goodlawproject.org/update/advisory-group-transgender/

I know that there is another thread on JM but thought I would start a new one as this has just been released. First of all he has named the people on his advisory committee. They include Alex Sharpe, whom we know all about and about whom no more needs to be said.
Second, they are trying to force a change of policy from the Tavistock that they give PBs simply on parental consent to children who cannot consent to them. That is chilling and dangerous and puts an awful lot of power in the hands of adults with nobody to protect the child’s interests. JM has lost the plot.

This person was shown to be a founder of the PIE.

That looks to be incorrect. There is an unclear Scottish Daily Mail article:

www.pressreader.com/uk/scottish-daily-mail/20140621/281681137957838

which talks about Hein but focuses on Ian Dunn who was one of the founders of PIE and people have taken the fact about Dunn and applied it to Hein. This mistake is now widespread. Hein was a member of PIE (member 194) and presumably supported its goals.

One interesting thing is that when Peter Tatchell learned about Dunn, Tatchell publicly distanced himself:

twitter.com/PeterTatchell/status/1061286201053847552

2 years later the current activists when caught out won't even do this, instead they blame (typically women) and then block.

Collidascope · 29/12/2020 17:33

@JamieLeesCurtains

I missed that.

Is there an acceptable paraphrase?

Who knows...? They've not emailed me saying what the issue was with the original post.

I mentioned the fat acceptance movement and a few similarities it now has to mainstream trans activism, including an unorthodox approach to science, the treatment of those who leave the movement, and a philosophy that seems supportive while perhaps making those involved feel alienated from people outside the movement.
I also mentioned that I do believe fat people are treated worse in our society, just as I do believe genuine transphobia exists. I just think these movements as they exist now aren't the way to solve things.

ArabellaScott · 29/12/2020 20:22

Thanks, nauticant, informative.

PlantMam · 29/12/2020 20:39

I think we need to be renegotiating some of these banned terms with MNHQ - loads of stuff has gotten zapped lately that was never prohibited before and no warnings are being issued on threads.

ArabellaScott · 29/12/2020 20:44

Yes, good point, PlantMam. I'd like a bit more clarification on 'not in the spirit', too.

It's important and necessary to describe certain mechanisms - other people might disagree with said description, but then they could just chip in with reasons why and we could have a discussion/debate, surely?

Christ, I'm Yorkshire born, we like words that have meanings not word salads that we have to decipher. We also appreciate short sentences with said meaningful words.
Should the roolz be updated and sent to all so we can find a better way to express ourselves without tying it up in pretty bows and (to any newcomers) Incomphrehensible word salads.
Not blaming any posters, I know we have to do this word dance to prevent deletions and bans. But it's getting a bit passe now.

MoleSmokes · 30/12/2020 00:15

JamieLeesCurtains Here's a cryptic clue, the answer being a particular type of that-thing-what-must-not-be-mentioned:

Pants, cut by lesbian as expression of traditional millennial ideas, Prince Philip adored. (5,4)

ArabellaScott · 30/12/2020 09:42

Ooh, am working on the first part of that, Mole!

I thought a 'saw you last Tuesday' could also work.

RealityNotEssentialism · 30/12/2020 12:33

From Joly’s head of chambers.... I believe tomorrow is his last day there. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out will you.

As his parting gesture on his last day, JM has blocked his former head of chambers.

Cross-post!

RoyalCorgi · 30/12/2020 12:47

Tatchell's obituary of Ian Dunn ("a pioneer for lesbian and gay human rights") is still available, if anyone would like to read it:

It’s getting quite interesting!! Imagine being that childish. His head of chambers is probably thinking what the actual fuck🧐
FannyCann · 30/12/2020 13:45

His head of chambers is probably busy proof reading his letter of complaint to the Law Society. There'll be plenty of back story apart from what has been in the public sphere. And I've no idea what the law society social media policy is but publicly losing the plot (as pointed out by his head of chambers) isn't a good look.

Biscuitsanddoombar · 30/12/2020 13:54

Legal twitter is very much not amused with JM twitter.com/justicesummary/status/1344254110028193792?s=21

Yet still he crashes on cocooned in his self righteousness....

JM really can't stand anyone challenging him or his beliefs. Its really quite something to block your head/former head of Chambers.

JMs is destroying his own reputation and he will take The GLP with him.

LizzieSiddal · 30/12/2020 15:08

Agree, he reminds me of AH and the golf club slayer. They are very angry little people aren't they?

LizzieSiddal · 30/12/2020 15:11

This reply to the head of Chambers is rather alarming...

As you'll know this is just another in a series of very odd things that he's done over the last year or so. I imagine there are other less public ones, too. Not your responsibility anymore obviously, but I hope someone's keeping an eye.

I do worry about his wife and her kimono.

Is this Maugham saying he's going to be exclusively working on the Good Law Project? His missus seems to be a good earner so she should be able to keep him in kimonos.

nickymanchester · 01/01/2021 18:39

Is this Maugham saying he's going to be exclusively working on the Good Law Project?

It very much sounds like it:-

Few greater professional privileges than to live the life I choose. (Although odd to be leaving the Bar whilst a QC in my 40s.)

Someone asked if he would return, to which he replied:-

I imagine I could return - but difficult to rebuild a practice and I don't imagine I will return...

nauticant · 01/01/2021 18:57

It seems that it will be a phased thing but this gives the impression he's going to be making his living from the GLP:

twitter.com/JolyonMaugham/status/1344348968181002246

The financials of that organisation will be worth keeping an eye on.

What does Mrs Maugham do for a living?
nauticant · 01/01/2021 20:38

She moves frequently between senior roles in big companies/large organisations. Should be good money but I'd imagine the family outgoings are considerable and I am wondering what will make up the shortfall if JM isn't raking it in at the tax Bar.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/01/2021 21:11

The financials of that organisation will be worth keeping an eye on.

I'm sure a number of people will be doing so.

ghislaine · 01/01/2021 22:13

She’s in comms. I don’t know what that pays but given their kids are in state schools, and they bought the London house some time ago, I would think their outgoings aren’t that much. Plus there’s the profit coming in from selling the windmill.

This is all easily discoverable within a few quick google searches and a scroll through their Twitter accounts. They don’t seem that bothered about privacy/keeping a low profile.
