www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/presidential-actions/2021/01/20/executive-order-preventing-and-combating-discrimination-on-basis-of-gender-identity-or-sexual-orientation/

“Children should be able to learn without worrying about whether they will be denied access to the restroom, the locker room, or school sports."

Biden just passed all the worst parts of the Equality Act by executive order (so without going through any legislation at all). It is limited in effect to agencies (I think) but those agencies include the Bureau of Prisons, Dept of Housing and Urban Development, Dept of Education, Dept of Labor etc

This will of course be unchallenged, even welcomed by the media. It will likely have a knock on effect around the world.

And I am so angry. So so angry. He was never the ‘least worst option’ he is the absolute worst option.

Oh. I just realized Charley1984 thinks women who are fighting the conflicts of their rights belong to the far right. Because they are ‘anti-trans’.

So, rather than taking a balanced view and trying to understand where the conflicts exist, they just put every person who doesn’t fit into their purity spiral as not worth listening to. But well worth poking as we are hateful women. Got it. The pointy finger of shame is out again......

Floisme · 22/01/2021 10:45

Pissed off as I am, I've had to laugh that people who believe that women can have penises and men can get pregnant think we're the fantasists.

feelingquitehopeful · 22/01/2021 10:51

n the end nobody eat together or even spent much time together

This is an outcome I could most definitely live with !! Grin

'Quality' family time now has a similar reaction to 'going for a walk' in our home, we are so done with it all. In fact we are ALL looking forward to having much less quality family time in the near future!! Grin Glitterball

Sorry wrong thread Blush

Freespeecher · 22/01/2021 10:57

I wonder if it all boils down to Biden and pals wanting to throw a bone to the Woke that doesn't involve raising taxes or stirring the pot with other issues that are seen as even more contentious ('defund the police' anyone?).

I also imagine his team are triangulators like Clinton and Blair so (if they've even thought this far ahead) some women won't like it but what are they going to do? Vote for [insert Trump's successor here]?

Also helps that it looks like the Tokyo games will be cancelled so the results of their policies won't be displayed on a grand scale for a while yet.

RozWatching · 22/01/2021 10:58

It’s frustrating on this board that so many posters expect the trans issue to outweigh the many other serious problems facing women in America.

I haven't read the whole thread, trying to catch up now but if someone wants to give me a summary, I have questions:

Is there a reason to stay silent now that Biden is in office?
Are there any other immediate problems that must not be mentioned?
When would be a good time to point out the consequences of something he is proposing to do right now?

And the other thread in AIBU has left the building!

OldFolksTalkinBoutBackinMyDay2 · 22/01/2021 11:03

When there is a mass shooting in USA those arses always say:

"Now is not the time to talk about gun control"

So in that same spirit we must not critique the new president?

Fuck that...

As frustrating and horrifying as all this is, it does amuse Grin

I do miss Ric. But every hyperbolic reference to the fash or fascists I read it in young one Rics voice, never fails to amuse.

The one on the same subject as this one?
Only saw that this morning, seemed pretty tame, must have gone downhill since!

@NecessaryScene1

A couple of degrees off topic, but just saw this from a US journalist retweeted by Glenn Greenwald - in his case to highlight bizarre media sycophancy w.r.t the new regime, but note the other weird bit. What's wrong with this caste of Americans?

One of the simple enduring images of the day: Kamala Harris’s hair blowing in the wind as she took the oath. No one with longer hair (in other words: a woman) has ever taken the oath of office outside at the Capitol before, because she’s the first woman to ever do it

It's at least one of the simpler definitions I've heard, and I guess it is a spectrum.

A sad point is that instead of being able to celebrate (on a feminist board) that against all odds, a female is now Vice President of the United States, this has already neutered and invalidated the achievement.

It could have been a great day for women but instead now the VP is a cervix haver with long hair and the pronouns She/her who will inspire others who also wear makeup and pink clothes to reach for roles that traditionally go to people with short grey hair and dark suits and plain shoes. Excellent

MiladyBerserko · 22/01/2021 11:41

Thanks for that link bellinisurge. She is so on point and really funny too. Who is she?

"One of the simple enduring images of the day: Kamala Harris’s hair blowing in the wind as she took the oath"

At last, a person of hair is recognised!

NecessaryScene1 · 22/01/2021 11:58

She is so on point and really funny too. Who is she?

She's Karen Davis. She was great on Twitter for a couple of months at the end of last year before the inevitable banning.

Here she is as a guest on Graham Linehan, Helen Staniland and Arty Morty's The Mess We're In :

littlbrowndog · 22/01/2021 12:04

Karen is the best

So funny and so on point always

And the hair thing. Omg. Bonkers like all of this

Men getting pregnant women having penisis.

Boys running in girls races

Imagine someone said this woul£ be real 10 years ago 🤦‍♀️

MiladyBerserko · 22/01/2021 12:06

Thanks NecessaryScene1
I'm not going to get any work done today!

feelingquitehopeful · 22/01/2021 12:34
