There's a live stream on twitter. I'm not sure the police are really handling it very well, but I appreciate that it's easy for me to say that.

TheRabbitOfCaerbannog · 13/03/2021 19:33

It's suggests they might have been better off working with organisers beforehand to plan their approach.

Is shocking that the police want it stopped claiming covid laws when they could have helped organise it. I am so glad kate middleton attended to pay her respects and Buckingham palace made a statement saying she too used to feel unsafe walking london streets alone at night. Even the future queen of england is onboard with it.

ThrowingAShellstrop · 13/03/2021 19:39

Good. I’m glad.

Totally agree.
lifeturnsonadime · 13/03/2021 19:40

I hope the Police are not heavy handed. Women are already angry.

Rabbit i agree they could have worked with the organisers to have a peaceful protest and encouraged unity.

TheRabbitOfCaerbannog · 13/03/2021 19:41

It seems like things were peaceful before the intervention of the police...

I don’t understand why they just didn’t work with the organisers & let a peaceful vigil happen

CurbsideProphet · 13/03/2021 19:42

@lifeturnsonadime I've seen a live stream that showed a woman being manhandled to the floor. I'm really disappointed that the police did not plan and prepare how to be a calming presence.

pitterpatterrain · 13/03/2021 19:43

Was there earlier - was noisy but peaceful, the police were just stood around quietly

Seems it was perfectly peaceful to start with

IrenetheQuaint · 13/03/2021 19:44

I just went to a smaller vigil close to where I live. It was lovely, very peaceful and distanced, couple of police officers standing nearby not doing anything.

gardenbird48 · 13/03/2021 19:46

the organiser of the fundraiser on the back of this 'doesn't engage with transphobes' (on Twitter) - those women that are asking which charities the money will be going to and suggesting that it would be good to speak to some women about which charities would be good for women.

They are looking to raise £320k for unspecified charities.

fioreun · 13/03/2021 19:46

Unbelievable. What are the Police thinking?

Footage on these threads. Met police manhandling women at a vigil for a female victim of male violence. It's making my blood run cold:

Police seriously fucked this up. Oops 😬

gardenbird48 · 13/03/2021 19:50

this comment was in response to someone pointing out that male violence is the problem so that is an interesting acknowledgement and dismissal in the same tweet.

That is outrageous.

I was pissed off about Cressida Dicks' announcement too.

How tone deaf can they be. It was ONE OF THEIRS.

Stand back and support the grieving girls and women FFS. Angry

FedNlanders · 13/03/2021 19:51

Sickening.

Sickening. What the hell is going on with the police, can they not see what monumental damage they are doing to their relationship with the public??
