And has effectively also said that Women's Place and the LGB Alliance (essentially groups for women, gays and lesbians to meet and discuss women's, gay and lesbian issues) are hate groups and them meeting are hate crimes

KS won’t go near this. He knows.

Rather than allow women to be pitted against one another, the Labour Party should always be an open and safe space for all

She doesn't mean women does she?

Floisme · 12/02/2020 07:58

That Owen Jones tweet reminds me of Janice Turner remarking on how he and Ash Sarkar sat in a TV studio as the election results came in, looking like teenagers who'd burned down the family home.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 12/02/2020 08:08

Burned down houses can be rebuilt. The Labour Party I'm not so sure about, so well done there, "fully automated luxury communism" kids.

MrsKneller · 12/02/2020 08:22

The Labour Party should be a safe place for all....except teenage girls, who have to just get over their silly embarrassment and accept bring forced to get changed in front of men, and female prisoners, who need to accept being locked up with men....and of course those awful lesbians who refuse to have sex with men. No safe place for them in Labour!

Their motto should be : “Labour, bringing an unwanted penis to a place near you.”

Lordfrontpaw · 12/02/2020 08:27

These people don’t have family and friends with any common sense?

Xanthangum · 12/02/2020 08:35

Keir Starmer has tweeted. No direct reference to the trans issue at all.

Sometimes it's what you don't say that speaks loudest.

ChattyLion · 12/02/2020 08:40

In this climate I need Labour politicians to actually stand up for women though.

Lordfrontpaw · 12/02/2020 08:41

They won’t though will they? The party isn’t the party anymore. It’s zombie Labour Party now.

Lordfrontpaw · 12/02/2020 08:48

Is it just me or are negative comments under the original tweet being weeded out?

Violetparis · 12/02/2020 08:50

I am disappointed in Lisa Nandy too, I had thought she seemed a fair and sensible politician, will wait to see what Keir Starmer has to say. Angela Rayner has lost my vote.
Where are the voices of feminists in the media, Jo Brand, Sandi Toskvig, Caitlin Moran, Jess Phillips, Stella Creasy etc. Imagine if Boris or JRM had called for the shut down of women's voices, these 'feminists' would be all over social media to criticise.

Mockersisrightasusual · 12/02/2020 08:56

Starmer is being very careful. Some people would rather he did a Kamikaze and blew up his own campaign, but this is better.

Xanthangum · 12/02/2020 09:01

In - possibly related - news, TRAs appear to be cross that Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham has met with the LGB Alliance but not Stonewall, Mermaids or Gendered Intelligence

Haha go Andy!

GCAcademic · 12/02/2020 09:03

It’s so uplifting to see how enthusiastically and seriously Labour has embraced this “period of reflection” following their disastrous election campaign.

Pander to the dude bro or woke and you'll never go broke
Align with feminists, find finances in extremis

He probably hasn't met with the Beaumont Society either, the bigot!

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 12/02/2020 09:27

Or with the puppy play blokes, who presumably have some sort of organization to promote their interests too. The speciesist bastard.

OnABeachSomewhere · 12/02/2020 09:44

What a shame there is so much gynophobia among the woke, much of it from women, too.

Michelleoftheresistance · 12/02/2020 09:46

Starmer made very clear on the MN webchat that he's fully signed up to anti women, anti LGB and anti safeguarding and to jumping on command. If he's got sufficient pattern recognition to realise that saying so on Twitter this morning is a Bad Idea, that doesn't mean he's any different to the others.

There is no non-lunatic option in the Labour leadership race, you can just select your lunatic to be sold in a range of cosmetic shapes and voice options.

RoyalCorgi · 12/02/2020 09:53

What happened to little OJ's resolution not to post provocative comments on Twitter? Didn't last long, did it?

They really are the most tremendous bunch of eejits, to channel Father Dougal.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 12/02/2020 09:54

The problem is that the crossover between the groups "people who might be able to win the Labour Party leadership" and "people who the general public might be willing to vote for" is approaching absolute zero. If Starmer says anything sensible about trans issues he won't be elected leader. If someone who says all the things that would win them the leadership is presented to the general public, well, we all just saw what happens a few months ago.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 12/02/2020 09:54

I wonder if part of the reason behind their desire to display wokeness at all times may be that they think they will be appealing to the younger demographic ie younger teens who will be of an age to vote at the next election?
Perhaps that's giving them too much credit, you can't really have an eye to the long game if you have them closed very tightly!

Even if this was a factor, you would think they would realise that throwing 50% of the population under the bus as an inducement to the younger demographic vote, doesn't make much sense...but sense seems to be sadly lacking, doesn't it.

Even now I find it hard to believe adults could be so wilfully fucking stupid as to genuinely fall for this denial of reality, or to pretend they have fallen.

Lumene · 12/02/2020 09:57

In this climate I need Labour politicians to actually stand up for women though.

No leadership candidate who did this would win enough momentum/woke votes from the membership to win.

Poota · 12/02/2020 09:58

Starmer is presumably staying away because he's a canny politician who thinks he has already said enough to display fealty to the Queer theory crowd, and realizes leaving this one alone may get him the votes of the women who are so pissed off with it.

I suspect the women candidates eagerly demonstrating their credentials by signing a statement pledging to expel women who wish to discuss their rights in the context of biological reality, and lesbians, gay men and bisexual people who don't want their rights diluted by connections to nonces and gender neo-religion, believe they are being brave and progressive, and once one woman signed, there was a collective clamour to get it done and retain the votes of the momentum nutters who have squatted in the power base of the party like an ugly toad.

It's a race to the bottom, basically. The only thing that can be said for Starmer right now is that he's not yet been stupid enough to think the bottom is the ideal destination.

As for LOJ and his 'don't want your votes anyway' petulance - go ahead, mate, see how well that strategy has worked for the LibDems, you faux-socialist.
