Haven't actually read it yet:

So clearly explained. I hope it reaches teen females.

Datun · 22/01/2021 22:11

She never wasted a single word. Quite remarkable writer.

Datun · 22/01/2021 22:13

@HecatesCats

So good and she used such a great quote from Johann Lamont. We should be able to have this debate in the open, this is the consequence this is the cost...

“If members do not agree that women survivors of violence and rape should be able to ask for a woman examiner,” said Labour MSP Johann Lamont, “they should say so, and we can have that debate.”

Yes. This is the bottom line.

Ask the questions. It instantly shows up the issue.

quixote9 · 22/01/2021 22:15

"We can have that debate." ... Talk about a No Debate issue!

Anyway, main point, Turner is brilliant.

ChattyLion · 22/01/2021 22:29

It is a profound shame that President Biden did not also seek to enshrine both characteristics in US law rather than simply conflate gender identity with sex.

Absolutely. And this avoidable harm will take years to unpick. Thank you Janice for highlighting the damage caused by this conflation so eloquently. Legalising gender self ID in the US with no debate is like something from a nightmare.

Great article

Jetatyeovilaerodrome · 22/01/2021 22:35

What a fucking brilliant article - it has it all!

Thank you Janice.

Franke · 22/01/2021 22:38

Strange that no comments are appearing below the article.

Brilliant article.

This evening I am feeling sad for a beautiful young woman I know whose body and health have been ravaged by her treatment for cervical cancer. She no longer has cancer, she no longer has a cervix.
So she is not a cervix haver. Is she no longer a woman? What an insult to a beautiful soul who doesn't deserve the suffering she is going through.

How dare anyone erase the language and respect that women are entitled to.

OvaHere · 22/01/2021 22:58

Fanny Sad

persistentwoman · 22/01/2021 23:17

Powerful and passionate. Thank you Janice.

Lushers · 22/01/2021 23:33

Awesome piece of writing! I completely agree Janice Turner Thanks thank you for sharing this!

@Franke

Strange that no comments are appearing below the article.
I know, I have commented but nothing is showing up. I think my comment is pending review.

The comments on time articles are generally deeply depressing so I try not to engage but I couldn't read that without saying thank you to the author, it was just brilliant.

GAHgamel · 23/01/2021 00:42

My favourite line is: "Gender-neutral speech doesn’t make biology go away: it just removes the analytical tools to understand and address it."

JulesJules · 23/01/2021 01:21

Loved this piece so much. Put everything I have been thinking into words - thank you Janice Flowers

SingingSands · 23/01/2021 02:02

Wonderful writing from Janice. I'd like to see this being shared "in the cold light of day". It needs as much publicity as possible.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 23/01/2021 02:41

Christ she’s just so talented Star

Men are still men: women are now merely persons. I would dispute the now SadAngry

EdgeOfACoin · 23/01/2021 07:44

Janice might be someone who deserves a thank you card for continuing to write about these issues.

HumphreyCobblers · 23/01/2021 07:59

My edition is still not showing any comments on the article. Do they moderate them more heavily on this topic? Does anyone else have comments?

I have read it three times now. Superb.

Igneococcus · 23/01/2021 08:05

Comments will be heavily moderated, I think. There won't be any until the moderators start working. At some point last night there were supposedly 12 people writing comments at the same time.

If anybody wants a share token to share with friends, send me a pm. I'm going to my lab for a bit later but I'm happy to supply share tokens if anyone wants one while I'm still here at the computer, I think the tokens expire after some time or usage.

The comments on contentious articles are often held back until the moderators get inn at 9am and start releasing them. I’m anticipating several hundred comments to have been released by mid-morning. Even to the uninitiated, it’s a corking read.

Igneococcus · 23/01/2021 08:11

I agree boaty this will be a busy comment section. I wish they would people just let get on with it, it just interupts the flow of the discussion so much.

I subscribe to the Times online and can't see this - - I'm sure it's there but to have to search for this stuff means many people are not going to see it. I have found this before with articles.
It isn't under the Saturday Review.
I'll now do a search for Janice Turner - no still don't see it.

Bowednotbroken · 23/01/2021 08:13

I read this with tears in my eyes - want to thrust it under the noses of all the people who have dismissed me as a T*rf or a doomsayer, or even just a fusspot (including my own son and son-in-law!), to say THIS! This is why I'm concerned - bloody read it!! Well done Janice and thank you.

PinkyParrot · 23/01/2021 08:13

Can you tell me where you found it @Igneococcus?
