Biden has completely obliterated woman’s sex based protections as he said he would do.

www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/presidential-actions/2021/01/20/executive-order-preventing-and-combating-discrimination-on-basis-of-gender-identity-or-sexual-orientation/

“Children should be able to learn without worrying about whether they will be denied access to the restroom, the locker room, or school sports."

Biden just passed all the worst parts of the Equality Act by executive order (so without going through any legislation at all). It is limited in effect to agencies (I think) but those agencies include the Bureau of Prisons, Dept of Housing and Urban Development, Dept of Education, Dept of Labor etc

This will of course be unchallenged, even welcomed by the media. It will likely have a knock on effect around the world.

And I am so angry. So so angry. He was never the ‘least worst option’ he is the absolute worst option.

Follows suit in what way?

Gender reassignment has been a protected characteristic here since 2010.

Yeah, the US is 10 years behind us.

Of course trans people should be protected against discrimination in employment, housing and education. Mad that that’s not the case already in the US.

MoleSmokes · 22/01/2021 03:55

A PP was wondering what could be done to protect women’s sex-based rights (given that this is the Mumsnet “Feminism Women’s Rights” Board):

”PRESIDENT BIDEN MOVES TO END FEMALE-ONLY SPORTS AND SERVICES ON HIS FIRST DAY IN OFFICE”

WoLF 21 Jan 2021

www.womensliberationfront.org/news/president-biden-executive-orders-day-1

Extracts

POTENTIAL CONSEQUENCES OF THIS ACTION

  • Female federal employees no longer have right to privacy, forced into compelled speech that “validates” men’s identities
  • Domestic violence shelters forced to house men with women
  • Women in federal incarceration forced to be housed with violent male offenders
  • Doctors forced to provide “affirmative care”
  • Title IX protections for women in schools revoked, girls’ sports eliminated
  • Women and girls not considered for “equity”

AN UNPRECEDENTED ATTACK ON WOMEN’S RIGHTS AND LIBERTY FOR EVERYBODY

The scope of this order is simply staggering, and has far-reaching implications. Non-governmental entities will immediately begin implementing policies to comply with the anticipated regulations, and even if the rules are successfully challenged, those policies will be difficult to overturn once adopted. Speech will be further chilled, in all arenas of public life. Attorneys, law firms, and bar associations will update their guidance on “pronouns” and similar matters, and women will continue to be hindered in legal battles to assert their rights.

Beyond the many practical concerns, both executive orders send a heartbreaking message to women and girls that their government does not view them as worthy of consideration and is not willing to recognize female people as a discrete class.

We see you. And we will not stand for this.

Join us in taking action by using this form to send a letter to President Biden and Vice President Harris demanding the repeal of this executive order

Federal agencies are required to accept public feedback on new regulations. The executive order has given them 100 days to implement these new policies, and we’ll be weighing in and creating new ways for you to take action and respond each step of the way.

Together, our voices matter.

If you’re going to quote Jean-Paul Sartre FALGSC it’s polite to acknowledge and attribute the quote.

Interesting (not really) choice of username...

Wiki -
FALGSC, short for Fully Automated Luxury Gay Space Communism, is a leftist transhumanist ideology focused on achieving a world in which automation has created a post-scarcity communist society where homosexuality is considered normal and is even encouraged, and space travel is commonplace. It is essentially Soctrans Socialist Transhumanism but with the added element of Gay LGBTQ rights being a primary goal. As a cyborg transhumanist ideology, it uses It/Its pronouns”

I am very, very disappointed about this. In other ways Biden has started well but why did he have to do this? I know it's not just up to him, no president is completely their own person. All I can hope now is that there is such an outcry that the whole thing will have to be re-thought and changed where necessary.

eaglejulesk · 22/01/2021 04:26

It’s frustrating on this board that so many posters expect the trans issue to outweigh the many other serious problems facing women in America.

Well said.

What sort of women's problems? Prostrate cancer rates? Premature ejaculation? Erectile dysfunction?

A couple of degrees off topic, but just saw this from a US journalist retweeted by Glenn Greenwald - in his case to highlight bizarre media sycophancy w.r.t the new regime, but note the other weird bit. What's wrong with this caste of Americans?

