Stonewall drop Mermaids?

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 12/08/2020 15:46

Seems Stonewall used to direct young people to Mermaids. But the link has been removed from the page?:

www.stonewall.org.uk/help-advice/coming-out/coming-out-young-person

And the page that used to be on there appears to be blank:

www.stonewall.org.uk/organisations/mermaids

Something is rotten in the state of Denmark, y'all.

No results on a search of Childline for Mermaids either, nor NSPCC.

highame · 12/08/2020 17:06

@rogdmum

No results on a search of Childline for Mermaids either, nor NSPCC.
Did they used to have a link?
ScrimpshawTheSecond · 12/08/2020 17:09

Can't find much on GIRES re Mermaids links. Not sure if there used to be, though, of course, although they seem to have worked together quite a lot in the past.

highame I’m virtually 100% certain (am about to see if I kept any links - did a link search about 6 months ago but can’t remember if I kept a record).

Mermaids LinkedIn says this and I’d be surprised if they didn’t from it (see photo):

Stonewall drop Mermaids?

Mermaids came under fire recently because it's cis parents helping other cis parents with their trans kids. Should be more trans centred apparently.

PronounssheRa · 12/08/2020 17:13

Hmmm I do hope this is a deliberate attempt to distance and step away from the madness!

I doubt that, stonewall are one of the driving forces behind the current gender ideology. If something is brewing re mermaids, they will be thrown under the bus to protect the wider cause

highame · 12/08/2020 17:14

Thanks rogdmum I have a feeling everyone has been asked to do this
very quietly. I wonder what the Police will do, they have Mermaids plastered all over some of their vehicles

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 12/08/2020 17:22

Have we got pictures/evidence of the police working with Mermaids?

houseofcardsdown · 12/08/2020 17:23

I work in youth services and attended an event with Brook (large young people's sexual health charity) about a year ago and that in the presentation they gave they said they referred clients to mermaids so might be worth checking if they have or have ever had any links on their website.

houseofcardsdown · 12/08/2020 17:26

Ok still on there www.brook.org.uk/topics/gender/

One to watch maybe..

SerenityNowwwww · 12/08/2020 17:26

Didn’t they get attacked by an even more .... ummm... too hot to finish that thought .... well attacked for not being run by trans people?

StandUpStraight · 12/08/2020 17:29

Some evidence of the police working with mermaids on this thread from a couple of years ago www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3452340-What-is-it-with-Mermaids-and-the-police

TheFleegleHasLanded · 12/08/2020 17:29

Could it be this? Article published this morning but I'm sure most of us are aware of the study, it was discussed here.

"Australia’s psychiatrists have been urged to be very cautious about giving official backing to gender clinic treatments for under-18s after an international scandal over false claims of mental health benefits for transgender surgery.

The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists should be “extremely careful” before endorsing so-called “gender affirming” hormonal treatment and surgery for minors, according to Philip Morris, president of the National Association of Practising Psychiatrists whose members look after patients in the private and public sector."

SerenityNowwwww · 12/08/2020 17:31

I suppose a lot of schools were ‘advised’ by them too. Plus that Pudsy Bear charity thing...

HandsOffMyRights · 12/08/2020 17:33

@ScrimpshawTheSecond

Have we got pictures/evidence of the police working with Mermaids?
I've got a collection. My favourite is the police throwing a party for Mermaids.
ScrimpshawTheSecond · 12/08/2020 17:38

I can't find any links on LGBT Police uk, but again, don't know if they were there before.

The dearth of links does seem slightly odd.

OP posts:
Shedpaint · 12/08/2020 17:40

Is this linked to the high profile TWAW team E.g. jameela jamil who have deleted old posts supporting mermaids? (Was a thread on here yesterday)

Have they all heard something we haven’t?

highame · 12/08/2020 17:51

I think the BBC and NHS removing links might have triggered a rethink. Legal departments are continually looking at what's going on and act accordingly. There's been too much bad press here in the UK recently

Just a reminder. Faircop still haven't released the information about the organisation beginning with S and something red?

There was the interference in A level law magazine, so lots of things causing issues for Mermaids, as we become aware of . I think the links to GIDS etc is enough to cause a withdrawal of lots of organisations. Harry and Megan would drop links at a mere hint of controversy and where royals go, even if they're out of the country, the rest follow. Royal patronage does not like controversy.

Bluebellbike · 12/08/2020 17:52
There is still a link here

www.stonewall.org.uk/about-us/news/lgbt-inclusive-organisations-you-should-know-about
Yes. And if you search Trans links and put Leeds in the area Mermaids comes up.

Melroses · 12/08/2020 17:54

Royal patronage does not like controversy

That's the thing - the whole concept of 'trans kids' is controversial. S Green and mermaids made it mainstream. (Overton window?)

NeurotrashWarrior · 12/08/2020 18:06

Are we certain they've just not updated the link to the new website? I think the new mermaids website was only done this year?

Clymene · 12/08/2020 18:06

God that Kenta bloke is very angry isn't he? His Facebook profile is quite something

AnyOldPrion · 12/08/2020 18:10

I reckon Mermaids, having been useful being run by a mother, is being thrown to the wolves to protect the greater infrastructure

Possible... but personally I like to think it’s more like a house of cards. Mermaids may be the top layer, but the whole edifice is wobbling...

Puuuuuuuulllllll!

ShiveringCoyote · 12/08/2020 18:23

If I recall correctly the whistle blowers at the TAVI said something about a certain charity coaching children on what to say to get puberty blockers and synthetic hormones.

HandsOffMyRights · 12/08/2020 18:30

I wonder how Sarah Champion's Tweet from Jan 19 will age?

"I have researched & met with Mermaids & was very impressed with their work. Parents & children need support with gender issues, npt suspicion."
