The TRAs are jubilant because a person who is neither GC nor a feminist yet is constantly associated with these things has put up a lovely little video (since deleted) where she implores men who carry guns to start using women’s toilets to protect women from transwomen. I don’t even know where to start.

I know I will be shouted down because this person can do nothing wrong in so many peoples eyes, no matter what horrible stuff she comes out with. But this stuff basically pisses on all the hard work done to try to convince politicians and policy makers that this is a legitimate and important cause that is not based on hatred or violence.

I've no idea who you are referring to, what exactly they said or why this person is somehow supposed to be connected to feminists.

Okay, it’s Posie Parker who called on ‘men who carry’ (ie carry guns) to start using women’s toilets to protect women. It’s so frustrating because this is such a setback. It plays right into the hands of people who say GC feminists are hateful bigots who just want to harm trans people.

Her point, I think, was that if men asked say, the teacher where the girls toilet was, if they were there for say a parents evening or something, when they needed the loo, it would point out how ridiculous it was that this is what the teacher is agreeing to. Self ID. in the same way that a boy in school does, whilst the students were there in the daytime, she was making a point about how ridiculous it is abs how it's going to get worse since Biden's Exec order and how we need more involved to help, inc men/fathers.

The gun thing I didn't get, I think she was joking, but it wasn't about men protecting us from trans women so much as Dads sticking up for their daughter's rights/privacy/dignity at school.

That's how I took it anyway.

I suspect she's taken it down because it's kicked off on Twatter and her message has been misunderstood or misinterpreted and she wants to correct herself in her next video (she has done similar before).

It's funny, TRAs threaten feminists daily with direct death and rape threats, yet this is rarely called out? PP makes one joke in poor taste and we all need to denounce her?

This sounds like a case of someone mistaking the tone, or not understanding hyperbole or sarcasm. Which seems to be a common problem these days.

I seriously doubt she thinks random men with guns hanging out in bathrooms to protect women is really a workable solution.

This seems to be a transcript, posted by a supporter on twitter, but I only saw the video clip of the first bit.

I didn't see the video. I did see that an apparently edited version had been shared by CursedE. Which says it all to me really.

I don't have any great love for Posie, I think she's done some great stuff and some really stupid stuff in the past. She gets her point across but she is a little too extreme in some of her views for me.

But I have even less love for this particular trans person and would be wary of taking anything they post at face value.

I saw the video. Yes, she said that. In another video she said problematic things about the attack at the US Capital as well. With all due respect, she needs professional guidance.

1. Posie should consult with a PR/media professional. She's getting too big to make these mistakes. A simple run through of what her initial ideas are would have shot down the gun thing and would have alerted her to the in-depth facts of the Capital attack. This can be done immediately by any professional worth her salt.
2. I thought her comments on surrogacy were powerful, sensitive and very persuasive. If she sticks to this type of commentary, she can have positive influence on women's rights.
3. Whenever she wades into US politics/culture, it's obvious she could use some help. Guns here are no joke and we have out of control gun violence in this country. She also didn't understand that the FBI is charging attackers with insurrection and other crimes. This isn't a simple protest or activist stunt. It was a crime against our government. They threaten to hang Vice President Pence. His family was with him.

I watched the clip and 'men who carry' was the expression used. Have to say that went right over my head at the time, as the point was more like, 'come on men get in the women's toilets & say you're women now', like doing the Man Friday stunt backwards...which doesn't really work in my mind but the gist was about showing up TRA ideology not 'protecting' women in bathrooms.

If that transcript in that photo is accurate, to me it reads that men may think they’re doing something useful and protective by carrying a gun, but it would be more useful to take an actual active approach to protecting women’s and girls’ spaces rather than carrying a gun for show and thinking you’re the big man. It’s not saying men who ‘carry’ should start using toilets, it’s saying men who ‘carry’ should realise they’re actually just standing by idle while all this is happening.

I watched Posie's video. It was an unscripted Livestream, they are always a bit of a rant (or ramble) , I love them. But don't shoot the messenger, as she's the only one of us who is actually brave enough to put her head above the parapet!
Yes it was a bit (well, very) rambling, but her point was, to show how absurd the law was, NOT NOT to defend women at their toiletry.
The major part of that particular video was to show her supporters the latest feminist stickers and t-shirts. The 'let's show how absurd the law is' rant was a quick throw-away few words at the end.
I'd be really sad if all her hard work was to be undermined by a few unscripted sentences.

It is a problem I fear for the future that will have a negative impact on the freedom of women and girls and set the relationship between men and women back over a hundred years. I can well imagine that decent men will accompany women “in their care” into high risk spaces in order to protect their female relatives and friends. It is like something out of a Jane Austen novel but that is where we will likely be without single sex safe spaces for for women.

I do enjoy Posie but, if true, I find the gun comments ill judged. However as a pp said it could have been sarcasm. Guns are no joke imo and I wish for Americans the kind of gun control that we have in the UK. If you fear that anyone might have a gun I can understand why you might feel the need to own one to protect yourself and your family. I seem to remember I read somewhere that that logic is flawed but I can get why people might think that way.

As I say, it was just a few rambling sentences at the end of her livestream. She was clearly in a real hurry that day, she said so clearly at the beginning of the video, she had started the livestream early as she had to go and do stuff with her kids.

It does sound like a mad thing to say, and things don't always translate well when said sarcastically or off the cuff. But without an actual video to look at, I will reserve judgement until there's more information / clarification. I certainly wouldn't rely on carefully edited snippets from trans activists.

The TRAs archived the video and its been shared via a 3rd party link gofile.io/d/k53HhC because they thought it would be removed. They were also calling for her to be investigated by the police and Prevent for extremeism and inciting violence.
