I struggled to even come up with a title for this thread as I am so enraged I know I will get deleted and even banned if I say what I really think.

GCs are apparently attacking rape crisis centres. Which is rather getting the wrong end of the stick.

All the blame I’ve seen so far is directed at the LGB Alliance.

F*cking hell. That is a pretty much a new low.
Tootsweets23 · 04/05/2021 19:22

I'm sure someone else has made this point but aside from the racist use of BME, it is so odd that this is phrased in this way. Why drop the A (as in Asian), considering that the largest by far immigrant community in Scotland is Asian. So so odd.

Course it is. Fortunately, LBG alliance are made of sterner stuff.

@CatherinaJTV

The point is that the advert was not legal and discriminatory against men as well .

toffeebutterpopcorn · 04/05/2021 20:09

The ad was legal. What’s illegal about it?

Anyone got a link for this?

Jacopo · 04/05/2021 20:11

Umm, not sure if this has been mentioned already but if this is a registered charity which has broken the law in the way the interview/job advert process for appointing the Chief Executive has been handled -shouldn’t they be reported to OSCR?

Perfect, thanks Jacopo.

Here we are everyone:

www.oscr.org.uk/contact-oscr/charity-concern-form/

Charity number for ERCC is 0006208

You can fill the form in anonymously.

Jacopo · 04/05/2021 20:34

Great, thanks @Leafstamp. So have I got this right: OSCR should be told that 1) the job was reserved to females but a transgender woman without a Gender Recognition cert got the job. And that she herself had previously stated online that she doesn’t have the GRC. And self-certification is not yet legal. And 2) other male-bodied people have potentially been disadvantaged by being discouraged from applying because of the wording of the ad.

Yep, that’s my understanding.
AfternoonToffee · 04/05/2021 20:43

It's amazing that so many people saying that this is absolutely fine and berating other posters have such little grasp on the actual laws around both the Equality Act and the definition of rape.

littlbrowndog · 04/05/2021 20:48

Good link up above

Rhannion · 04/05/2021 20:51

@Huggybear16

So is there something we can do about this?

If anyone has any sound ideas about who to write to with our concerns, I’m right there. Sadly I’m not in Scotland, and I’ll hold my hands up to not knowing all that much about the charitable sector.

I'm a woman in Scotland and would also like some ideas as to what more I can do. I have already written to Edinburgh Rape Crisis to express my disbelief/upset/anger (I don't even know how best to describe how I feel about this - flattened?).

Voting is on Thursday. I absolutely will not support the SNP. I've never voted Tory before, should I start now? I feel like I can't vote for any of these people. I'm lost and confused with this, but I will vote. Does anyone have any advice for me on this?

I know how you feel, I’m political homeless too , there are lots of us here in Scotland, I don’t have a bloody clue how to vote on Thursday. As an aside it brightened the dull and shitty day here to see the suffragette colours on our lovely bear in Princes Street gardens.

I saw that wording on Twitter from a pro-TRA account. I was assuming the 'attacking of crisis centres' was something rather different.
ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 04/05/2021 21:07

I could be wrong, but I believe that in the case the exception used meant that they needed to employ a woman irrespective of GRC.

"Do GCs not take a minute to think how un-feminist and harmful it is to attack a crisis cent—ok never mind. Of course they don’t. So much for “protecting women and girls”."

"This is the hundredth time they've attacked a rape crisis center. They've actually been part of the reason a few have closed. They've yet to realize they are the baddies."

"You'd think that the gender criticult would realise that when they're attacking a rape crisis centre they miiight just be in the wrong."

Fandangoes · 04/05/2021 21:11

I really do t understand how anyone can find this acceptable. I have friends who are intelligent women and vocally staunch feminists and yet they support snp and believe TWAW and I just cannot get my head around how they reconcile all of that. I don’t want to ask because I value their friendships and can accept that we have different views. But can anyone that also feels like that explain how they can be a strong vocal supporter of women’s rights and yet think this is ok, also why you dont think the snp are bad for women

Fandangoes · 04/05/2021 21:12

I’m not being goady, I’m genuinely interested in the other side of the viewpoint so I can try and u sweat and other peoples points of view

Female socialisation. I'd seen a trans woman I knew have some unkind comments directed at them on a night out (in retrospect, less than woman often have to put up with ) and my sense of empathy kicked into gear. But then I had no idea what I was actually giving up.
littlbrowndog · 04/05/2021 21:24

What’s a staunch feminist then ?

Such an incredibly telling quote from Paisley. When gender critical feminists 'attack' a rape crisis centre, it's by stating openly and mostly online that the new CEO is unsuitable and that vulnerable women and girls won't be served. When trans activists attack a rape crisis centre, they nail dead rats to the door, write 'kill terfs' on the windows, tear down their flyers, disrupt their fundraisers and get government funding removed. I'm sure if Paisley thinks it's unfeminist to do the first, he'll be absolutely horrified when he finds out about the second. I'll be waiting with bated breath.
OldTurtleNewShell · 04/05/2021 21:29

For anyone unsure about what I'm referencing, it's the constant and unrelenting attacks on Vancouver Rape Relief.

“GCs insisting the ERCC apply the same-sex exception it invoked is absolutely outrageous. Definitely worse than my allies who nailed rats to the door of Vancouver Rape Relief before successfully lobbying to remove public funding. Clearly that was kindness in action. There is one side here that is definitely evil, and it ain’t the Pied Pipers, amirite?”
