I struggled to even come up with a title for this thread as I am so enraged I know I will get deleted and even banned if I say what I really think.

When you turn off replies you may as well say ‘we know our decision is questionable/wrong/idiotic but we don’t want to be told thanks’

Same difference.

Emperor’s new CEO.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 04/05/2021 16:42

Fingers in ears lalalalala. I love to see an organisation that is supposedly there to help people at their lowest ebb turn off communications and refuse to engage (unless I assume you are saying ‘you are so wonderful’).

Where are they funded from? They need to be scrapped and start again with grown ups.

Leafstamp · 04/05/2021 16:48

@littlbrowndog

ERC took down first tweet

Then put up same tweet but turned off replies

Still included BAME women in the tweet

Jeez how racist they are

Their behaviour is disgusting.

I don't see how they will get away with it. I predict that MW will not take up/continue in the post.

colouringindoors · 04/05/2021 16:48

Utteely, utterly disgusted by this appointment. Fucking depressing too.

I see Edinburgh Rape crisis have now deleted yesterday's tweet announcing this, which had hundreds of critical replies. Today they've tweeted the same story and switched off replies.

You know what to do.

LostToucan · 04/05/2021 16:48

Apparently the first Tweet wasn’t garnering enough favourable replies.

WarriorN · 04/05/2021 16:50

RT reaches a wider audience, bit of an own goal!

Tibtom · 04/05/2021 16:56

I predict that MW will not take up/continue in the post.

I think you underestimate them. Any objections will be considered 'transphobia' and what bigots raped and abused women are.

NiceGerbil · 04/05/2021 17:01

Taking it down because of a huge negative reaction, then putting it up same with no effort to even address the racism points is just so transparent. Why do orgs do this? They think no one has archived? That people have no memories? That people are stupid?

Or is it a calculated fuck you?

WarriorN · 04/05/2021 17:13

Clearly doesn't see racism.

I hadn't seen the tweet when it was up previously; now all I see are RTs!

Leafstamp · 04/05/2021 17:24

Maybe, I can see why you say that and maybe I'm naive.

I'm hoping they are bombarded with correspondence and have no choice but to think about about what they've done (i.e break the law).

Leafstamp · 04/05/2021 17:26

On that note, if anyone knows any men in Edinburgh who would have liked to have applied for the job and would be happy to write to them to ask why they have been discriminated against. I would love to see their response.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 04/05/2021 17:49

I should get my brother to do that. He is a bit... well someone who won’t ever let anything go and can get quite obsessed. He is a massive ‘fairplay’ person too and hates people who break rules.

They wouldn’t know what hit them.

Mollyollydolly · 04/05/2021 18:24

I wish this could be challenged in the courts. I hope legal minds brighter than mine are working on it. It is so wrong. Just feel I should do something and feel helpless.

Leafstamp · 04/05/2021 18:26

This is of interest:

FWS tweeting the Funder of the role asking for answers.

My sentiments exactly. I am optimistic, I don’t think this is going to be let go unchallenged.
CatherinaJTV · 04/05/2021 18:32

@ODFOx

Oh come on!

Mridul Wadhwa has been working within the women's shelter system for years. She is eminently experienced and completely suitable for the post.

This isn't a case of trans tokenism causing disadvantage for women. This is someone with all the correct qualifications and experience getting a job they can do well.

this!

It'll be interesting to see what response they get to that. This job was advertised as for women only, and self-id isn't law in the UK so a male person shouldn't have got the role.
Leafstamp · 04/05/2021 18:38

@CatherinaJTV @ODFOx

If we pretend for a minute that what you say is true, then ERC have still messed up twice fold:

  1. The job advert specified women only. MW is not a woman (in the eyes of the law, which is what matters here)
  1. By appointing a male person, they have discriminated against any other men who may who have wished to apply.

The narrative will be that they were victims of a horrific pile-on by transphobes. They - ERCC - are bravely going ahead with their appointment but they have to keep their twitter account safe for their followers by deleting all the hateful bigotry in the replies to the first tweet.

I suggest people on Twitter report it for racism.

And yet this someone didn’t meet the stated conditions required to apply for the post?

And it wasn’t any secret that this someone didn’t meet those conditions?

I’m glad I’m not on that board of trustees.

This is exactly what is happening.

You can guess who is getting the blame.

LostToucan · 04/05/2021 18:55

The quote Tweets are, let’s just say, not very supportive of Mridul.

If it's just a case of appointing the best person for the job, why was it advertised as only for women?

GCs are apparently attacking rape crisis centres. Which is rather getting the wrong end of the stick.
