Haven't actually read it yet:

Meanwhile The Guardian has an article about sport in the US that describes male bodied people as ‘ transgender female athletes’ (I think ... it’s becoming increasingly difficult to know what The Guardian is talking about), and girls as ‘ non-transgender girls’ so that’s girls then.

Well done Janice Turner. I need to read a sane voice every now and then.

HermioneWeasley · 22/01/2021 20:08

She’s such an excellent writer

ArabellaScott · 22/01/2021 20:13

Fantastic article, thanks for the share token, and thank you Janice.

HecatesCats · 22/01/2021 20:14

So good and she used such a great quote from Johann Lamont. We should be able to have this debate in the open, this is the consequence this is the cost...

“If members do not agree that women survivors of violence and rape should be able to ask for a woman examiner,” said Labour MSP Johann Lamont, “they should say so, and we can have that debate.”

fatblackcatspaw · 22/01/2021 20:17

excellent article

MichelleofzeResistance · 22/01/2021 20:18

Excellent article, she covers it all.

And yes, Johann Lamont nails it. Often it's a case of hiding the real debate behind a lot of emotive rhetoric. The bones need to be pulled out into plain sight and discussed. There's very good reason why those pushing this political position are afraid to do that; they do not have the courage to admit to the reality of their views, nor to face others and defend them openly.

Which should really be all the clue their conscience needs to give them.

Time40 · 22/01/2021 20:29

Wow, that's a seriously good article. Thanks for sharing, OP.

malloo · 22/01/2021 20:41

Fantastic article, thank you Janice, and The Times. She's covered so many important points and not a word wasted.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 22/01/2021 20:46

Amazing

SunsetSenora · 22/01/2021 20:48

Amazing - thanks for the share. The point about mens health was mind blowing - maybe there needs to be more demands that man referring language be changed in this way. It is so disheartening to see this happening.

Winesalot · 22/01/2021 20:51

It shows up all the dehumanizing language used for the word ‘woman’. And the hypocrisy where man is left as is.

Of course, it will be hand waved away. People will deny that it is causing harm, that it is wildly sexist. Because they are kind and women complaining are meeeennnn.

Shedbuilder · 22/01/2021 20:51

Janice is going deeper and deeper, isn't she? Not just pointing out what's going on but taking the analysis further — into language and the way that language shapes thought and what can and can't be discussed. Great article. She really is up there with the best journalists I can think of. Her clarity of thought and economy of expression is second to none.

BlackForestCake · 22/01/2021 20:51

Nice quote from James Baldwin. I'd like to see some blue-haired students call HIM a t*rf. (if they even know who he was)

Toseland · 22/01/2021 20:54

The bloody Guardian is reporting this in it’s US Sports section.
Thank you Janice Flowers

Binglebong · 22/01/2021 20:59

Great as always.

MoltenLasagne · 22/01/2021 20:59

Absolutely incredible article. She joins every dot, I can't think of a single stone she left unturned.

HecatesCats · 22/01/2021 21:01

The bones need to be pulled out into plain sight and discussed. There's very good reason why those pushing this political position are afraid to do that; they do not have the courage to admit to the reality of their views, nor to face others and defend them openly.

And precisely why they have operated by stealth. Their world view will not stand up to scrutiny in the years to come.

AbsintheFriends · 22/01/2021 21:06

This is the article to bookmark for sharing with my woke daughters, when they're ready. This eloquently encompasses everything I have tried to express in all our heated, emotionally fraught conversations over the last 3 years.

Thank you Janice.

MaudTheInvincible · 22/01/2021 21:06

Yeah I agree Hecate this time will come back to haunt them

AnjouPear · 22/01/2021 21:07

What a fantastic article.

"A backlash can only build."

God I hope she's right. It feels a bit bleak at the moment.

MiladyBerserko · 22/01/2021 21:10

Isn't the US Guardian part funded by the Pritzker Group? And the Gates Foundation?

OvaHere · 22/01/2021 21:16

Very good article from Janice.

Hopeishere52 · 22/01/2021 21:48

Excellent article

Melroses · 22/01/2021 21:53

Brilliant article.

MaudTheInvincible · 22/01/2021 21:56

@MiladyBerserko

Isn't the US Guardian part funded by the Pritzker Group? And the Gates Foundation?
I keep hearing the same names in relation to funding
