Statement

First and foremost, I hope that my legal action will bring me justice. I also hope that it can stop Stonewall from policing free speech via its Diversity Champions scheme.

Stonewall have signed up many companies, public bodies, voluntary sector organisations and government departments to their manifesto and their value system regarding trans rights. What is called Stonewall Law. Without most of the public realising it, a large swathe of British employers have signed up to the Stonewall value system. It has done this by trying to silence and vilify women like me who have genuine concerns about how its approach to trans inclusivity conflicts with the protections, safety and dignity of women, girls, children and LGB people.

We cannot achieve a just outcome for everyone while Stonewall are free to threaten women like me with the loss of our livelihoods and reputations. Stonewall must be held to account. I intend to do just that.

Yes, the name was Stonewall Lobby Group Limited until fairly recently.

Until 2004 when they became a charity.

Does SW operate / trade / exist under many different names? E.g. a trading arm, an activist arm?

BaronessWrongCrowd · 12/02/2021 16:56

@MichelleofzeResistance

This is the thing - something has gone horribly wrong in the last few years.

Historically it very often happens.

A desire to ensure people weren't starving and shelterless and funding and groups set up to create buildings and programmes for this ended up being the appalling misery and abuse of workhouses.

A desire to rescue abandoned children from starving city deaths or deaths climbing chimneys and a foundation set up to send them to countryside with clean streets and air and the opportunity to learn a trade - became confiscating kids and shipping them off in droves to be abused and worse in Canada and Australia.

Well intentioned ideas grabbed on to by well meaning overenthusiastic people on personal crusades, power that enabled personal prejudices and agendas, and a whole lot of mission creep.

Plus ca change.

The saying the road to hell is paved with hood intentions seems rather apt here.
BaronessWrongCrowd · 12/02/2021 16:57

Good not hood

MarciaDidia · 12/02/2021 17:00

Re lobbying, I believe, though am not an expert, that it would be usual for a charity to have a separate entity that does lobbying, trading and other activities that charities are not permitted to do. So SW carrying out lobbying is likely to be ok if done correctly.

Tibtom · 12/02/2021 17:08

Marcia I suspect you are correct but operating as well know 'Doing Good' charity and having as associated company 'Doing Good Ltd' with similar/identical branding lobbying doesn't seem to follow the spirit of the law...

nauticant · 12/02/2021 17:11

Government funders? And what about criminal charges?

Since the High Court has today found no wrongdoing at Kids Company, blamed the government for not giving it the money it needed as it headed towards collapse, and has praised the trustees, it's a fair bet that a pet of a government, used by a government to bolster its credentials, tends not to be held to account.

Allison's crowdfunder website no longer opening for me Hmm

Seems fine to me. Perhaps a browser issue?

Stonewall had achieved pretty much everything it set out to do

This is true, there is literally no homophobia at all in society since gay marriage was introduced. How dare LGBT supportive organisations still exist.

jj1968 · 12/02/2021 17:33

It's perfectly okay for charities to be involved in political activity btw, it just must not be the sole reason for their existence. There's some info on the rules here: assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/354727/Charities_politics_and_campaigning_MP_factsheet_6.pdf

You’d have more of leg stand on here jj68 if Stonewall were actually doing anything to protect gay men and lesbians. If you are an LGBT charity, changing the wording of your own website to refer to “same gender” attraction when the law and reality is same sex is a pretty good indicator that upholding the rights of homosexuals is no longer Stonewall’s focus or interest.
Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/02/2021 17:36

It shouldn’t ever be held to be self evident that they’re doing good just by existing. This is a problem endemic across the charitable sector, and Stonewall are only unusual in this instance that they’re going on the attack against anyone they perceive as not supporting them.

This.

What is your problem with LGB Alliance then jj?
Impatiens · 12/02/2021 17:50

Shame about the derailment - nothing good will come out of it.

Biscuitsanddoombar · 12/02/2021 17:52

Indeed impatiens

I bet there’s some interesting emails and WhatsApp messages between the stonewall trustees tonight....

BuntingEllacott · 12/02/2021 17:53

Yes, indeed, it would be lovely if homophobia was gone. Maybe Stonewall could focus some attention to that end, rather than trying to get it re-embedded in society with coercive cotton ceiling shite and focusing on heterosexual male rights while ignoring lesbians.

No? Oh well, not fit for purpose, are they, remit ignored, down the history hole they go, good riddance.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/02/2021 17:53

Since the High Court has today found no wrongdoing at Kids Company,

Really? Wasn't aware this was going on today.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/02/2021 17:54

No? Oh well, not fit for purpose, are they, remit ignored, down the history hole they go, good riddance.

Quite.

jj1968 · 12/02/2021 17:57

You’d have more of leg stand on here jj68 if Stonewall were actually doing anything to protect gay men and lesbians.

But they do, they run a helpline, employment schemes, produce anti-bullying material and provide legal advice on LGB rights to employers. They do loads of stuff.

I do wonder what an LGB kid who is relieved homophobic bullying is now taken a bit more seriously by their school after they became Stonewall Champions and is grateful for the intervention would make of some of the comments here. Or an LGB kid encouraged to take up sport due to the Rainbow Laces campaign.

Impatiens · 12/02/2021 17:57

Must be fascinating Biscuits!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/02/2021 17:59

I think BuntingEllacott answered this. It's not the issue. If they are not fit for purpose, they are going to be pulled up on it.

yourhairiswinterfire · 12/02/2021 17:59

Is Allison investigating why Crowd Justice took her crowd funder down, does anyone know?

It would be interesting to hear their reason for doing that...
