Discussions about porn

Have noticed a few things and just want to put them up for thought.

Discussion of porn affecting women and girls often gets shouted down. Why do some women in particular get so protective over it?

Discussion of porn affecting women and girls gets hijacked by sex workers saying it’s their right to do it - I don’t disagree that people can do what they want with their bodies but why can we not talk about the effect that porn has on other women and girls? I think they are two separate issues. How do we talk about both in these kinds of discussions and separate the two issues in a coherent and respectful way?

Ideas and thoughts?

To me most porn seems to dehumanise woman Recepiticals. Of course there is light porn And I’m not against porn but this freely available more aggressive form is kind of being normalised as it’s so accessible to all ages.

Twintub · 21/03/2021 23:27

*to recepitcals

NiceGerbil · 21/03/2021 23:43

Christ don't Google it!

'But if you can understand why some women watch it then surely you can understand that they might protest when told they shouldn't be allowed to? '

The threads which draw women to defend porn very strongly are not usually saying should we ban it.

They are usually on relationships board and have OPs whose partners like it, what other women's views are. Often they say they don't like it (for a variety of reasons).

Nothing to do with banning it.

If you look at relationships board you will find plenty.

TheRabbitOfCaerbannog · 21/03/2021 23:46

I know what fisting is, thanks. I was just taken aback by your graphic post. I now feel the need to defend myself as not a prude etc but I feel that exemplifies the problem here. I think there's a genuine disconnect between what most women might want from sexual relationships and what men increasingly want, thanks to porn.

NiceGerbil · 21/03/2021 23:47

TwinTub true - holes.

But I don't think that's it. As a PP pointed out it's words like destroyed, ruined, X type of 'girl' 'takes' xyz.

It's not just about objectifying it's about. Pushing boundaries. Pain.

That's something else.

We already talked about women's fantasies upthread I don't think it's relevant to rehash it unless there are fresh points.

NiceGerbil · 21/03/2021 23:48

Don't defend yourself for reacting to mention of fisting!

Of course you aren't a prude.

Twintub · 21/03/2021 23:53

Yes I said that too the language is destructive. Sorry for the graphic ref felt it was relevant to describe the porn I don’t agree with. I don’t think anyone is a prude I hate that word it implies there is something wrong about not agreeing with certain sexual stuff which is nonsense.

NiceGerbil · 22/03/2021 00:11

I said some graphic things upthread as well.

It's difficult because a lot of people esp women and with both esp ones over a certain age have no idea what the standard mainstream content is. But equally wouldn't want to upset anyone etc is

NiceGerbil · 22/03/2021 00:18

With younger people it's really difficult.

Both boys and girls are generally pretty in interested in finding out about this topic when they hit a certain age. They are curious. They want info. They hear things mentioned etc and want to find out what it is. That's normal.

Experimentation when you're young is also normal. Both boys and girls like to try whatever.

The issue has always been that in het sex the female stuff is much more potentially painful, risky. Pregnancy, injury. And the possibility of force.

While boys have always had a list of stuff to try. And are prone to going on and on and on. Coaxing, coercion, pleading, threats etc.

In my day the checklist was less extreme and boys also saw the girl enjoying it as a badge of honour.

Now the list is very long and includes extreme stuff and female sexual pleasure seems to be pretty much off the table.

The push back against stuff like child settings active on everything unless you call and get them switched off was telling. Such a trivial thing that would help a bit but apparently it was an attack on freedom and whatnot. Depressing.

NiceGerbil · 22/03/2021 00:20

TwinTub those words have always been around though.

Frigid was the one when I was at school.

It's really depressing when you hear women saying that stuff.

Opera is full of murder, violence, rape.

The Bible (OT) is pretty grim.

Ordinary people used to go and watch public executions for entertainment.

I'm not sure what any of this has to do with the topic at hand.

QuentinWinters · 22/03/2021 07:26

Oh. Bye Johanna Grin

Twintub · 22/03/2021 07:54

Oh yes frigid another rubbish words. People are allowed to have their own opinions rather than being called something like that

Twintub · 22/03/2021 07:57

The thing is back in the day you had to go looking for extreme stuff and now you can see it in 2 secs and it’s not a niche it’s just here . I don’t Think it creates rapists Etc per se Although they generally start there. But it does feed into the whole woman are lesser thing. As I said before men have an amazing capacity to compartmentalise and not see someone’s daughter mother sister .

Twintub · 22/03/2021 07:59

Mean to say with sex work and clubs etc there are men and woman who like different forms of sex and that’s fine amongst consenting adults and at least at these places you don’t get as 12 year old peeking through the key hole

Twintub · 22/03/2021 08:07

Why was Joanna banned

TheVanguardSix · 22/03/2021 10:39

Oh. Bye Johanna

Exactly! Bye Felicia... don't forget to take your agenda with you.

TheVanguardSix · 22/03/2021 10:42

Why was Joanna banned

Because Joanna was a man, baby. A man with a plan. That's my thinking, anyway.

NiceGerbil · 22/03/2021 10:45

Because Johanna's arguments on a thread about VAWG slowly descended into their true thoughts that were not all that great...
