Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Priti Patel

I'm not sure if feminism is the right place for this, but, at the same time, I think that the treatment of Priti Patel has a lot to do with her sex, so...

Firstly, i'm not really a fan of Patel's politics. Whilst I am politically homeless, I am not a Tory.

However, I find the treatment of Priti Patel to be quite unique, and not in a good way. A few months ago, there were countless stories about her being a "bully". I'm not sure if she is or not, but i do know hat her male counterparts rarely get the same insults thrown at them.

Yesterday, she received a letter from several Labour members (twitter.com/pritipatel/status/1271075607955288064). The letter criticises the way that Patel has discussed her experiences of racism in the UK. It asks her to reflect on her words and impact. I found this letter incredibly patronising. Again, I doubt it would have been sent to her if she were male.

Karens hate sexism but love racism 🙄

BovaryX · 12/06/2020 16:55

Yes, and it’s very instructive to see how comfortable the Left can be with shouting racist abuse at BAME people

Yes. It is very illuminating.

So called BAME people don't like the labels you apply and also are perplexed at the whole left and right divide, along with the ridiculous feminist and non-feminist divide. Now I know how racist you all are I will do my best to oppose you.

Pertella · 12/06/2020 17:12

Kiss, what racism? People seem to be saying that even if you think PP is awful that's no excuse to be racist towards her Confused

AKissAndASmile · 12/06/2020 17:18

If somebody was defending statues of a person that enslaved just women, you'd all be burning your bras. But because it's enslavement of black people, Priti is ok and being attacked because she's female 🙄

DidoLamenting · 12/06/2020 17:20

AKissAndASmile

Your use of "Karen" says a lot about you- none of it good.

Pertella · 12/06/2020 17:20

Oh. Silly me 😒

Needmoresleep · 12/06/2020 17:20

PP has been elected through a democratic process.

Attack her policies all you like. But no need to attack her as a person, especially when those attacks seem based on her sex and racial origin.

GCAcademic · 12/06/2020 17:22

@AKissAndASmile

You can do one with your racism. I’m from a BAME group (not sure what you mean by “so-called” but then most of your posts are childish, misogynistic, racist, ageist twaddle at the intellectual level of a toddler, so I can’t be arsed deciphering your gobbledygook) and I’m sick of people like you telling me that because my skin is dark I have to think like everyone else whose skin is dark. It’s dehumanising.

aliasundercover · 12/06/2020 17:23

I don't like her because she wants to bring back the death penalty.

That's all I need to know about her really.

BovaryX · 12/06/2020 17:25

@Pertella

There is a racist post on here. About Priti Patel. Its author is @AKissAndASmile

^She's more than welcome to hate herself and her heritage and pass laws that would have meant she wouldn't even be here if she wants.
FFS, I wish someone would have passed them decades ago and she wouldn't be in the UK^

Pertella · 12/06/2020 17:28

I made the mistake of thinking they were posting in good faith and had misunderstood what was being said.

Pertella · 12/06/2020 17:28

But they just wanted to tell the naughty women off

Pertella · 12/06/2020 17:29

I dont like her for a lot of reasons, but using her skin colour and heritage to attack her isnt on, imo.

aliasundercover · 12/06/2020 17:34

Pertella

Agreed

BlueBooby · 12/06/2020 17:34

@GCAcademic

The jibes on Twitter calling her a ‘c*nut’ are awful.

Yes, and it’s very instructive to see how comfortable the Left can be with shouting racist abuse at BAME people.

I agree.
fridpst · 12/06/2020 17:36

So called BAME people

Wow...

MrMagoo100 · 12/06/2020 17:37

I'm no fan of her. I thinks she isn't qualified for the job. She seems an unpleasant person. I don't think she's the smartest MP by a long shot.

He treatment on social media recently is nothing more that blatant racism.

AKissAndASmile · 12/06/2020 17:47

So called BAME people
This is why I dislike the BAME label white people like to use

fridpst · 12/06/2020 17:56

So BAME are not minority's in the UK?

fridpst · 12/06/2020 17:57

plenty of BAME people use BAME

Pertella · 12/06/2020 18:05

Just because you dislike it doesn't mean its racist

Freespeecher · 12/06/2020 18:14

GCAcademic has already touched on it but there's seems to be an ongoing movement not to include people of Indian origin in the BAME grouping, perhaps to discredit Boris having Priti Patel, Rishi Sunak and Suella Braverman in his cabinet.
Seems to be a specifically Labour thing - for some bizarre reason there was a big kickoff over Kashmir before the 2019 election and GCA has already touched on that bizarre Graun article (and its excellent rebuttal).

It may fizzle out but one to watch I suppose.

BelleHathor · 12/06/2020 18:17

What always surprises me is the speed at which the wokerati will turn to threats and insults when you don't play the good little minority. Uppity, Coconut, Oreo, black on the outside, white on the inside etc. It's a more dehumanizing insidious type of racism as they pretend to be your friend as long as you behave in their prescribed manner.

nettie434 · 12/06/2020 18:43

I dislike Priti Patel's views - for instance she supported the death penalty (although she denies this now) and showed poor judgement when had those unauthorised meetings in Israel. However, she gets a lot of misogynistic and racist abuse. Goodness knows, she is not in a Cabinet of political Titans so why is so much abuse directed at her?

It's worth pointing out that many people of Indian and East African heritage who are in the Conservative party are from families who could not get jobs when they moved here and so had no choice but to set up their own businesses which became very successful.

It was interesting to read the posts about Labour criticism aimed at of people who have the 'wrong' politics because there are some parallels with anti semitism. Many Corbynistas took the view that Jewish people who were economically comfortable could not experience discrimination. There was a similar incident with Kemi Badenoch who was told last week that she was not allowed to think Britain was one of the best countries in which to be from a minority ethnic group. Of course there is too much racism here but she is entitled to speak from her experience as a person of Nigerian heritage.
