Ffs I am so sick of this agenda-heavy lobby group and their war against women's rights!

(Note that they are controlling who can reply to them too.)

“We are asking rugby clubs at all levels of the game to stand with us against a ruling that is exclusionary and that will impact some of the most vulnerable people in the community”.

Thanks, I think I only eve watched rugby when I lived in NZ (and that might have been because of Tama Umaga).

Datun · 30/08/2020 10:59

Well the comments aren't having any of it. Fortunately people are far better informed now.

Maybe the times has decided it needs a more sympathetic balance.

Although I disagree with two thirds of what he says, he is, at least, unequivocal about men in women's rugby.

I'm not sure that he, or The Times, realise that nothing short of a hundred percent capitulation will look like 'balance' to TRAs.

Collidascope · 30/08/2020 11:02

It pisses me off that he justifies it only in the name of safety. What about fairness? Are women not entitled to that?

yourhairiswinterfire · 30/08/2020 11:13

Exactly. What about running, tennis, etc.

There'll be no point in female athletes going through the gruelling training, because they'll have no hope in hell of winning.

Mollscroll · 30/08/2020 11:13

What about truth ?

Stephen Jones is a pig and I can’t understand how he’s won awards for his sports writing when it’s so rubbish, his vendetta against kiwis and Polynesians is so gross I tend not to read anything he writes. He called us uncivilised monkeys once. Stuart Barnes from The Times is just as bad, one of his articles on Tonga and Israel Folau was so clearly racist I find it hard to stomach the times at all now. Calling them backward and here in Britain it’s so tolerant because they’ve had education blah blah literally like they’re some weird isolated bunch of barbaric natives.
But this from Jones is so weird. Even this big ugly racist moron is scared of TRA’s. What a weak lot rugby men are.

MillyMollyFarmer · 30/08/2020 11:20

Why are you so scared Stephen Jones? Never took you for a weakling, you’ve blocked half of twitter including other journalists but you’re scared of skinny white woke bro’s?

MillyMollyFarmer · 30/08/2020 11:26

Oh god, look at his only tweet about this article.., they’re not banned from rugby you stupid man!

Thank you for the share token, and thank goodness for the mostly sensible comments. At least the people commenting can see this is not just about safety. The lack of respect for women just oozes out of that article. What a dick.

Aesopfable · 30/08/2020 11:52

Though it is something that even a misogynist who is scared of TRAs and desperate to appease men cannot stomach men in women’s rugby.

DillonPanthersTexas · 30/08/2020 12:00

He called us uncivilised monkeys once.

I'm no Stephen Jones fan but that is a pretty serious accusation. Do you have a link to where he said that as I can't find anything.

As for Stuart Barnes, criticising Israel Folau's unrepentant homophobia is not racist.

MillyMollyFarmer · 30/08/2020 12:03

I'm no Stephen Jones fan but that is a pretty serious accusation. Oh is it? Well I don’t fucking care. I didn’t make it up, I read it, and his comments about Pacific Islanders are well known. No, I’m not gonna find the link from years ago because I don’t give a fuck if you believe me. I’m Polynesian and I don’t need to put up with shit like that.

MillyMollyFarmer · 30/08/2020 12:04

That’s not what I said he did, is it. Ffs I’m not putting up with this. Go find the article. It wasn’t what he said about Folau, it was the RACIST generalisations about Tonga and Pacific Islanders. Jfc

DillonPanthersTexas · 30/08/2020 12:08

No, I’m not gonna find the link from years ago because I don’t give a fuck if you believe me.

Well, in the words of Hitchins, what can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence.

MillyMollyFarmer · 30/08/2020 12:12

Go ahead! Do you do that when women come on to discuss sexism or abuse? Ask them for links? You’ll find the Stuart Barnes article no problem, maybe you’d agree with him referring to Pacific Islanders as something from a ‘bygone era’... nothing like Britain who are ‘educated’ and don’t have these problems... cos there’s no homophones or lesbophobs in Britain of course Angry

MichelleofzeResistance · 30/08/2020 12:15

…..according to him, photographs of TW players in females teams are - just in themselves - 'brutal' and 'unkind' for showing things like height and weight difference.

It's seriously becoming taboo and 'unkind' to not conceal even the visual reality of the situation.

MillyMollyFarmer · 30/08/2020 12:19

I know, brutal to show photos? No it’s brutal to make a woman get tackled by a man.

DillonPanthersTexas · 30/08/2020 12:24

You are the one making the claim. The onus is on you to provide the evidence when challenged. You would think Jones calling people 'uncivilised monkeys' would have a caused a bit of shit storm and there would be calls for his sacking. There would be loads of news articles that could be retrieved, surely you can find one that substantiates your claim?

MillyMollyFarmer · 30/08/2020 12:26

I’m not here trying to convince you. We’ve had years of abuse from the north, every damn year there are articles about our haka and he leads that. He 100% wrote it. I feel no responsibility to find evidence for you at all. I couldn’t give a shit if you believe it or not.

MillyMollyFarmer · 30/08/2020 12:29

Yes because everyone is always so outraged by racism in rugby Hmm like when the Pacific players get red carded more for identical tackles white guys get away with, or we are left out of comps, or seen as players nothing more, or our haka is mocked by a uk clothing company, or fans start petitions to ban it... Yeah everyone is so up in arms about how we are treated, the support is just so amazing.... if you genuinely think he can’t get away with saying that, you live in a different world to me

DillonPanthersTexas · 30/08/2020 12:34

Writing trolling articles about supposed cheating of Richie McCaw, biased SH referees, unfair advantages that the haka confers to the all blacks and the poaching of pacific Island players is one thing. Calling people 'uncivilised monkeys' is quite another. If he '100% wrote it' then maybe you can find the offending article and I will happily concede I am wrong.

BacklashBacklash · 30/08/2020 12:38

I've also had a look and can't find it.
MillyMollyFarmer · 30/08/2020 12:44

Like I said, I have no intention of convincing anyone. I know what I saw all those years ago. They may have removed it.

Calling the haka a bullying tactic and ‘bogus’ is racist. That’s not ok but I’m used to people thinking it is over here.

MillyMollyFarmer · 30/08/2020 12:48

Now I know you’re being disingenuous. We are Pacific Islanders, we don’t poach our own. We have the least foreign born of any major team except the Boks. People see brown people in a colonised team and assume they’re not kiwi. They are. We aren’t the odd ones out in our own team. There were over 70 New Zealander’s at the men’s World Cup and 28 in our squad of 31. Do the math and look at your own teams.

DillonPanthersTexas · 30/08/2020 13:21

Now I know you’re being disingenuous

Christ, I was referring to the staple content of Jones's articles, not my own thoughts, I even called them 'trolling'. In your rush to turn on your outrage word salad generator you failed to actually read what I have posted.

Anyway, have you found a link to that 'uncivilised monkeys' accusation?
