And has effectively also said that Women's Place and the LGB Alliance (essentially groups for women, gays and lesbians to meet and discuss women's, gay and lesbian issues) are hate groups and them meeting are hate crimes

In - possibly related - news, TRAs appear to be cross that Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham has met with the LGB Alliance but not Stonewall, Mermaids or Gendered Intelligence

I fear that Andy Burnham will never be a supporter of women's rights. This meeting will be used to say that he's listened, considered all the arguments, and his conclusion is that the only women that matter are the ones with penises.

GCAcademic · 12/02/2020 10:08

As for LOJ and his 'don't want your votes anyway' petulance - go ahead, mate, see how well that strategy has worked for the LibDems, you faux-socialist.

The incredible thing about this is that after the general election result, LOJ utterly denied that anyone was telling voters who didn't agree with far-left extremist positions not to vote for Labour. He was incredulous at the very suggestion that this could have happened. He shut up pretty quickly when someone showed him one of his own tweets.

GCAcademic · 12/02/2020 10:09

Oh, Andy Burnham is not a friend to women. He has already shown his colours on this.

Justhadathought · 12/02/2020 10:11

Yet they are turning their backs on women and even threatening them - for what? I just can't get my head round it at all

They're all onboard a train which they won't be able to exit until it crashes. It's such a shame to see Lisa Nandy conform to this, though...she was my preferred candidate, and I thought she, at least, might just say nothing. Disappointing.

Xanthangum · 12/02/2020 10:11

Selina Todd is talking about it in an hour or so.

To be honest, I hope they now elect Long Bailey........that will mean they are finished as a political force....for many years to come.

ThePurported · 12/02/2020 10:15

once one woman signed, there was a collective clamour to get it done and retain the votes of the momentum nutters who have squatted in the power base of the party like an ugly toad

I suppose some of them might be true believers in ladybrain and sex-as-a-spectrum, but the really chilling bit is their willingness to denounce women's and LGB rights campaigners as hate groups.
A couple of months ago Labour were making noises about protecting women's sex-based rights, and now this.

Justhadathought · 12/02/2020 10:17

It’s so uplifting to see how enthusiastically and seriously Labour has embraced this “period of reflection” following their disastrous election campaign

Momentum have turned Labour into a fringe religious group. Socialism is the new Christianity - and the benefits will never come in this world...only the next.

GCAcademic · 12/02/2020 10:19

To be honest, I hope they now elect Long Bailey........that will mean they are finished as a political force....for many years to come.

That's exactly how I feel, to be honest, as much as it pains me to say it as someone who has voted Labour most of my adult life. With Starmer as leader they have a chance to win a general election, and there is no way that he wouldn't implement self-ID.

Justhadathought · 12/02/2020 10:21

I wonder if part of the reason behind their desire to display wokeness at all times may be that they think they will be appealing to the younger demographic ie younger teens who will be of an age to vote at the next election

Absolutely. Lib-left organisations now trying to pander to the young - to the point that ageism has become perfectly acceptable. And the BBC/The Guardian in trying to win over very specific audiences are actually alienating many of their core support.

LolaSmiles · 12/02/2020 10:21

Labour need to spend more time focusing on decent centre left policies that will improve the lives of many instead of pissing about with identity politics and enabling fringe groups like Momentum to set the agenda.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 12/02/2020 10:24

I also think Andy Burnham has the strategy of appealing to potential voters, with an eye to a bid for leadership in the future - one of my friends who is in Manchester has told me that as mayor he has introduced free travel passes for 16-18 year olds and they all think he is wonderful.

theflushedzebra · 12/02/2020 10:25

I feel the same GCAcademic

Although I'm not sure even Starmer could win the next election - back in December, the election analysts were saying no party has ever gone from 80 seats down to a win in the next election. It may depend on how awful brexit is, and how many people blame Boris and think oh perhaps we should have given Labour a shot at it after all.

Michelleoftheresistance · 12/02/2020 10:25

I see Twitter have removed #expelme from the trending list, and split the hashtag to try and cover it all up.

Good luck with that, chaps. I think that genie's long out of the bottle.

Justhadathought · 12/02/2020 10:26

Or maybe they do and they're just that vicious and spiteful

I think what we are witnessing is another twist of social history.....with the various players already assigned their roles in the drama.
And I also see the wholesale invasion of American narratives and patterns of engagement - to the extent that the traditional British left is unrecognisable.

Binterested · 12/02/2020 10:27

Labour can’t win next time. Maybe the time after that. If the leadership can rebuild the party. Last time it took them Kinnock then Smith then Blair. They haven’t even decided they need a Kinnock yet.

Aesopfable · 12/02/2020 10:29

A couple of months ago Labour were making noises about protecting women's sex-based rights

Only certain ‘women’ once they had self id.

ArranUpsideDown · 12/02/2020 10:30

Momentum have turned Labour into a fringe religious group. Socialism is the new Christianity - and the benefits will never come in this world...only the next.

Saw this the other day (lost the source):

"Nietzsche said in Beyond Good & Evil: “Christianity gave Eros poison to drink; he did not die of it, certainly, but degenerated to Vice.” Secular progressivism gave compassion poison to drink...and it degenerated into social justice."

theflushedzebra · 12/02/2020 10:45

I see Twitter have removed #expelme from the trending list, and split the hashtag to try and cover it all up.

They have! Sneaky. They'll probably expel us all from Twitter now too. All those beardy TRAs/MRAs in the Silicon Valley can't have the women gaining solidarity can they??

bellinisurge · 12/02/2020 10:45

@WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles , I'm in Mcr area and no fan of Burnham . I think he jumps on any bandwagon going to get elected. However, I'd take him as leader over any of these numpties if he were brave enough to align himself to common sense on biological sex.

Mockersisrightasusual · 12/02/2020 10:49

This really is a fork in the road for Labour, very Pythonesque in its manifestation of a sensible and a silly party in a slab of concrete.

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 12/02/2020 11:04

Labour and Momentum are playing the long game

They may not be elected next time, or even the time after next.

But ultimately the Tories will be more in so many debacles and scandals and an economic downturn (which happen periodically) that ONE DAY Labour will win, and what a party it will be for them then.

That’s their game.

bellinisurge · 12/02/2020 11:13

I want to ask my local Labour MP what his position is but I am scared that even asking would constitute a "hatecrime" and get me put on a list that local party activists have access to.
What a world they have created.

Justhadathought · 12/02/2020 11:15

Labour and Momentum are playing the long game

That's the fantasy ideal - yes - that everyone will finally see the light and be redeemed.

theflushedzebra · 12/02/2020 11:18

On Emily Thornberry - she's been far too busy visiting the Pink News office.

Who did she visit, I hear you ask?

Why it was that nice chap Benjamin Cohen - you know, the one who was on BBC's Politics Live, and shrugged and looked away when told about the women raped in prison by Karen White.

I wish I'd recorded it.
