Haven't actually read it yet:

Igneococcus - I just linked to your OP in the AIBU thread about Janice’s article. If it times out based on clicks, a new token may be required in here later.

HumphreyCobblers · 23/01/2021 08:13

Thanks - I thought maybe I had a glitch. Looking forward to reading those too.

HumphreyCobblers · 23/01/2021 08:14

It is quite far down on the comments section PinkyParrot

Pinky - The article is in the comments section of the Times. You can make a sharetoken by clicking on the envelope at the top of the article. It creates a draft email with the html link in it. You can then C&P the link.

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 23/01/2021 08:21

Does anyone have any links on if there’s even the beginning of a backlash in the US? It looks very bleak over there at the moment :(

PinkyParrot · 23/01/2021 08:23

Ok, thanks, found it - it's quite prominent in the Comments section.

I don't think here in the Uk we should take on US problems - they are a very different country (many conflicting religious views/ old fashioned opinions of women's roles) and we should concentrate on here where we have a small chance of improving things.
If we ignored the US things would seem more promising equality wise.

Brilliant article. Thanks for sharing, OP.

Franke · 23/01/2021 08:37

@ouchmyfeet still no comments. Interestingly I usually find the comments below articles in the Times that deal specifically with this subject quite heartening. People generally seem to get it. Comments below other subjects in the Times? Yeah, depressing.

FannyCann · 23/01/2021 08:38

Comments will be heavily moderated, I think. There won't be any until the moderators start working. At some point last night there were supposedly 12 people writing comments at the same time.

Interesting. Comments were piling in on the surrogacy story, mostly from cheerleaders congratulating the author but a few from surrogacy skeptics. I posted one with a link that hasn't gone up yet. Maybe it will later, after the moderators take a look.

Igneococcus · 23/01/2021 08:42

Comments with active links always go into moderation limbo, even in unmoderated comments section fanny as far as I can tell. A lot of regular commentators have started to write separate comments for their own comment and then reply to themselves with a comment with the link.

Dazzle US events are being discussed here:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4142285-Biden-has-completely-obliterated-woman-s-sex-based-protections-as-he-said-he-would-do

I largely agree with Pinky, though, too much going on here to spend time on US issues. Different contexts, very different legal system, etc. If only they'd apply the same approach to the UK ...

Skatastic · 23/01/2021 09:01

This article is amazing.

My daughter has decided (since around August last year) that she is now a he. Every discussion ends in an argument and I get described as a TERF for raising any of the amazing points described in this article.

I really, really despair.

Malahaha · 23/01/2021 09:01

There's one comment showing now, just a thank you to Janice. Maybe anything more than that won't get through for a while.

Malahaha · 23/01/2021 09:05

...abracadabra, now that comment too has disappeared!

thankyou for sharing OP

SkeeterP · 23/01/2021 09:35

That’s it. I’m subscribing to the Times because of Janice Turner’s consistently brilliant reporting on this. Deserves to be rewarded.

So if I email this article to my woke daughter in the hope she will read it by using the icon can recipients of the email open the full article? I'm on my phone and it doesn't have an envelope icon, just the usual forward one on the top right.

boatyardblues · 23/01/2021 09:40

I assume the forward button sends the link to the paywalled article, so she won’t be able to read it even if she wants to Fanny.

FannyCann · 23/01/2021 09:48

Thanks boatyard
I'll have to make the effort of revving up the old laptop and see if it works that way. (:

Remaker · 23/01/2021 09:50

Wow what an amazing article. I just shared some of the highlights with my DH. He was gobsmacked. What makes me sad is I couldn’t share this on any social media in Australia as I would be abused and trolled endlessly.

I came here from a forum in Australia which has banned any discussion of gender critical feminism. Yet a recent post celebrating the movement to they/them pronouns by the new US government is being celebrated in an echo chamber of mandated opinion.

Note to readers: if you have an Irish address there's a huge discount. I think to £6 or something.
Ohdeariedear · 23/01/2021 09:57

And if you’re a student it’s something like £2 a month.
