Twitter has suspended me

Glinner · 27/06/2020 03:16

I'm really sorry to barge in on you Mumsnettters with my problems, but
I've been finally suspended from Twitter and I have a feeling they're either going to ban me or just take my verified tick. I've submitted an appeal with Twitter and the Better Business Bureau but I thought I'd post here too so people knew what was going on.

Recently, I keep being locked out of my account and forced to delete tweets to get back in. The latest tactic by trans rights activists is to run a search for any time I've used the word 'groomer', a phrase Twitter recently decided was Not Allowed.

This was not a violation of Twitter's ToS at the time I used the phrase, and I have been careful to avoid it since. I still use the word 'grooming' in various permutations because I believe that gender ideology is a form of societal grooming. It is a very real threat to the wellbeing of women and children and if our ability to name a threat is removed, it is even more difficult to fight that threat.

You may remember that Twitter similarly removed Canadian feminist Meghan Murphy. She lost her account when she said "that's him" about 'Jessica' Yaniv. Bear in mind that Yaniv was still going under 'Jonathan' at the time, and just as in my case, her crime against Twitter's Terms of Service was not actually an offence at the time she committed it. She probably never thought she could be banned from the public square for uttering the words "that's him". But that's Twitter.

Twitter has a high percentage of trans-identified employees and for some time has been silencing feminists and their allies who run afoul of its absurd 'misgendering' policies. The one good thing about my situation is that I'm in great company--Claire Graham, Meghan Murphy, Skylar Gwynn, Miranda Yardley, GNC Centric and many more, important feminist and critical voices who have been silenced for fighting a dangerous ideology that tells children it's possible to be born into the wrong body.

Anyway, that's what's happening. Please let people know it's entirely down to malicious reporting from the usual suspects and please keep watching my YouTube Channel and visiting my depressing blog. I'll also be available on Glindr if people from Twitter want to re-establish contact there. Hope it's ok to post these links to those destinations

Thanks for all the support, and thanks for letting me fight alongside you.

Good luck, Graham, you have been and will continue to be an ally to women. Thank you for the support so far.

Baroness
Mostly unpunctuated fan lit of some kind. Didn't read it. Can't imagine who would.

Makegoodchoices · 27/06/2020 09:21

Just chipping in with a thank you Graham.
You first brought so much of it to my attention, and also gave me lots of good people to follow and learn more. You’ve risked such a lot x

xJodiex · 27/06/2020 09:21

Agree with you @xanthangum

It says so much about Twitter that someone can be suspended for accidentally using the wrong pronoun but won't be for making sexualised or racist threats.

That says it all really. Tells you exactly what is really going on.

NotBadConsidering · 27/06/2020 09:22

Best thing now about this thread is Twitter is full of claims that Glinner got his arse handed to him and it was taken down because “T*RFs” abandoned him. 😆😆😆

Funnily enough no one has come back to correct themselves on Twitter.

Glinner · 27/06/2020 09:23

@CodenameVillanelle

Glinner you have my support.

The funny thing is that TRAs seem to think if they silence Glinner then feminists will stop fighting for our rights. Glinner is an ally, not a leader.

Yes, this fight will be fought and won by women. Just once I would like to see Owen Jones or similar try to get away with saying TWAW to someone like Julie Bindel on air. There would be a smoking crater in the studio where his chair used to be.

If you really believe TWAW, try saying it to a woman's face, on-camera. See how that goes.

We should try to make that happen as often as possible. Get on TV, on phone-in shows, get them to say it, and then go full Bishop Brennan after being kicked up the arse on them.

@glinner thanks for posting here and for all you do. I'll keep following wherever you may be.

Lies and misinformation - just another weekend, eh?!
BaronessWrongCrowd · 27/06/2020 09:25

@GetFGlineham oh bless. It's a capital letter at the beginning of cry and you should use a full stop at the end of the sentence.

Perhaps spend more time studying at school than insulting people on a forum for grown ups, sweetie.

CaraDune · 27/06/2020 09:25

Owen Jones live with any one of Julie Bindel, Posie Parker or Julia Hartley Brewer would be a delight! (He'd flounce though.)

nolongersurprised · 27/06/2020 09:25

Could anyone who was up at the time summarise violet's points?

There were 3 types of posts. Violet’s, IIRC were just weird spammy gamer type stuff. I don’t think Violet is well.

The other posts were either strangely penis-focussed (I’m sure you can imagine) or messages directed to glinner (not of support). Frighteningly devoid of punctuation or grammar, which I personally found more disconcerting than the more genital-focussed posts.

12boo · 27/06/2020 09:25

Stop using the words grooming/groomer. Frame it a different way. Make it harder for people to report. The stuff that some organisations say speaks its own horror, we don't need to spell it out. Enough rope flying around of their own making imo.
I am grateful to you for your voice Graham. I'm a follower and really appreciate what you do but sometimes we all could benefit from using a less combative tone on Twitter
Also ffs someone come up with a
site that isn't run by misogynistic W*s

TwentyViginti · 27/06/2020 09:25

@JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown

Christ, what happened around here? Someone order a family sized bucket of incels and a litre of misogyny to go?

😆 The number of deleted posts on here is insane. I am at least partially sorry MN doesnt let them stand. That way everyone can see what we're actually arguing against.
Sorry to hear about the suspension, Glinner. Twitter's record on this is worrying. Like others in this thread, I've reported blatant map accounts that have been allowed to stand as well as some incredibly nasty white supremacist ones and not much has happened.
It says so much about Twitter that someone can be suspended for accidentally using the wrong pronoun but won't be for making sexualised or racist threats.

Amen! Twitter is appallingly skewed on many levels.

Glinner Sad Flowers

Glinner · 27/06/2020 09:26

Similarly 'cis' will not survive if every time a woman hears it she says "Excuse me, I'm sorry but I find that word offensive." I genuinely think one day it'll be seen like the N-word. Used only by a certain type, and whispered at that.

I wonder if any of our new posters have heard of the Streisand effect? It's really interesting, you should go look it up.

toomuchtooold · 27/06/2020 09:26

I've never seen a thread on here with so many deleted posts, not even the buggies vs wheelchairs on London buses ones. It just goes to show a) how much hatred you can attract for standing up for the rights of women and b) how much you must have them rattled @glinner. They have a troubled relationship with reality, the TRAs, but it must be getting through even to them that as their activities and demands are attracting more mainstream media attention, ordinary people are waking up to their narcissistic nonsense. This is the extinction burst.

DickKerrLadies · 27/06/2020 09:27

But by all means, keep reading and posting on this thread - it really helps to keep it at the top of the active list.

Thanks!

BaronessWrongCrowd · 27/06/2020 09:28

Defending women's rights is hate speech. Nah.

PurpleCrowbarWhereIsLangCleg · 27/06/2020 09:29

Goodness, the little wankers really are rattled, aren't they?

Thanks for helping us let in the sunlight, Glinner.

ItsSummer · 27/06/2020 09:29

Transwomen are not and will never be women.

It doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t be allowed to dress as they like or live as they wish.

But the TRA to nothing for their cause. Their aggressive misogyny are, quite frankly, scary.

What a world. Stating a truth should not be vilified.

Thank you @Glinner

I understand that but I'm hoping others will catch a bit of my anger. I think women underestimate how powerful their rage is. Speaking as a man, it has always fucking terrified me. Think what'll it do to these bastards who think they can just walk in and take your privacy, your right to safety, your connection with your kids. I am absolutely BURNING with anger about it all and I'm afraid that won't change until we start to get a fair hearing.
