Well that's disappointing, to say the least.

Keir Starmer has been merrily touting his support of GRA reform and trans rights too so that's another candidate that won't get my fucking vote

FloralBunting · 05/01/2020 21:52

Urgh, some of the dribbling arseholes on that thread, including one delightful character making much of of their wife being only too happy to stay with their fragrantly feminine self. And one particular line of argument that says "If you want to end the marriage because you're unhappy with a fundamental change to your marriage, go ahead. But you can't stop it, nur, nur!"

These are the kinds of people you're hitching your wagon to, Jess Phillips. For shame.

KatyCarrCan · 05/01/2020 21:52

They seem to be doing their damndest to make Labour unelectable. I've run out of sympathy with them.
Perhaps it is time for a new party that doesn't capitulate to bullies.

TiredofthisBS · 05/01/2020 21:56

When are labour going to realise that (outside their little Westminster bubble) that Identity politics is highly toxic and is going the way of the dodo. People are sick of it. They are truly unelectable.

birdsdestiny · 05/01/2020 21:59

Dear god. How can she do this with her background and experience. How can she.

littlbrowndog · 05/01/2020 22:10

Well she did. And will, keep, doing it.

Bye Jess and think on what you did.

But guess you won’t

LangCleg · 05/01/2020 22:19

Why is anyone even surprised? Jess doesn't have principles. She has ambitions. She's always been like this. At the moment, she's calculating that the LP membership is majority Woke (and she's quite likely right, given the membership surge when Corbyn became leader) and so Woke are her current principles. She'll have some new ones if they ever become more suitable, never thee fear.

She would be a disastrous leader anyway.

littlbrowndog · 05/01/2020 22:22

Sail on bye Jess.

We get you sell out women. We know you showed us

Fuckity bye

LangCleg · 05/01/2020 22:25

Oh, and don't be thinking about Starmer either. I'm sure he thinks allowing women to exit a marriage before its terms become fundamentally different are antithetical to "trans rights" too.

twitter.com/williamroney9/status/1213851098492133376

Really refreshing to hear Keir_Starmer in Stevenage today, championing trans rights and committing to protect them if elected. I hope the other candidates can do the same. #LabourLeadership

I think we can all now see quite how lukewarm the manifesto promise was, as man of us suspected. Transwidows won't be able to vote Labour in the forseeable future.

OhHolyJesus · 05/01/2020 22:26

Oh Lang not Starmer too. FFS.

TiredofthisBS · 05/01/2020 22:27

Shame Keir can't champion protecting women's rights.

NoSquirrels · 05/01/2020 22:28

That’s disappointing. Eurgh.

Binterested · 05/01/2020 22:29

They are all having to court the left like crazy just to get the leadership. Irony is, even with a more electable leader Labour will still be unelectable because the left still has a stranglehold. They need their Kinnock/Militant moment.

TinaBarrow · 05/01/2020 22:31

Labour is full of cunts of the first order like Jess & Kier. UK politics is a shitshow & we need a proper feminist party who are not afraid of being vilified by the woke establishment.

LangCleg · 05/01/2020 22:31

Oh Lang not Starmer too. FFS.

They're all competing for Labour membership votes, not the wider electorate. Even Lisa Nandy will not be saying anything in defence of women, I promise you.

It's the most ludicrous state of affairs I've ever seen. They're preparing to lose the next election.

JanesKettle · 05/01/2020 22:32

How disgusting is it that we live in times where 'courting the left' doesn't mean..idk..worker's rights or social housing or disability rights...but throwing women under the bus for the sake of AGP men.

Shame on Phillips.

FloralBunting · 05/01/2020 22:32

Can you imagine if the fuckers had got into power? All credit to the women that got the concessionary clause in the manifesto, but there's no way in hell this lot weren't going to push for the wokest of interpretations of it. Butler might have been a liability gobbing off about it, but she wasn't wrong. The party core is utterly woke, and the careerist prats trying to be leader have to win the 'hearts and minds' of the woke zombies who have neither, so tbh, any hope you might have had that the next Labour leader would say sensible things about women's rights is a pipe dream right now.

LangCleg · 05/01/2020 22:33

They are all having to court the left

The self-identified left, you mean! They're all LARPing. How can you be of the left if you don't recognise material reality? Materialism is what the actual left was built on.

birdsdestiny · 05/01/2020 22:33

Well they were never going to win the next election, in their current condition, maybe the one after that if they are very lucky.

AGnu · 05/01/2020 22:33

I joined the LP after the election with the vague notion of voting for her if I could. Now I have as many people I feel comfortable voting for as I did in the GE. Is spoiling a ballot a thing in leadership elections?! Maybe I'll just give up with the LP before I've even been a member for a month. I think they really are beyond saving. Sad

littlbrowndog · 05/01/2020 22:36

Yeah fuckity bye Labour

Not a clue. Still keep, bashing on with same old stuff

Not a clue still even though the election showed them what ordinary people thought

ButterflyRuns · 05/01/2020 22:39

She does my head in, so out of touch but nothing to worry about since the party won't elect her anyway. Does anyone really think the unions are Jess Phillips types?

LizzieSiddal · 05/01/2020 22:43

Ffs, has she been “stonewalled”?

I wonder if she’d be willing to meet with an actual women’s group?

OhHolyJesus · 05/01/2020 22:44

Can I burn JPs book now? I'm so furious I feel like an utter fool for believing her. She has seriously lost her way, if any of it was true.

LizzieSiddal · 05/01/2020 22:45

And I agree with Flora, can you imagine what would have happened to women's rights, if this lot had got in?
