The TRAs are jubilant because a person who is neither GC nor a feminist yet is constantly associated with these things has put up a lovely little video (since deleted) where she implores men who carry guns to start using women’s toilets to protect women from transwomen. I don’t even know where to start.

I know I will be shouted down because this person can do nothing wrong in so many peoples eyes, no matter what horrible stuff she comes out with. But this stuff basically pisses on all the hard work done to try to convince politicians and policy makers that this is a legitimate and important cause that is not based on hatred or violence.

Meh, why bother apologising? She shouldn’t have to apologise because some people were determined to deliberately misinterpret her words. We all know if Posie said “I love kittens!” someone would call her puppyphobic. What’s she supposed to say?

“Dear people that hate me and look to discredit me with every word, I’m sorry I said something you were able to twist into something it wasn’t.” She doesn’t owe people like CursedE anything.

She knows what she meant and others have read it differently. She wasn’t encouraging violence, she was asking men to think about how they’re actually protecting women. She’s probably more pissed off with herself for giving the muppets some ammunition, we know how manipulative they are. Just chalk it up, don’t slip up next time I’d say.

Thank you Old Crone, you really filled out the argument I took it to be. It definitely wasn't about men using their guns to protect women in toilets or to intimidate/kill the BIGGEST victims of everything! The twisting that goes on over this shit is phenomenal.

Posie shoots from the hip. When she hits the target, it's glorious and when she misfires you sometimes have to run for cover.

These kinds of 'Look what she's done now' threads often bring up new information so I'm going to wait and see. But if she's taken it down, then that does suggest she realises she's fucked up and if that turns out to be the case, I don't see what's wrong with an apology.

I'm not sure whether professional advice is the answer - I think there are enough media trained clones out there. I'm not her mum and I just take the rough with the smooth.

Posie on the other had has shone light on the trans ideology and has brought it to the public domain. She's also refering to the States where people are more likely to carry. And it's in reference to Biden removing women's rights in favour of transwomen, and what the potential outcome of that might be.

Yeah. I am not sure she needs professional help in getting her message across. She could have the help of someone to produce (if that is the word I am looking for) the show so she can focus (ie getting the tech set up and working, adjusting while she is talking, changing screens when she needs to)

In saying that, I enjoy her videos regardless so it probably would not make much of a difference unless it was picking up on an occasional issue like this where someone could have suggested simply clarifying what she said while it was fresh. So that the video didn’t have to come down and she didn’t have to deal with the distraction this will cause.

Then again, it is more potential content and she can make it work for her.

It did not come across as sarcastic. I have no problem recognisikh sarcasm. The comment came across as pandering to conservative american men.

Okay, it’s Posie Parker who called on ‘men who carry’ (ie carry guns) to start using women’s toilets to protect women. It’s so frustrating because this is such a setback. It plays right into the hands of people who say GC feminists are hateful bigots who just want to harm trans people.

That video's been deleted, which is good. I must have skipped through though or wasn't listening properly as I didn't hear her saying specifically 'men who carry'. She wants to make a scene, to prove a point, but in this case the method of doing that was a very bad idea.

I saw the video. Yes, she said that. In another video she said problematic things about the attack at the US Capital as well. With all due respect, she needs professional guidance.

1. Posie should consult with a PR/media professional. She's getting too big to make these mistakes. A simple run through of what her initial ideas are would have shot down the gun thing and would have alerted her to the in-depth facts of the Capital attack. This can be done immediately by any professional worth her salt.
2. I thought her comments on surrogacy were powerful, sensitive and very persuasive. If she sticks to this type of commentary, she can have positive influence on women's rights.
3. Whenever she wades into US politics/culture, it's obvious she could use some help. Guns here are no joke and we have out of control gun violence in this country. She also didn't understand that the FBI is charging attackers with insurrection and other crimes. This isn't a simple protest or activist stunt. It was a crime against our government. They threaten to hang Vice President Pence. His family was with him.

It's worse than I thought then. I thought just asking men to do that bad enough!

Every time Posie does something like this she provides the TRAs with ammunition (the metaphorical kind). A lot of women in the gender-critical feminism space are working really hard to win the arguments by being reasonable and evidence-based and sensible (this is how we won the Keira Bell case, remember?) and then PP wades in and ruins it. It makes it so easy for the TRAs to portray feminists as being in thrall to the American Christian right.

Keira Bell has been inspired by Posie, and has stuck up for her though.

With mainstream trans rights activism we're dealing with an assault on reality, language, free speech, safeguarding and science as much as we are on women and feminism. I'd be an idiot if I thought I could never join with people from different political backgrounds. This issue is too big and too urgent.

I was correct about who she was aiming her comments at. At the end of the piece, commenting on the US, she says "and men come on...if you can wear a MAGA hat, which some of you do who follow this page, you can damn well go into a women's toilet to make a point and save the women in your community"
