Right now

OP posts:

Helen Belcher and Sarah Brown, both LibDem, are prominent members of the Stonewall Trans-advisory board, indeed the only obvious politicos on the board now that LibDem Aimee Challenor has exited.

Perhaps Stonewall is that much closer to the LDs, as a smaller party without the blue collar or blue shire traditional support of either Labour or the Tories, so get to write their policy for them.

This comment I tweeted under the Today programme’s tweet:

Anyone who declares themselves a woman should be treated as a woman by law." Anyone? Convicted rapists, paedophiles? Perverts who want access to young girls in women's changings rooms? Anyone Luciana? If Jimmy Savile was alive would he be allowed to identify as a woman

Just got this response:-

CRIMINALS are criminals. Full stop. You really need to think about your language and logic. I feel my young trans daughter needs protecting from women like you. Imagine you had a young daughter, and random women on the were inciting hatred against her. Please stop

To which I replied:

I'm sorry you feel that way. My concern is purely for the safety of young women and girls from predatory men. Men who will use any means they can to get at their prey which we know they do. I've worked in child protection. I'm deeply hurt you think I am inciting hatred

Help me out here. Where is the hate in my original tweet, where? How am I inciting hatred?

I’m really upset about this. My concern is for young girls being targeted by men abusing self ID. I said nothing about trans.

I’m so fucking fed up of this shit. I’m just a fat Jewish auntie who wants to protect children and I get accused of inciting hatred!? WTAF!?

MockersthefeMANist · 14/11/2019 16:21

...How dare you suggest sweet Ms Karen White is not a proper lay-dee.

And how dare you suggest that all transwomen are predators.

(Which of course you are not, but that is the logic.)

birdsdestiny · 14/11/2019 16:22

Sarah brown is no longer in the lib dems. Not sure about Helen Belcher.
There was a bit of an exodus when some Tories defected to the lib dems.

paniquer · 14/11/2019 16:29

@Burru I'd help with that.

RedToothBrush · 14/11/2019 16:31

Helen Belcher is the LD prospective candidate for Chippenham.

Datun · 14/11/2019 16:35

MissLawls. You're not inciting hatred, of course. And saying you are is a tactic.

Ask them where is the hatred? Force them to tell you why objecting to predators in female prisons is inciting hatred.

They will say you are claiming all trans people are predators. And you just have to ask them, um where? Bat it back.

RedToothBrush · 14/11/2019 16:37

Greens have stood aside in Chippenham and i think its being regarded as a possible target, but I think its probably unlikely to go yellow.

The LDs were going to stand at least one other trans candidate in Caerphilly. Jasmine Sakura-Rose. But they have stood aside for Plaid there.

Needmoresleep · 14/11/2019 16:40

Birdsdestiny, I wonder.

There is a @SarahBrown1984 on twitter who is claiming to be a LibDem and retweeting stuff from Zoe O'Connell who claims to be too liberal for the LibDems, as well as lots of political stuff. I think that is her.

Perhaps the LibDems are too much fun to stay away from.

MissLawls · 14/11/2019 16:48

@Datun: MissLawls. You're not inciting hatred, of course. And saying you are is a tactic

Thanks. Horrible to deal with though.

Ask them where is the hatred? Force them to tell you why objecting to predators in female prisons is inciting hatred

I tried. I asked this person to follow me back so we could DM but she blocked me!

They will say you are claiming all trans people are predators. And you just have to ask them, um where? Bat it back

I tried but they refuse to engage. Person has a big Lib Dem banner on their Twitter profile.

RedToothBrush · 14/11/2019 16:48

Sheffield Hallam look like they have an interesting independent.

Liz Aspden has previous history with Jared O'Mara and doesn't think a lot of his record on women's rights.

She's standing on a woman's rights platform. It looks like she's gender critical but is getting a lot of 'transphobe' shouted at her.

MissLawls · 14/11/2019 16:51

And how dare you suggest that all transwomen are predators

(Which of course you are not, but that is the logic.)

They also say that people used to say that about gay men, which is true. They did. Claimed gay men were predators on young boys. They weren't. Straight men were and are! Same as now. It's straight men are the problem but they don't see that. Or they don't want to see it.

Thanks @MockersthefeMANist

TiredofthisBS · 14/11/2019 16:52

@MissLawls defending Women's rights is not hatred. I would suggest that the person stops trying to guilt you into thinking otherwise.

TiredofthisBS · 14/11/2019 16:55

@MissLawls apologies I missed the part where they refused to engage with you.

MissLawls · 14/11/2019 16:56

Thanks @TiredofthisBS but she's blocked me now. And possibly reported me to Twitter for hate speech. If so, I'm done for. I really wish I'd stayed away from it. I keep promising myself I will but then I get drawn back into by the sheer injustice of the thing. And the bullying. Two things I cannot stand are injustice and bullying! But you try to take a stand and you can often find yourself the victim of injustice and bullying!

RedToothBrush · 14/11/2019 16:57

List of trans and non binary candidates standing this election:
www.complicity.co.uk/blog/2019/11/general-election-2019-trans-and-non-binary-candidates/

The most interesting one on the list apart from Belcher is Sophie Cook who was Labour but dropped as the prospective candidate for Worthing East and Shoreham is standing as an independent there instead.

Datun · 14/11/2019 16:57

I tried but they refuse to engage.

It's a tactic that you will see repeated relentlessly, over and over and over.

Claim you're saying something you're not (a strawman argument), and then refuse to engage when you point that out.

Ignore, ignore, ignore.

Your sense of outrage will need to be parked. Because the only real argument is lies, and then no debate. It will happen every time.

Just look upon it as an acknowledgement that you are completely right.

TiredofthisBS · 14/11/2019 17:02

@MissLawls As Datun says subconsciously they know you are right that's why they have to block you. They don't want the bubble to be burst.

MissLawls · 14/11/2019 17:06

Thanks @TiredofthisBS and @Datun you're both quite right. I should've recognised the strawman! I've been party to much sealioning online over antisemitism I should've just blocked and moved on. (Sealioning, in case you don't know, is the insincere demand for evidence with absolutely no intention of taking it seriously. They just keep asking for more!)

Only I was following this person and thought she was okay! I'll have to tighten up my notifications on Twitter for a bit. Means I'll miss some responses but it might make life a bit easier!

RoyalCorgi · 14/11/2019 17:06

I asked this person to follow me back so we could DM but she blocked me!

To be blunt, these people are morons. They don't engage because they don't have a single coherent argument. To say that the problem with self-ID is that it will encourage sexually predatory men to identify as women is a perfectly simple, clear, easy-to-understand objection, and it in no way vilifies trans people. The reason TRAs get so angry about it is because they know it's true and they can't argue against it. Thus their only response is to a) call you a transphobe b) block you so they don't have to listen to rational argument.

TRAs really are the most pathetic, useless activist group in history.

RoyalCorgi · 14/11/2019 17:10

Ah yes, the very mature Sophie Cook:

Needmoresleep · 14/11/2019 17:15

RTB, the Brexit party had two: Jessica Swift and Rachel Warby. Did they both fall foul of the decision to withdraw Brexit candidates from Tory seats, or does Zoe not count them?

Despite the obvious trans support, I suspect that Farage will be in no hurry to follow the LibDem lead in saying he does not welcome GC women.

RedToothBrush · 14/11/2019 17:27

Did they both fall foul of the decision to withdraw Brexit candidates from Tory seats

Yes.

Zoe does mention them in the small print under the confirmed candidates.

Obviously nobody has to take my word for it but Lis Aspden is absolutely sound and deserving of support.
