethinginoffensive · 05/05/2021 07:48

And this constant fucking with words.

Attacked used to mean and still does to most people, real life violence.

It certainly does to me, if you mean attacked verbally it needs to be obvious "her views were attacked",

I definitely would keep it for physical attacks though, because otherwise it just spreads confusion.

I suspect people who argue so much have never actually faced real discrimination or threats in their life. Otherwise they would understand fear.

Words fail me.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 05/05/2021 08:40

Punch down? For the love of god. They have no soul these people.

Heaven forbid that they ever ever need such a facility. How can such callous people function in this world?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/05/2021 08:46

As if the feelings of the male examiner are ever the most important consideration in a rape suite.

TalkingtoLangClegintheDark · 05/05/2021 08:53

Punch down?! I just can’t.

Things have got so, so bad when we have young women thinking like this. When we have ERCC and Rape Crisis Scotland thinking like this.

The women’s sector, a whole generation of young women, just brainwashed - captured by an ideology that prioritises the wishes and feelings of biologically male people over the rights, needs and safety of biologically female people.

And then claiming that this ideology is actually feminist, in fact, that it’s the only valid form of “feminism”, and that women who stand up for women, and for women’s sex-based rights, are not feminists at all but alt right bigots.

It’s like some awful horror movie. Only it’s real. What a time to be alive.

Isn’t it just.

All that “cis privilege” and yet we’ve been powerless to stop any of this happening, while trans rights activists have seen all fall before them, just like the men producing and consuming horrifically misogynistic porn/images of abuse.

I wonder why that could be...?

ArabellaScott · 05/05/2021 09:38

Jesus H. What on earth kind of privilege do they think rape victims are wielding? That is utterly revolting.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 05/05/2021 09:48

I think they are just being malicious. No one actually believes that a rape victim has and bloody power. And if they want a woman doctor - any
doctor should hang their bloody head if they object or get pissy at the request on the basis that someone might get hurt feelings.

littlbrowndog · 05/05/2021 09:50

What does punch down mean ?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/05/2021 09:51

Use your privilege to abuse or attack or victimise someone else with less power than you.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/05/2021 09:52

Which is so ridiculous that I can't say what I want to say or I will be deleted.
