"I went to board my flight today, having had my ESTA approved online. I have not been allowed to board because my ESTA has been withdrawn and nobody in the US Embassy or at Homeland security can give me a reason why. I have to apply to the embassy."

Even if harrop had no involvement in this, his "jokes" are completely inappropriate. Is he actually a real doctor? I would not feel comfortable with this man treating me or my child.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 19/11/2019 22:56

That's terrifying. Utterly chilling. As was the Kathleen Stock thread yesterday.

Dystopian fiction has been written that features less frightening and insidious methods of coercion, silencing and control than those exhibited on these two threads.

Seeing what happens to those who stand up and fight this stuff is sobering. One simple 'misstep' (in the activists' subjective view) and they won't be satisfied until they've completely destroyed that person's life by effectively silencing them, restricting their movements and ending their career. And it's working. People are seeing what's been happening to the people who have attempted to debate this issue openly, and intimidated a great many of them into silence.

And the authorities are complicit. It's unbelievable. And yet, sadly, entirely believable.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 19/11/2019 22:56

Excuse crap grammar. It's been a long day!

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 19/11/2019 23:03

Why are the authorities (in this case an embassy) helping individuals who appear to have personality disorders persecute whichever people are unfortunate enough to have been fixated on?

Carowiththegoodhair · 19/11/2019 23:18

Here’s what I suspect happened.

ESTA approved. I have confirmation on 6th November. Stalkers report me to the police for something or other and tip off embassy that I am being investigated. ESTA withdrawn.

Bobs your auntie and Fanny your uncle.

Truly woeful.

bettybeans · 19/11/2019 23:24

So technically anyone could report some random tweet as one of these vague 'hate crimes' and have an individual prevented from obtaining visas for travel? Wtf. If this is a new tactic it's an absolutely crazy one.

FloralBunting · 19/11/2019 23:30

It's an escalation, which is obviously being perpetrated by abusive nutjobs, but the fact that it is an escalation is laid squarely at the door of the authorities, who have acted in an outrageously lax manner while this behaviour was at a (relatively speaking) less intense pitch. They have essentially given the green light to these people that they may behave as they wish, and push further and further, and it's quite clear that escalation through even more boundaries was always going to happen.

OvaHere · 19/11/2019 23:35

Spot on Floral

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 19/11/2019 23:37

Yep, what Floral said. Indulging the urge to strike out at perceived enemies of vindictive people is a very bad idea, and we're now seeing what happens when those people get what they want the first time and become emboldened.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 20/11/2019 00:12

I will be writing again to the GMC tomorrow.

And, bizarrely, to Donald Trump Jnr.

AlunWynsKnee · 20/11/2019 00:22

I don't believe Caroline's views on abortion or religion are out of step with the Republican party's mainstream ideology. Or indeed legislation in the US. So it must be something else.

IWantADifferentName · 20/11/2019 00:32

Caro, do the police have to notify you that you are being investigated? If yes, do they have to do it within a specific time frame?

I am quite certain that you have been targeted and that this constitutes harassment. There is clearly a pattern of behaviour here designed to cause you distress or alarm. Would you be willing to report the harassment to the police and possibly seek a restraining order through the courts?

CaveMum · 20/11/2019 07:07

Don’t forget that there’s the Fair Cop hearing coming up shortly which will determine if thought crimes can be recorded on people’s records. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s connected to this as right now the police’s position is that hate crimes with no action taken are recorded, absolutely nothing to prevent false allegations being made and then noted.

teawamutu · 20/11/2019 07:22

Am wondering if this individual is banking on the GMC investigation never being able to finish...

PeterRouseTheFleshofMankind · 20/11/2019 07:40

So now of course, Harrop is claiming that of course he has nothing to do with it (what a ridiculous suggestion) and that is is of course a stock photo and of course he has been at work 200 miles away all day.

Which is more than likely true. But he just couldn't resist the opportunity for a hit of gaslighting could he? Posting about his 'important diplomatic business' on the same day that someone he has targeted numerous times because they have different views from him is stopped from travelling to America. Prick.

This very much reminds me of McKinnon's dancing on grave give when Magdalen Berns died, and then claiming that obviously it's to celebrate Friday 13th. Yeah right.

I have said it before but I have found this whole thing eye opening. I have never really been victim of any kind of abuse, control, gaslighting etc from the men in my life. To see exactly what it looks like in real life, in real time, from these people is such a revelation.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 20/11/2019 07:56

It definately shows a particular mindset.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 20/11/2019 08:10

The thought of Harrop being a GP is terrifying. He is just so gleeful in his gaslighting and bullying while thinking he's so subtle that no-one will notice what he is.

Can you imagine the damage he could do to vulnerable patients.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 20/11/2019 08:12

RE Harrop, is that not an admission that he's often less than honest? That being said (by him, not us, please note) why should anyone believe anything else he has to say?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 20/11/2019 08:13

And yes, "gleefully vindictive" is really not a quality that most people look for in their GP.

Thingybob · 20/11/2019 08:15

There is something seriously wrong with those men gloating and goading on Twitter. Even the founder and CEO of an anti bullying charity felt the need to laugh his arse off at Carolines expense.

OnlyTheTitOfTheIceberg · 20/11/2019 08:33

Some people may find this link useful. I will be using it myself later today.

WombOfOnesOwn · 20/11/2019 08:41

They do this to put radical feminists in a bind.

We can either abandon the women this happens to, and split a coalition, or we can stand up for the right of women to have political opinions (even ones we disagree with very much, even anti-feminist ones!) and be painted as in bed with the right wing.

It's one of those fun "woman-choices," where the dominant class has already created the choice-space, and any selection in it yields a way to dismiss us.

BarbaraStrozzi · 20/11/2019 08:47

That is a brilliant insight, Womb.

LangCleg · 20/11/2019 08:58

Absolutely this. Every play is straight from the domestic abuse handbook enacted on a societal scale.

IWorkAtTheCheescakeFactory · 20/11/2019 09:21

It terrifies me that this person (whether involved in the esta being revoked or not) is clearly totally surrounded by people both IRL and online who he is certain won’t have any issue with his tweets. He is so confident that he will face no consequences for those tweets that it tells me he won’t- why is that? They ALL agree with him? Does he have some immense dirt on lots of people? Is he the son of God??? Why is this person so absolutely certain that he is untouchable? He didn’t come to that conclusion alone.
