Well... that is good news!!! I will write to Primark and let them know they should follow suit. Considering my local one has not even yet put in floor to ceiling doors and still has gaping curtains yet let’s men sit on the stools directly in front of those curtains....

Thank you Baroness!!

TheFleegleHasLanded · 07/12/2020 21:52

I won’t be rushing back until they apologise to the hundreds of customers and shareholders whose complaints they completely ignored. Giving us back what we were always entitled to is hardly a hardship for them, but well done to Emma N for pursuing this.

GurlwiththeCurl · 07/12/2020 21:56

Yes, ai have just seen this - great news. Perhaps now the rest will follow and we can begin to surface from this sea of madness!

Al1langdownthecleghole · 07/12/2020 21:57

I’m hopeful there will be further reversals. I do have Pollyanna tendencies though.

It makes me think someone at least has realised who spends their money in M&S

Excellent work Baroness, thank you. Is there a statement/post from M&S OP?

Campervan69 · 07/12/2020 22:03

Lovely news. Perhaps all those pervy reviews of men dressing up in women's underwear on their website were finally noticed and they realised how easily the other policy could be abused.

happydappy2 · 07/12/2020 22:06

But but but...how many hundreds of women wrote before & were fobbed off? Huge congratulations & thanks to Emma but I’m not overly impressed by M & S

Winesalot · 07/12/2020 22:12

It does seem that the male fetish reviews are not a thing on their knickers. Once they took the sex of reviewer option away the buzz may have gone from posting.

Maybe, despite not answering the swathe of letters, they just quietly changed their website and now their fitting room policy. I hope so.

MichelleofzeResistance · 07/12/2020 22:12

Well done Baroness, thank you.

I do find it very sad that hundreds of women's voices mean nothing at all until one makes the same comments but has the right tags to her name. I have the rude reply from M&S which ended my interest in being a customer of theirs. And that's alongside having seen how they encourage and support male customers to enjoy sexual experiences with clothes and changing room floors in the hope of unwitting female customers becoming involved. After which, the whole place seems about as attractive to me as shopping in a septic tank.

Datun · 07/12/2020 22:13

The run up to Christmas is probably rather important for Marks & Spencer's at the moment. It's a start.

The baroness is awesome !

MichelleofzeResistance · 07/12/2020 22:16

I'd also add: M&S please define single sex, and how you intend to respond to customers who will expect and insist on changing in the space of their choice as opposed to respecting single sex spaces. Because practically, you're going to find it hard to put that genie back in the bottle.

OhLittleBoreOfWhabylon · 07/12/2020 22:24

The Baroness went straight to the Chairman, who was probably unaware of all the wokery bollox and has let his feelings be know Smile

Someone on the thread says that the awful fetish comments about underwear on the online site have also now gone.

And she's got Primark and West Mids police in her sights Grin

StillAHarpie · 07/12/2020 22:32

That’s good news, now they need to clean up the reviews and implement better moderation of comments.

PaleBlueMoonlight · 07/12/2020 22:34

I think I will write to M&S to thank them and I will start shopping there again. We need to support people and organisations that support women’s rights and, importantly, support them if they find their way back.

thirdfiddle · 07/12/2020 22:44

I don't understand, have they made a statement? I'll believe it when they do, and withstand the storm of wokery that follows.
Could really do with placing a clothing order...

OhHolyJesus · 07/12/2020 22:52

I had calls with them after having emails ignored just after Truss' statement and they were wobbling then. By then they had seen was it 3 or 4 bad quarterly finance reports.

I will email again for them to clarify. It isn't great that they ignored so many of their customers but made a rapid reversal in a policy they were initially so proud of but like many others I hope to see, I want to give them a chance to climb down from a bad decision.

Ooh look at me being kind! It may not last. I'll see what they say first. And I've done all my Christmas shopping now anyway so it's too late for them to have my money.

Worrysaboutalot · 07/12/2020 22:54

What about the two male bra fitters employed by M&S (mentioned in older mumsnet posts)Are they going to be reassigned to a different role and replacd with female bra fitters?

invisibleoldwoman · 07/12/2020 22:54

The Baroness is amazing but I’d like to see a clear statement from M&S before I feel confidence in their intentions. Suspect it is a ploy to get their xmas market back.

ByGrabtharsHammerWhatASavings · 07/12/2020 22:54

I'm reserving judgement until I find out what M&S have actually said, but great news if it's true.

PopperUppleton · 07/12/2020 22:55

Their lovely Prosecco is currently a third off so that's worth a toast 🥂

EyesOpening · 07/12/2020 23:03

Two male bra fitters??!! WTF!

I'm afraid I am very much in the camp of "watch what they do, dont listen to what they say".
Coatandhat · 07/12/2020 23:11

I've just had a look at the website Harpie and the fetish reviews I saw have been edited so that it's not obvious - unless you'd seen them before, you might be puzzled by the number of likes and dislikes.

Datun · 07/12/2020 23:17

Really? So they're happy for fetishists to post reviews, as long as they can de-perv them for their cardigan n slippers market?

I'll never understand it, to be honest. Just delete them. Just say no. I can't imagine that the fetish market is in the slightest bit financially significant.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 07/12/2020 23:25

Without an apology they can still get stuffed.
