Hurray! If it's confirmed I will def go back, and will let them know why. An apology too would be good, but it's still a big step forward to change the policy and let it be known that it's changed (hopefully the first of many!).

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 08/12/2020 12:18

I can’t. I am slow to piss off/anger but once I do I just can’t back off. I still remember the rage as a small child of being told that I had to forgive a bully just because they said ‘I take it back’ (because they were found out and made to apologies even though they didn’t mean it). No you can’t take it back, you can’t unsay it... nooooo.

M&S - was asked, pleaded, begged but were told to shut up and stop being such nasty people.

There were stories in the paper of people being turned away from a M&S particular sex changing room, and getting grovelling public apologies, promises of staff being ‘trained’ (and calls for their sacking) and please to come back and they will be treated well...

DaisiesandButtercups · 08/12/2020 12:31

If they are protecting the dignity, privacy, health and safety of their female customers again I will be happy to return.

How they are going to go about enforcing that protection I would love to know in order to be sure that they really will be taking it seriously.

GrandmaMazur · 08/12/2020 12:33

I wonder if they’ll bother letting the poor staff working on the shop floor know about the change (seeing as many of them seemed uninformed the last time)

MichelleofzeResistance · 08/12/2020 13:03

The bottom line will be how will they train their staff to deal with someone male such as Travis whatzit getting very angry.

What alternative provisions are being made for TW who do not want to change with male people who identify as men? TM who do not want to change with female people who identify as women? Women who just want to be left the fuck alone for five minutes to try on a skirt in peace

Poo McWee is clearly a troll. I think NaunetBastet is the one Tannins means? Still, a lone voice which is a turn in the tide.

I thought that poster was being tongue in cheek. Maybe they both are.
TirisfalPumpkin · 08/12/2020 21:09

Who's been on and bought all the big pants?

Out of stock in nearly every size :(

Wait

How did my daughter get on mumsnet

You should be in bed young lady!

VulvaPerson · 09/12/2020 02:20

@Tannins

And so it begins.....
This reply is spot on, and honestly probably the best way to respond to the ridiculous 'genital checks' people.

Why would they do that?! Are you suggesting transwomen won't respect the rules, and women's boundaries?

Tannins · 09/12/2020 03:49

@VulvaPerson - I agree, it’s not about genitals, it’s about understanding social conventions, rules and boundaries and respecting them because it is the right thing to do.

BitOfFun · 09/12/2020 03:59

PooMcWee appears to think that extensive physical checks would be necessary to ascertain biological sex. Newsflash: WE CAN TELL. And without anybody having to get undressed.

LurkingLotus · 09/12/2020 07:42

Looks like they haven't actually changed anything. Angry

EwwSprouts · 09/12/2020 08:22

So glad I'm disorganised enough that I haven't bought that jumper for DDad yet.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 09/12/2020 08:26

Oh well - good reminder for those who didn’t know or who had forgotten.

Gender my arse...

Winesalot · 09/12/2020 08:35

Well. That is going to back fire on them I think. There are many more people realizing just what is happening now in regards to changing rooms and single sex spaces compared to the start of the year.

This will mean more people will talk about their discomfort of this decision than at the start of the year. Good going M&S.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 09/12/2020 08:39

Oh dear. It's quite dismissive, isn't it?

SunsetBeetch · 09/12/2020 08:43

@Tannins

And so it begins.....
"Are you suggesting transwomen won't respect the rules, and women's boundaries?" is a bloody good response though.
CodenameVillanelle · 09/12/2020 08:46

I don't understand why Emma Nicholson posted that on Twitter and why everyone has responded as if this is fact. It's embarrassing. Clearly she jumped the gun and now we look stupid.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 09/12/2020 08:47

It is a good response and it's always worth making. No "genital checks" proposed. Turn it back to males being asked to have respect for women's privacy and dignity. If certain of them cannot, well that's quite telling.

LizziesTwin · 09/12/2020 08:54

My view is that if you’re the sort of man who ignores women’s feelings about privacy you have proved you really shouldn’t be allowed in women’s spaces.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 09/12/2020 08:55

But if the rules say you can be there then we haven’t a leg to stand on. I wonder why the Baroness thought they had reverted?

highame · 09/12/2020 08:56

This is very confusing. I thought self-id was off the table? If so any outlet having mixed sex changing could be challenged. I could understand if M & S said those with GRC but self-id is surely ditched?

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 09/12/2020 08:58

They say gender - not sex. 🙄

CodenameVillanelle · 09/12/2020 08:58

@highame

Self id by stealth has crept into everywhere. The equality act doesn't say that services have to offer single sex, only that they can. The issue is that so few companies are using the exemptions.
