And has effectively also said that Women's Place and the LGB Alliance (essentially groups for women, gays and lesbians to meet and discuss women's, gay and lesbian issues) are hate groups and them meeting are hate crimes

Dammit Rubid beat me to it.

I know I shouldn't be enjoying this but I can't stop laughing.

littlbrowndog · 11/02/2020 23:30

Pledges 3, 4, and 5 are intrinsically sexist and homophobic. Collectively the pledges are a recipe for introducing structural instability into the Labour Party. Its not sustainable to try and get everyone to disbelieve the evidence of their own eyes. Sex exists. Its material.

ThePurported · 11/02/2020 23:31

Farcical. Lisa Nandy tweets about transphobic hate crimes but doesn't have anything to say about the appalling smears against WPUK and LGB Alliance.

littlbrowndog · 11/02/2020 23:32

It’s like the feckers have just gone we will never get elected.

Let’s just do mad stuff instead.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 11/02/2020 23:33

Pitting women against each other is precisely what this group of demands is intended to do. And I do mean the actual women. It's Good Girls versus Evil Witches and that is 100% intentional.

AtrociousCircumstance · 11/02/2020 23:33

I have just cancelled my membership.

Fucking hell. Also politically homeless.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 11/02/2020 23:34

Like they rewatched the old Monty Python episode about the Spanish Inquisition and saw it as a how to guide, littlbrowndog.

littlbrowndog · 11/02/2020 23:34

Twitter tonight

A game-changing policy which is going to help win back those northern heartlands?

Or a policy which will be viewed as swivel-eyed, ‘woke’ gobbledygook by 95% of the population? 🤔

I know what my money would be on. 🙄

LexMitior · 11/02/2020 23:35

It seems more and more likely the Conservatives are not going to touch GRA for their next ten years of power.

Unfortunately the Labour Party have decided now it is to indulge in some seriously inaccessible and counterintuitive repressive group think on transgender rights which makes them look even madder that’s before the election.

Eventually they will just hollow themselves out as a political force - sad as they seem to think that the solution is to elect a better people. It never works like that in reality. I hope Starmer wins. He is a grown up has actually done something of real substance with his life before politics. The rest have nothing like that. They are just weak and intellectually pitiful. You cannot believe this is the same party as the one the one that Atlee, Wilson, Jenkins, Benn, Castle, Crosland, Bevan, Healey once took part in. These were serious people who could accept differences of opinion. Now the Labour Party is a clown college where collective, intolerant stupid controls matters. I’m sure this bollocks is popular with student unions but it won’t win any votes.

littlbrowndog · 11/02/2020 23:35

True kittens. 😂😂😂😂

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 11/02/2020 23:37

I can't wait to see what my lifelong Labour voting family think about this. I'm glad to be doing it over the phone so I can hold it away from my ear until the swearing dies down.

They should have just launched it with the hashtag #don'telectus, much more efficient.

Rubidium · 11/02/2020 23:39

So Lisa Nandy saw that #ExpelMe has been trending on Twitter all evening, Rebecca Long-Bailey and Angela Rayner are getting a pasting and she thinks, "I'll have some of what they're having"

slaps forehead

OccasionalKite · 11/02/2020 23:43

All those fucking repeated command words: "Accept" "Believe" "Commit" etc.

That's not a balanced frame of mind, whoever wrote it.

tenlittlecygnets · 11/02/2020 23:44

Is Labour insane??????

Cue women leaving in droves.

Rubidium · 11/02/2020 23:49

Atlee, Wilson, Jenkins, Benn, Castle, Crosland, Bevan, Healey

Oh God I could weep reading the names on that list and comparing them to the pygmies who run the show now. Can you imagine what Barbara Castle would have made of all this?

theflushedzebra · 11/02/2020 23:54

Lisa Nandy was always going to support it - I'm surprised she wasn't the first tbh.

The way she spoke on the Any Questions last year left me in no doubt. Succintly paraphrased:

Audience member (clearly a transwoman): "Are transwomen women?"

David Davies: "well, we have to look out for women's single sex spaces, in prisons and so on..."

Lisa Nandy: "Not what he said! TWAW! Fuck women!"

That was my impression anyway....

Arseaboutdarkly · 12/02/2020 00:00

I wish i could understand what is happening. These aren't stupid people, they aren't gullible or easily led, they all fully understand the impact of misogyny and the appalling violence inflicted on women every day.

Yet they are turning their backs on women and even threatening them - for what? I just can't get my head round it at all.

wellbehavedwomen · 12/02/2020 00:07

@Lordfrontpaw was it 'internalised misogyny'?

It's very disconcerting watching an institution that you grew up just assuming you'd always support veering so far off course that not only can you no longer support them, you're kind of hoping nobody else does either. I never thought I'd find myself looking at the Labour Party and thinking "I wouldn't let you run me a bath, never mind run the country".

This.

I suspect that if all the women sign, so will Starmer, because he's in the lead and therefore it becomes an avoidable risk to take a different, and untested, position. As long as it doesn't harm his "moderate and electable" stance, and lose him some extremely effective and experienced supporters, of course. That's a risk, too. As is the fact that if only one isn't signing up to this, that guarantees them all the votes of those who think sex does in fact exist, and women do actually matter, thanks, which (due to the chilling effect) is likely to be many times more than those who can say so openly - plus the votes of those sick to the back teeth of a focus on identity politics rather than winning elections, too.

Who knows.

Wasn't it Jung Chang's Wild Swans that began with what she said was an ancient Chinese curse: May you live in interesting times.

LexMitior · 12/02/2020 00:12

They are stupid, weak and cowardly. Their reactions tell you whether they are fit to lead the country.

Imo they aren’t because of exactly things like this. Good leaders are in tune with the general population. They get their votes. Boris is good at that.

These people are just self referencing and timid. No one will vote for them as a serious party - they are going to end up as a metro-left party. Good bye power.

Arseaboutdarkly · 12/02/2020 00:19

I don't think Starmer will touch this with a barge-pole. He might stretch to giving a placating answer about trans rights but no way he's stupid enough to sign up to this sinister piece of shit (I pray)

BritneyPeedOnALadybug · 12/02/2020 00:41

Owen Jones has posted his own opinion about #ExpelMe:

Angela Rayner says you can only be a Labour member if you believe TWAW
theflushedzebra · 12/02/2020 00:47

Owen Jones is trying to make the Labour Party into some sort of private FB group, or some sort of twitter echo chamber.

"WE DON"T WANT YOUR VOTES YOU BLOODY WITCHES! EXPEL YOURSELVES!"

Right, Owen. Good luck in the next election. Boris Johnson is continuing to look incredibly popular, and can do wtf he likes with his 80 seat majority - but you keep banging your little drum, Owen. Good plan Hmm

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 12/02/2020 01:08

It really is a sort of private members club for these idiots. They have no understanding of what forcing the Labour party to work that way means for all the people who that change leaves totally unrepresented politically.

Or maybe they do and they're just that vicious and spiteful.

jadefinch · 12/02/2020 07:51

The Lisa Nandy comments show she's completely unfit to be leader. She waited until Rayner and RLB's tweets had gone down so badly that #expelme was trending at number one - on Twitter which Labour stupidly usually obsessed with - and still tweeted this. What a shower

Just seen Lisa Nandy's comments. Oh dear. And I was hoping she was at least in the "we need to have a big discussion " wing of the party.
Bye Lisa. You've lost me.
