Amnesty that are beholden to the pimp lobby? Nahhhhh.
ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 27/09/2020 10:55

I wrote to Amnesty including their board about their stance on this topic as I was a member and regular donor for 20+ years. The responses I got included men will attack women anyway and self ID hasn’t caused problems. I pointed out they were campaigning for single sex facilities for female refugees whilst undermining them in the UK. They just don’t care. So I cancelled my membership and switched my monthly donation to Women’s Aid.

DeaconBoo · 27/09/2020 11:00

I don't have a great number of regular charity direct debits but Amnesty was one, until a couple of years ago.

JamieLeeCurtains · 27/09/2020 11:04

I left Amnesty as well, when they went full pimp.

KnightsofColumbusThatHurt · 27/09/2020 11:06

Is that Amnesty as in 'look bitches, if men wanna rape you they're gonna do it anyway so there is no point in trying to keep them out of your safe spaces mmm'kay' Amnesty?

Amnesty 'prostitution is a human right', that Amnesty? The one that links to Mermaids & GIRES on its not at all patronising 'Gender ideology (sorry I mean identity) for beginners' page?

As well as the plain English that it is written, what I’m also impressed with is that instead of engaging in media fallouts and pissing contests on SM with activists involving nonsensical terms and logic, the government and DoE went ahead and did behind the scenes what is right.

What I’m surprised at is that the government managed to do this, with behind the scenes politics, because I thought that the Woke had a coke hold on positions of power in the civil service, and that the regulatory capture was beyond redemption.

BolloxtoGender · 27/09/2020 11:26

Only recently, I was on Twitter thinking, ‘gavin Williamson, are you doing anything about this ?’

FindTheTruth · 27/09/2020 11:54

DFE: “Examples of extreme political stances include, but are not limited to: a publicly stated desire to abolish or overthrow democracy, capitalism, or to end free and fair elections, opposition to the right of freedom of speech, freedom of association, freedom of assembly or freedom of religion and conscience.”

Amnesty: “It’s a step too far to ban materials which question an economic model such as capitalism".

Momentum: “The Tories think they can get away with banning those rights when it comes to speech that criticises the economic system"

Slippery word substitutions by Amnesty and Momentum. The DFE does not say 'criticise' or 'question'. The DFE says 'a publicly stated desire to abolish or overthrow'. Big difference.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 27/09/2020 11:58

Also it doesn’t say you can’t study those positions in a factual way. If you are a history / sociology/ economics teacher you can still teach communism/Marxism/socialism using materials that show both sides of the argument.

Something Amnesty and Momentum haven't grasped is that there's a difference between teaching about something and endorsing it.

Oh well that's fine then. Organisations which oppose capitalism are now banned from schools (but presumably not organsations which support capitalism), but it's okay you can read about the time when we used to permit children to hear left wing ideas.

jj1968 do a bit a yoga or better still, get yourself a glass of wine.

Read what it says.

It is tackling extremism not ideas and thought. The thought police aren't mentioned

JamieLeeCurtains · 27/09/2020 12:21

I don't see how teaching about the Soviet Union, say, can be banned - it's on the national curriculum. Ditto history of political parties, political ideologies, religious beliefs ...

I wonder if it's a XR thing.

And it considers opposition to capitalism to be extremist. Along with a whole load of other things such as endorsing civil disobedience.
JamieLeeCurtains · 27/09/2020 12:25

Tbh I think someone from the Home Office snuck the word 'capitalism' in there at the last minute, as it's the only place in the document where the syntax and meaning aren't perfectly crisp and clear.

persistentwoman · 27/09/2020 12:31

I think given the context of the other things now deemed extremist it is very much there deliberately, and its a hugely worrying development. Trade Unions or environmental groups banned from speaking in schools? What next, left wing teachers expunged for being extremists? If this kind of authoritarianism isn't challenged then it won't stop at this. It never does.
ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 27/09/2020 12:33

From the guidance
“ It is important when using external agencies to take particular care that the agency and any materials used are appropriate and in line with your school’s legal duties regarding political impartiality. Your local authority, governing body and headteacher must:

forbid the pursuit of partisan political activities by junior pupils
forbid the promotion of partisan political views in the teaching of any subject in the school
take reasonably practicable steps to secure that where political issues are brought to the attention of pupils, they are offered a balanced presentation of opposing views”

So the promotion of capitalism would not be acceptable to the extent it was partisan political activity.

FWIW I think the wording should be clearer and should relate to the overthrow of capitalism by non-political means i.e. anarchists and violent revolutionaries are not the same as political socialists and communists.

MichelleofzeResistance · 27/09/2020 12:38

I see we've progressed to 'safeguarding children is authoritarinism'.

Hang on a minute, identity politics is all about authoritarianism, if not totalitarianism and gulags, it's a political stance that loves that stuff.

Unless we're arguing that (like the extremist groups) some authoritarianism is good and right and fine and justified, but others is terrible and intrinsically morally wrong, and it's just working out who gets to decide which is which?

Honestly, it's all getting a bit OTT isn't it?

TheElementsOfMedical · 27/09/2020 12:40

I'm enjoying the irony of the claimed concern for freedom of speech Grin