One of the simple enduring images of the day: Kamala Harris’s hair blowing in the wind as she took the oath. No one with longer hair (in other words: a woman) has ever taken the oath of office outside at the Capitol before, because she’s the first woman to ever do it

It's at least one of the simpler definitions I've heard, and I guess it is a spectrum.

EachandEveryone · 22/01/2021 06:24

Elton John has taken his Instagram post down. The one I commented on several times about this very thing. That’s disappointing as I will be forever wondering if anyone was on my side. I think he got a lot of stick from people telling him to keep his nose out of American politics.

Oh yes. Long hair = woman.

Anyone else recall all of those eighteenth century founding fathers with their short-back-and-sides? Confused

God I'm cringing at the overnight posts.

But then that's the level we're dealing with here.

Why are males insisting that the world pretend actual female people don't exist? So that male people can have what they want without boundary or interruption.

We know that men like this exist. We know that enabling anyone who says they are female to access female spaces will mean more of this sort of thing. You do not protect women and girls by making their spaces a free for all, you make it easier for people to do them harm. Bad faith activists arguing that any concern for the safety and dignity of girls is transphobic make a lot of noise, but they won't be able to prevent an increase in things like this happening (not because Transwomen are doing it, but because the President of the United States has sent a clear message that no one should be excluded from female spaces if it upsets THEM). This is about boundaries and our right to them...

"60 victims, most of them young girls, caught undressing on hidden camera in Tennessee gym

Police are investigating a camera hidden in a bathroom at a Tennessee gym that had recorded dozens of videos of underage girls.

A GoPro camera was found inside a bathroom and changing area at a Premier Athletics facility, which trains young cheerleaders, gymnasts and dancers, police in Franklin said Thursday. Videos of 60 females in various states of undress, most of whom were minors, were found on the camera."

I see someone has started a thread on this specific topic in AIBU.

The 'Biden Erases Women' twitter and the backlash was at least covered by this morning's Times. The Times on the whole are hugely supportive of Biden, so this was a pleasing development, that they didn't just gloss over it.

I am hoping the Times and others will offer a more deeper article over the weekend, exploring and informing the readers of the true meaning of this action, and the consequences it will have on women and girls.

Perhaps this is going to make the issue much more mainstream now, which needs to happen so we can have a proper debate and consultation, rather than backhanded legislation going through the back door with no discussion whatsoever with the sections of society this is most likely to impact.

I follow people I see as important democrat media voices like Joy Reid and Jake Tapper . They are NOT talking about it. I'd be surprised if they weren't mulling over in editorial meetings how to cover it.

One way to look at the problem of erasing women as a subset of humans is maybe to look at it in the way of race.

If we refer to everyone as just ‘people’ then people of colour are erased as a subset of humans.

Therefore there is no systemic racism, no police targeting black people, no white supremacy as we are all classed as ‘people.’ George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Elijah McClain and all the other people of colour who died at the hands of police weren’t targeted because they were black, because we’re all just ‘people.’

That’s one way to sort racism, right?

Except of course not, because it is ridiculous and insulting to all people of colour who have been persecuted because of who they are.

MiladyBerserko · 22/01/2021 08:25

That @Glinner vid was brilliant. Think I have a bit of a crush on Derrick J now. Lierre (didn't catch her surname) was also fantastic.

Well worth watching and good to see you are still active on this Graham

Exactly this. If you can't see sex, you can't see sexism. Some people did something to some other people.

Yawn- it’s a woman’s rights issue and why should this be secondary to any other issue?

Sit down and shut up stupid women? You make our point so well for us.

UppityPuppity · 22/01/2021 08:45

She does know what a woman is when she needs to make a useful political point.

mobile.twitter.com/KamalaHarris/status/1351888479370752002

She ‘stands on their shoulders’ - will women and girls whose rights are annihilated on day one want to stand on hers?

@MolyHolyGuacamole

Reading comments on threads like these are like wandering into a group of anti-vaxxers. It's like an alternate universe where everyone wears tinfoil hats.
I've noticed this too.

The denial of science, the insistence that we're all part of some far-right funded conspiracy theory and that we're only 3 people with a load of socks. It really is bonkers, isn't it?

And all because we think female people exist and should have sex-based rights!
