Unbelievable. What are the Police thinking?

twitter.com/liamyoung/status/1370819072368246786?s=19
The police moved the women out of the way just before the man reached them. They could obviously see him running up to them.

willibald · 13/03/2021 20:27

Police stood by this time last week when thousands of drunk, mostly male, football hooligans with smoke flares descended on George Square in Glasgow, hardly a mask in sight, and wrecked it.

Dobbyafreeelf · 13/03/2021 20:28

@traintrain

As a previous poster said I hope the eyes of the world's media are on Clapham tonight and tomorrow morning.
The trouble is how the media will and are spinning it. It has started already online. Sadly I fear that this is going to be spun to once again blame women. 😡 I'm so angry tonight.
lynsey91 · 13/03/2021 20:30

They should not be having any vigil. What happened to covid rules? Also how many are wearing masks. I see that Kate wasn't

fioreun · 13/03/2021 20:31

Oh silly female me with my silly female brain. I hadn't realised the Police were protecting the women. By violently removing them. Are Police banned from violently removing men? I hadn't realised. That explains Glasgow too.

They weren't protecting the women. You can say they shouldn't have held a vigil, but the police knew that there was enough strength of feeling that women would turn up. They have facilitated football fans, anti-mask/Covid conspiracy protestors & the BLM protests. They didn't want to listen to women and they made a short term decision that trying to deter women would reduce the amount of attention on the fact that one of their own officers is a suspect. It isn't remotely clear that protests can't take place. As Adam Wagner points out in this useful thread & they had numerous opportunities to work with the organisers to plan ahead...

Violently removing them? They pulled the women out of the way and the very next second a man appeared having charged up to the railing. They could see him coming out of shot. A policeman leans over to him and the others block him.

Come again?

Kate was outdoors, breathing fresh air. Good common sense.

BLM protests were permitted.

TheRabbitOfCaerbannog · 13/03/2021 20:44

Thoughts on what?

What the two male police officers are doing to the woman in the photo?

I literally can't believe what I'm seeing. Why did the Met not just allow this peaceful vigil to take place? I hope this is an utter PR disaster for them. I feel so so sad to tonight.

whataballbag · 13/03/2021 20:55

Absolutely spectacular fuck up from met police.

Well it's outside so she didn't need to. I also think it was probably deliberate, so she would be easily noticed. She was sending a message of solidarity by attending.

WarriorN · 13/03/2021 21:12

The woman with the red hair was one of the last few sitting on the edge of the band stand. She wasn't even saying anything. Arrested (? I assume) as the police took it over.

The organiser confirms that funds raised will be used for anyone who identifies as a woman

The organiser refused to answer FiLiA's question about whether funds will go to single sex spaces as she "doesn't talk to transphobes".

Lesserspottedmama · 13/03/2021 21:20

The pictures are shocking beyond belief. All make police too. With nothing but contempt for the women.

poshme · 13/03/2021 21:20

Some of the people at the vigil were holding ACAB placards.
Was that really for sarah? Or people wanting to cause trouble.

PerfectPenquins · 13/03/2021 21:20

It started well, then the male agitators rook over and it became something else entirely. I saw so many men being aggressive (shocker) they could easily be heard shouting over the women there. It should have been women only. It was not appropriate for men to be there to center themselves with their violence. The funds are not going to sex based services as they refuse to exclude men. Sisters uncut and anti lockdown idiots there making themselves heard completely disrespecting the vigil. Heart breaking to see what happened, but I guess men just can't help being their aggressive, violent selves.
