twitch and 'womnx'

I'm so confused about all the circularity of this my mind is boggling.

I do not like the word Womnx. I like the word 'woman'.

Seems the trans community doesn't like it either and they have branded twitch transphobic.

@Liquorishtoffee

And yet when I (and others) complained about this word being used for an event a while back I was basically told to stop whining like a baby (I paraphrase).
It's almost as if women aren't listened to...
StealthPolarBear · 02/03/2021 16:48

Because women of colour aren't women??
I have nothing to say that isn't sweary.

SanFranBear · 02/03/2021 16:55

Just depressing - who cares what actual women think about the term, let's only speak to and about transwomen.

StanfordPines · 02/03/2021 17:03

Just read this and came to comment.

So who is womxn for then?

Is this one of those things like where we get told not to sing Baa Baa Black Sheep because it is offensive when no actual person who could be offended by it has complained?

Is this people being offended on behalf of someone and because that person is a white man they get listened to so places change what they do because they think it’s the right thing to do for no reason?

Also, the term is inclusive of black women? What the ever loving fuck? Who is thinking that black women are somehow other?

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 02/03/2021 17:08

@adventurealice

Womyn (which is also mentioned in the article) was once considered a progressive feminist term which removed the patriarchal "men" from the word. Now it's offensive. Can we have an annual guide to what is offensive or not please?
Annual guide ?

Think we need a daily one!

MaudTheInvincible · 02/03/2021 17:10

I've seen someone on here, who I assume is male from the way they position themselves in posts on prostitution and gender, describe how they wondered if black women could be as womanly as men who identify as trans because they had friends who didn't find black women attractive, but did find the men who identify as women attractive. This poster has also defined themselves "a fully paid up woke liberal leftie". Angry

It was always daft.

Womxn never made any sense. I'm not interested in arguments for or against inclusion or "trans people taking our name"- it simply didn't make any sense.

If you think "trans women are women" or "transwomen are women" or only "xx chromosome bearing women are women" the word "women" fits all of them.

The arguments between the 3 beliefs are irrelevant to "womxn" being daft and meaningless.

MrsBrunch · 02/03/2021 17:35

For fucks sake, they come up with the stupid term womxn in the first place and when women complained about it we were told 'get used to it, enjoy your erasure, etc.' and now it's fallen out of fashion with the TRAs it's gone. Just like that.

At least it's gone. One thing which we can agree on. Don't know whether to laugh or cry. What a mess.

BarbaraofKent · 02/03/2021 17:40

Ha ha, I saw this earlier and thought 'wokemate'! Serves them right.

Of course when actual women object to 'womxn' they are nasty bigots Hmm

BarbaraofKent · 02/03/2021 17:42

Wasn't 'womxn' for transwomen and black women (who obviously aren't proper women Hmm)

I know a few very 'woke' isntagrammers who are always falling over themselves to be kind and inclusive who use 'womxn'. Oh dear....

Mn753 · 02/03/2021 17:44

I look forward to the apology from UNwomen

MrsBrunch · 02/03/2021 17:46

This is almost ironic as that time when Owen Jones got all irate at sex segregation and suggested that transwomen have their own toilets and all the other women have to use different ones Grin Yes please, LOJ, that would be great.

Liquorishtoffee · 02/03/2021 17:48

Don’t hold your breath. They are woeful.
StanfordPines · 02/03/2021 18:17

One thing here, and this is true of so many sections of society, is the assumption by the wider community that they speak with one voice.

I’m sure there are some transwomen who are happy with the term. But because this section of the trans community shouted first they are listened to.

And this could be the same of any minority group.

Seventytwo · 02/03/2021 18:35

Another vote here for womXXn. Totally going to start using this.

Deliriumoftheendless · 02/03/2021 19:18

It’s outdated because the bigxts of last Thxrsday used it 😂

wheresmycrown · 02/03/2021 19:20

Wtf is twitch??

Liquorishtoffee · 02/03/2021 19:22

Some techy website isn’t it? Well known for their feminism...

Doyoumind · 02/03/2021 19:28

Absolutely typical for the article not to mention at any point that females don't want to be referred to as womxn either. But who the fuck cares about us? Angry

NotTerfNorCis · 02/03/2021 19:30

I saw womxn trending on Twitter yesterday. The amount of TRAs claiming that gender critical feminists invented 'womxn' to exclude trans people is startling. If you Google the definition of womxn it's clear it's meant to be trans inclusive. Here is Wikipedia:

"Womxn" is used, particularly by intersectional feminists, to avoid perceived sexism in the standard spelling, which contains and derives from the word man, and to explicitly include or foreground transgender women and nonbinary people.

NotTerfNorCis · 02/03/2021 19:33

Here are Black Lives Matter supporting womxn. Hardly an anti-genderist movement.

PaleBlueMoonlight · 02/03/2021 19:33

Could you archive that page NotTerf?

ForestDad · 02/03/2021 19:37

Yea what a load of crap. Can see why women on here find this stuff annoying. I tried to read around this and found that people think you can identify as non-binary and a man or woman at the same time which I really don't understand. Surely they are mutually exclusive?
FD
Binary male
Pronouns him/that idiot.

NotTerfNorCis · 02/03/2021 19:53

Not sure how to do that, PaleBlueMoonlight. You mean Wikipedia? It will be there forever in the history.

EsmesRedPetticoat · 02/03/2021 20:50

Ahaha I read this on the BBC app just now and came to start a thread on it but I see I am very late to the party! Honestly, it would be funny if it wasn’t so frustrating.
