I doubt there’s much point in emailing my current woke Labour MP.

I emailed my female Labour MP and got a response along the lines of "We don't have time to deal with this right now, don't you know there's a pandemic on?". I couldn't even be bothered to write a narky reply, what's the point.

I held my nose and voted Labour last year but next time I'll be spoiling my ballot paper.

Do write to her and let her know that, though.

I would write back and say that they have had time to promote all this crap and have been doing so from way back. Don’t use the ‘convenience’ of being very busy bit hong a lot everything the government is and isn’t doing (and not actually being helpful).
ByGrabtharsHammerWhatASavings · 14/06/2020 09:26

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you need to be a times subscriber to vote in the poll? Can't see many people signing up just to skew the results. Also, in fairness, the results are already kind of skewed just because people who subscribe to the times are likely to also subscribe to the GC perspective. Just like a poll that was only open to guardian subscribers would probably be more heavily in favour of self id. So whilst I do believe that the majority of the public oppose self Id (when they understand what it actually means, not the Bonewall version of it) I'm not sure the ST poll alone can be taken as an indicator of that.

Lordfrontpaw · 14/06/2020 09:27

‘ bit hong a lot‘ wow autocorrect!

‘Bitching about’

FusionChefGeoff · 14/06/2020 09:27

Mmm, they've provided some balance in an Opinion piece:

Self-identification seems to be the last straw for those people who persist in their resistance to the trans-liberation movement. They presume the proposed regime will open up a flood of sex attacks on cisgender women (natal females) perpetrated by trans women.

Yet self-identity isn’t about giving men a licence to put on a dress and call themselves women in order to rape and attack females. Self-identity is about giving people of all gender expressions the right to live without having to justify their existence, in their own skin and in peace.

I can't comment as it's DH account and I don't think it's fair to attribute my opinions to his name but feel free to correct her that it's not attacks by transgender people I am concerned about, but attacks by MEN!

Not to mention sports, safeguarding and a general failure to acknowledge that our oppression is based on our biology!

HPFA · 14/06/2020 09:27

David Lammy on Marr.

"We will need to look at the legislation when it comes forward".

OldCrone · 14/06/2020 09:27

@SocialConnection

My local council is busily turning the park cafe ladies loo into an accessible inclusive loo.

Aka mixed sex toilets. In a park. Where children run in on their own.

PS the gents' loo is remaining untouched.

I have complained to the council. My objections were dismissed.

I'm going back in.

This doesn't comply with the Equality Act. If the men have a separate toilet then there must also be one for women only. What they are doing is discriminating against women.
FusionChefGeoff · 14/06/2020 09:28

Sorry here's the link but I don't know how share tokens work due to the DH account thing

I’ve emailed my (Tory, female) MP and also Keir Starmer.

AbsintheFriends · 14/06/2020 09:29

This is just being discussed on Marr and he's asked his guest if it's a 'real story or just a distraction?'.

It's so insulting isn't it? Women's lives, the rights generations have fought tooth and nail for, and men on telly muse that it's so trivial it must be a distraction for something serious.

The Marr Show must have a Twitter handle...
Beamur · 14/06/2020 09:32

Good article in the Times too.

OhHolyJesus · 14/06/2020 09:38

On the letters front is it worth writing to or following up with the corporates who apply self ID?

I realise this isn't solid yet, it's not even in guidelines form but there are no plans to change the law so Self ID is...corporate policy which isn't aligned with the government position?

I'm thinking M&S, Centre Parcs, all those who lost my custom and cash when I realised they didn't care about women (at least half of not more of their customer base).

Aesopfable · 14/06/2020 09:39

@334bu

We've still got an uphill battle on our hands in Scotland unfortunately. Sad
It might make Nicola Sturgeon and the SNPs more determined as they are them different to westminster. Being different to westminster is more important than anything else.
HPFA · 14/06/2020 09:40

To be fair, this probably is the government motivation. I doubt Boris Johnson cares anything at all about women's rights.

NotAssigned · 14/06/2020 09:41

Definitely write to Starmer.

Ultimately the success of these proposals will depend on how many Tory rebels there are and how many on the opposition benches are prepared to put their head above the parapet and vote with the government.

We've a head start of 40 if everyone goes along party lines.

Reedshoes · 14/06/2020 09:41

I think self ID should be allowed but sex and gender be properly defined and separate and spaces be defined by sex
Job done, everyone happy

@ThousandsAreSailing

I completely agree with this

NotAssigned · 14/06/2020 09:42

I don't think this is government distraction. It has been signalled by Truss for some time. I suspect however that it was deliberately leaked a month early to surf the JKR wave.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 14/06/2020 09:44

Never thought I would find myself in agreement with Liz Truss over anything! Grin

Still, a good day for women Grin

twoHopes · 14/06/2020 09:46

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I think maybe I will email back my Labour MP and tell her that I won't be voting for her in the next election, given that she doesn't find women's rights important enough to talk about. I'll let you know if I hear anything back Grin

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 14/06/2020 09:47

I suspect however that it was deliberately leaked a month early to surf the JKR wave.

I would think there's a lot of truth in this. God bless you, Jo.

NotAssigned · 14/06/2020 09:48

Next step: Repeal of the GRA. It is not needed now that same sex marriage is on the statute books.

Grandfather rights for those who have a certificate.

You should not be able to create a legal fiction or change a document of fact such as a birth certificate.

Perhaps Stonewall could put their considerable energy and cash into campaigning for third spaces rather than brainwashing corporations and the police.

Kit19 · 14/06/2020 09:49

Definitely email your MP especially if Tory. After all the shit they were rightly given fir the Cummings stuff & the plummeting approval rates, they’ll be very eager for something voters do like

I will also email Keir Starmer & say that I won’t vote for a party that is happy to throw Transphobe & bigot at women just fir asking questions

Bellevu · 14/06/2020 09:56

@TedsFederationRep

Happy to, SirSamuel. I'll put something together later today and PM it to you.
Me too please
