www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/presidential-actions/2021/01/20/executive-order-preventing-and-combating-discrimination-on-basis-of-gender-identity-or-sexual-orientation/

“Children should be able to learn without worrying about whether they will be denied access to the restroom, the locker room, or school sports."

Biden just passed all the worst parts of the Equality Act by executive order (so without going through any legislation at all). It is limited in effect to agencies (I think) but those agencies include the Bureau of Prisons, Dept of Housing and Urban Development, Dept of Education, Dept of Labor etc

This will of course be unchallenged, even welcomed by the media. It will likely have a knock on effect around the world.

And I am so angry. So so angry. He was never the ‘least worst option’ he is the absolute worst option.

Polling shows this is the most popular thing Biden has done so far with 83% of people in support. With optics like that I doubt he's too upset abpout upsetting a fringe movement on the other side of the world.

(Worth remembering that many/most states had laws protecting trans inclusion already. Many Americans know what the outcome of this will be because they've been living it for years, as we have in the UK. Pretty sure women still exist both in London and New York.)

JaimieLeeCurtains · 24/01/2021 19:57

That poll was a blunt tool question about workplace discrimination and included gay people.

Ask about natal males in women's sports, however, taking women's scholarships ... different ballgame.

I think you'll find that if asked if they're in favour of discrimination, most people will say 'No'.

While I accept that the preface references the Executive Order, weren't there very different results in the UK between general questions about the rights of 'transwomen' when it was explicitly stated that no surgery was required?

Has this Wall Street Journal article, by Abigail Shrier, been posted yet (haven't read the whole thread.)

Ah. New York. Where there was a rule reserving political places for women, which was dismantled by 'non-binary' Emilia Decaudin. Here's a picture of Emilia looking very excited about their achievement.

So women may exist, but looks like they're being pushed out of positions of responsibility. thevelvetchronicle.com/ny-democrats-quietly-dismantle-1-male-1-female-rule/

zzizzer · 24/01/2021 20:13

"Pretty sure women still exist". Gosh are you using a definition which doesn't include transwomen jj? Bit transphobic of you.

zzizzer · 24/01/2021 20:15

And crikey, "prohibiting workplace discrimination" only got 83%! That is shit.

jj1968 · 24/01/2021 20:15

Where there was a rule reserving political places for women, which was dismantled by 'non-binary' Emilia Decaudin.

They were elected to that role. Funny how people who support trans rights keep winning elections over there.

OvaHere · 24/01/2021 20:17

Yes it's strange how male people keep getting whatever they want regardless of the cost to female people. It's almost like that's been happening forever.

JaimieLeeCurtains · 24/01/2021 20:21

Men do often win elections, which is why places are sometimes reserved for women, in an attempt to tackle the issue of over-representation of natal males and under-representation of natal females.

jj1968 · 24/01/2021 20:40

@JaimieLeeCurtains

Decaudin took the role of a man in that election, not a woman. Had they not been standing they would have had to be replaced by a (non trans) man.

But still, it's not really the complete erasure of women is it? A non-binary person winning an election to a minor local position. Needs hyping up a bit. Problem is when none of the terrible predictions happen then all this outrage is going to look like the overblown moral panic it is.

NotBadConsidering · 24/01/2021 20:46

Simple question jj, yes or no:

Do you think it’s fair on the girls in Connecticut that they have had to race against and lose to two biological males?

Daca · 24/01/2021 20:46

Ah, opinion polls, such a reliable tool for manufacturing consent. It’s a shame politicians, especially liberals, have become so dependent on them. Nothing good ever comes of outsourcing your morality.

Americans are fundamentally a conservative people, and I don’t think many of them truly believe that a male person with male genitalia is in any meaningful sense a woman. They will wake up ...

PotholeParadies · 24/01/2021 20:51

Decaudin took the role of a man in that election, not a woman. Had they not been standing they would have had to be replaced by a (non trans) man.

No they didn't. They took the women's place. If Decaudin was expanding the bandwidth of being a man in politics, there wouldn't be a problem.

thevelvetchronicle.com/exclusive-decaudin-preps-for-election-recount-after-unofficially-taking-2-female-seats-new-details-uncovered/

Emilia Decaudin, a self-identified “lesbian woman,” who ran for “Female State Committee Member,” as well as “Female District Leader,” in Queens, is preemptively asking followers to help pay for the associated costs of a potential recount. An unprecedented number of mail-in votes have not been counted. Electronic election night results currently, “unofficially,” show Decaudin, a newcomer to Queens, has taken the “Female State Committee Member” 37th AD seat, from Queens native, Corinnes Haynes-Wood, as well as the “Female District Leader” 37A seat, from Queens native, Deirdre A. Feerick.

A non-binary person winning an election to a minor local position.

Oh, look, Decaudin wasn't planning to stop there.

While Decaudin was already able to take these seats due to “self-identification,” also known as “self-ID,” laws in NY State, Decaudin is further seeking to remove sex-based language from ‘one man, one woman’ rules (language that guarantees females an equal seat at the table), fromallposition levels across NY State—A change Decaudin was already able to quietly push throughwithintheNY State Democratic Party, in October of 2019 (see our breaking storyhere).

jj yes, at this point, no one is left in any doubt at all that you loathe female humans and come here to tell them how much you don't care about their feelings, voices, lived experience, identity, or anything else, and celebrate to the nth degree anything that puts them in their place.

Got it. Message received. Really. What do you want women to say to you in reply? What is the joy and satisfaction you get out of coming here and telling women how much you don't care about them? What need are we meeting for you?

PoleToPole · 24/01/2021 20:58

Delurking for a bit, I agree, SqueakyCarrots, your posts are excellent and very informative, thank you. I hope your pain lessens or resolves soon. You are spot on with this too...

The rich women(in their own right) or wives of the men who might matter won’t need to come forward, because they can escape this for now.

I will say though that this has all caused a huge stir over here, and not a positive one, both in my profession (surgeon) and in my social circles.
There is a lot of resistance to it, and although it doesn´t affect the wealthy as directly in an immediate sense, these are the people who fund a lot of the scholarships, grants, benevolence funds etc, usually in a loved ones memory. There is a lot of anger behind the scenes that these funds might not end up going where they were intended.

PoleToPole · 24/01/2021 21:01

Of course, there are the trendy, woke sorts who love that their money is being diverted down a different path, but they are definitely in the minority, regardless of what the lies, damn lies and statistics tell you.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/01/2021 21:02

I think when trans people are repeatedly being slurred and lied about as they often are on here then providing some balance is a good thing. And as a former reasonably regular poster I object to the way mumsnet has been turned into a no-go site for trans parents or supportive parents of trans kids and as such I think the transphobia on here should be challenged.
Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/01/2021 21:09

And I think misogyny should always be challenged. So there we go.
