Signing off with a final sentence - 'there are many, many stereotypes associated with our gender. But our SEX we share.'

Hopefully she will go on to speak more about this once she has exited woke central.

As I heard it LizzieSiddal they were selectively quoting JM leaving off the part of her statement about "our sex" that was the whole point of what she'd said. However, I don't know how we can get to Listen Again to continuity announcements. Maybe the same selective quoting will happen in a later bulletin, for example at midday.

Cuntysnark · 01/10/2020 11:11

I cannot wait for the floodgates to open. Meeting Dame Jenni is on my bucket list. Sadly I doubt I’m on hers!

NecessaryScene1 · 01/10/2020 11:11

Wokies are so dumb. They've just turned a minor story into a major one.

And it's not like we were even fishing for the dumb reaction, unlike Posie's posters.

EerilyDeleted · 01/10/2020 11:12

Sometimes if you listen to podcast versions you get the news or whatever at the start of a show, it might be on there. I didn't hear, I had turned the radio off by then.

nauticant · 01/10/2020 11:14

What I recall Toomie is that in the continuity announcement summarising the news headlines they reported the italicised part but left off the bolded part:

there are many, many stereotypes associated with our gender. But our SEX we share.

I might be recalling this incorrectly.

Toomie · 01/10/2020 11:16

Ah yes, I see Nauticant I think you're right.
You are obviously more alert than me this morning!

watertheroses · 01/10/2020 11:17

Yes you are correct. The last part of Jenny's closing statement was not quoted. The BBC news haven't quoted her statement at all.
Toomie · 01/10/2020 11:17

I'm actually going to try listen to it again later.
'There are many many stereotypes associated with our gender' is a very odd stand alone quote isn't it?!Grin

SquishySquirmy · 01/10/2020 11:19

It might be because they didn't know in advance that she would say the final part of that sentence?

AbsintheFriends · 01/10/2020 11:19

I like to think that right now Dame Jenni is eating her cake, chatting to her team and gathering her belongings together ready to leave. And on her way out, she's going to drop into the news room just in time for the midday bulletin, slap her actual quote on the desk in front of the news reader and glare at them over the top of her specs while they say it properly.

Thanks Nautical.

I've just heard it (I'm behind everyone else) and it wasn't the continuity announcer it was on the News Bulletin, so it may be repeated during the next News? Yes, they missed out the sex bit, so half quoted Jenni. Hmm I do think though, that Jenni wouldn't have been allowed to say what she did, on the BBC, even a few months ago.

Thesuzle · 01/10/2020 11:23

AbsinthFriends - you nailed it

LizzieSiddal · 01/10/2020 11:24

It might be because they didn't know in advance that she would say the final part of that sentence?

Very true. You can imagine the BBC Woke brigade, panicking as they heard it.

nauticant · 01/10/2020 11:24

Maybe it's just me but when you Listen Again you'll notice that in that part of her sign off she talks about different types of women and gender and stereotypes in a way that had my heart sinking and then the handful of words about "sex" was like a shot of adrenaline.

I'm not sure I've got exactly right what she said. It will be worth taking a proper transcription.

But do listen to the midday bulletin. They might repeat the selective quoting.

watertheroses · 01/10/2020 11:30

The BBC news website does not include Jenny's final quote.

AbsintheFriends · 01/10/2020 11:34

Listen again available now. www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m000mytx

The whole programme is well worth listening to, but the sign off can be heard at 40 minutes in.

And actually, it's even more powerful on a second listen, set against Joan Baez singing Diamonds and Rust.

Thank you Jenni Murray. Perfectly done.

👏

EBearhug · 01/10/2020 11:47

Jennifer has been there since my school days. I'm glad there was a break before my 11am work call.

EBearhug · 01/10/2020 12:04

They quoted it all on the midday R4 news.

SquishySquirmy · 01/10/2020 12:04

At the end of the news (just now) they played a quote of her final words, no paraphrasing.

nauticant · 01/10/2020 12:05

Haha! In the midday headlines they not only broadcast JM's words but did so in their entirety including "our sex".

LizzieSiddal · 01/10/2020 12:05

Fabulous!!

RozWatching · 01/10/2020 12:05

It's the full quote now. Superb, Jenni Flowers

JaJaDingDong · 01/10/2020 12:05

Go Jenni!

That's my girl/cervix haver!!
