[quote fioreun]Unbelievable. What are the Police thinking?

Shocking.

I hope the police get their arses handed to them by the press in tomorrow’s papers.

Male officers using their physicality against peaceful female protestors holding a vigil for a young woman who was (allegedly - just to avoid deletion) murdered by one of their officers.

It beggars belief.

ThisIsSimplyBeyond · 13/03/2021 19:56

They are kettling them ffs Shock

“Male officers using their physicality against peaceful female protestors holding a vigil for a young woman who was (allegedly - just to avoid deletion) murdered by one of their officers.”

This needs repeating over and over again!

Notallowedtogo · 13/03/2021 19:57

Not sure what to think of it. Started out as a peaceful female protest. Now angry shouting and screaming. Big groups of male photographers wanting views for their YouTube channels. They chase all the angry violent bits as gives more hits to their channel, so this is all we are seeing. Lots of men there now with hoods up.

TheRabbitOfCaerbannog · 13/03/2021 19:59

This is a huge organisational cock-up by the Met Police. They needed to read the mood and assist in making a peaceful vigil possible, protecting the women attending, not kettling them ffs. It's left the situation wide open to be hijacked by other interest groups.

Totally Rabbit!! The smart thing to do was to have only female police officers there and remain at a distance unless it kicked off

Instead video & photos of male officers manhandling women when one of their own is charged with murder 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

It will end up like George Floyd/BLM with various groups/individuals using it for their own agendas.

A friend was at the Liverpool vigil to simply lay flowers, have a brief moment of silence and leave. Ended up being pushed back by officers while stood metre away from anyone with her head bowed and eyes closed. They weren't warning anyone or asking them to leave, just shoving them.

Another friend is at Clapham Common (stood very far away from others) and even the most peaceful people there are being dragged away. It started being very peaceful, with a variety of people standing in the bandstand reading poetry, names of women who've been victims of male violence and some chanting. All peaceful. Then police intervened and are using violence to force women to be quiet. Very large male police presence, most of whom are using intimidation tactics (leaning over those sat down, shouting, getting in people's faces) to scare women away.

I am angry and devastated. Can't comprehend how her poor family must feel. I feel so hopeless.

SplendidSuns1000 · 13/03/2021 20:12

I should add it's true that only the angry women who are shouting at police or using force against them are being photographed/filmed and shared online. There is a huge population of the crowd who are peacefully paying respect, the others are now having to fight back against police.

Dobbyafreeelf · 13/03/2021 20:12

I was watching the suns live feed and it does appear that the police were backing off a bit. Live feed suddenly stopped

Police have badly misjudged and mishandled

We know the law holds women in contempt. Now we have the pictures.

Nottingham. Can the Notts police be given responsibility for London? Like failing prisons and schools?

traintrain · 13/03/2021 20:18

I wish I lived closer and I'd have been there.

What are the Met thinking? It was one of them. They should have judged the mood and let it happen, encouraged it to be socially distanced.

The image of the line of officers facing the sea of candles just makes me want to weep.

puppychaos · 13/03/2021 20:19

The police have no shame. None whatsoever. Those videos are disgusting.

ThrowingAShellstrop · 13/03/2021 20:19

I’m speechless.

Apart from I’m praying that tomorrow’s papers show the truth tomorrow. They won’t but I have to keep hope.

As a previous poster said I hope the eyes of the world's media are on Clapham tonight and tomorrow morning.

There are no angry or violent women in the video fioreun linked to above, in fact the women are standing/sitting perfectly still and one looks understandably incredibly uncomfortable at the large male officer leaning over her with his hand on her arm - and he appears to be bellowing at her, his face is really close to hers.

This is a PR disaster for the police. Their visible contempt for women is utterly appalling.

TheChampagneGalop · 13/03/2021 20:23
