Tom Watson and the fantasist also springs to mind

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 14/11/2019 07:40

Yes I was thinking about him too... my mum had an amazing radar for people why were ‘up to no good’.

She tagged many of the people who later popped up in Yewtree etc and seemed to be able to sniff out ill Intent.

She would have people that she couldn’t watch on tv or read about in the newspapers. She didn’t always say but we knew that she had some reason.

When kids we thought she was just being a bit bonkers but now we see that she was pretty accurate and could predict outcomes of behaviour too.

PrettyShiningPeople · 14/11/2019 07:43

I heard it this morning too.
The Lib Dem’s haven’t a flipping clue.
They clearly haven’t really grasped this issue. What else have they misunderstood?

Our constituency candidate made some very dodgy sexist comments earlier this year, so they were already treading a fine line, but they’ve officially lost my vote.

BovaryX · 14/11/2019 07:43

Trewser, Tom Watson. Just incredible. People lost their homes and jobs because of the fantasist he promoted and amplified. Contemptible

Trewser · 14/11/2019 07:46

I listened to one of the accused on the radio a few weeks ago and it brought tears to my eyes. Poor old bloke. Tom Watson must have been high on his own supply. Idiot.

MrsSnippyPants · 14/11/2019 07:49

Well that was an utter shitshow. She clearly has no grasp on the facts of competing rights and would not even acknowledge that competition exists.
Completely out of her depth, and in my opinion a liar if she is denying any knowledge of that email exchange.
The LibDems should be nowhere near government, they are clearly in thrall to TRAs and lack the ability to think critically.
Can you imagine them negotiating anything with anyone?!
They must fall for scammers every bloody day.

BovaryX · 14/11/2019 07:49

People jump on bandwagons and back any pony they think will help them get ahead (and don’t care if they damage people along the way) and are rehabilitated/wait until people forget.

Lordprof, I think that’s absolutely true and what is even more frustrating is that the media just field soft ball questions and let politicos trot out nonsense

birdsdestiny · 14/11/2019 07:51

That's what happens when people who are not liberal Democrats join the liberal Democrats. The centrist labour lot who have jumped ship are centre left, they have made the mistake of thinking that the Lib Dems are centre left and they couldn't be more wrong. Being a Lib Dem is a specific mindset.
Anyone listening that who didn't know a great deal about the subject would have only been aware of a politician utterly out of their depth and flailing.

BovaryX · 14/11/2019 07:51

Trewser, it really is such a sordid awful business. Can you imagine the howls of outrage from the press if the political parties of accused and Tom Watson were reversed?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 14/11/2019 07:52

I remember when this started coming out. It was when the ‘misery memoirs’ were being sold like hot cakes (and family members shouting ‘what??? All fantasy!’).

We were talking about this at home and I remember distinctly having the discussion that it all sounded very suspicious and too fantastic. Yes I know that such things happen but the stories, facts, memories, names... it just didn’t ‘feel’ right. I can not believe that the police didn’t check missing children or the supposed ‘murders’ or even his school records. They were so keen to believe.

I also remember he satanic child abuse rings.

How why are these things allowed to happen - and yet a teacher in the family noted that he has had kids on his class that he has had to beg SS to get involved as he genuinely believed that they were in danger of their lives (and he is a very level headed and experienced teacher).

OllyBJolly · 14/11/2019 07:53

I thought Nick Robinson was very good - the language he used and the example of the refused membership suggests he's done his homework on this. Luciana Berger was dire - trotted out the "inclusive" buzzwords and gave no substance to her views.

Trewser · 14/11/2019 07:54

I know. My dsis, who is a corbynite, stopped just short of saying that they were rich old c*s who would be fine anyway due to their privilege - well, she actually did say that but then realised that she had to distance herslef from TW as he's not a corbyn fan, so fudged it

BovaryX · 14/11/2019 07:54

Lordprof, yes, I agree it sounded like a parody of something out of a Dennis Wheatley novel....

nauticant · 14/11/2019 07:58

She clearly has no grasp on the facts of competing rights and would not even acknowledge that competition exists.

You could almost hear the thinking: "TWAW. Anything that challenges this is forbidden thought".

EvaHarknessRose · 14/11/2019 08:01

I shouted liar at the radio when she said she wasn't aware of the email too - it has been widely publicised so I doubt that.

LiterallyProblematic · 14/11/2019 08:07

Nick Robinson v good. Luciana Berger was incoherent. Shame it couldn't have been longer.

Macareaux · 14/11/2019 08:08

Nicks follow up Q should have been "but gay rights don't compete with anyone else's rights, do they?"

This whole "as a society we were on the wrong side of history on homosexuality and were not going to make that mistake with gender identity" shit needs a serious challenge.

LiterallyProblematic · 14/11/2019 08:09

In fairness she was incoherent before she started on the equalities madness. Wtf is it will 'loveliest' candidate etc? Such low level politicking. Her only argument seems to be vote for a nice PM.

Rachelsfatarse · 14/11/2019 08:09

Bravo Nick Robinson. The more this bollocks is talked about in the mainstream, the more is pisses off the general public.
12 months ago I’d be terrified of talking about this, now I don’t care and everyone I speak to is horrified that someone’s feelings are put above the rights of the majority.

BovaryX · 14/11/2019 08:12

Luciana Berger repeatedly insists that these are not ‘competing’ rights despite Robinson giving crystal clear examples. Denials, waffle, ineptitude. What a woeful, craven performance

TeaAndStrumpets · 14/11/2019 08:13

Fekko, I am old and bear grudges, it's like an Olympic sport for me. I never respected Harriet Harman after the PIE business.

There are plenty of politicians on my shit list these days Grin

birdsdestiny · 14/11/2019 08:18

She just doesn't believe it or just doesn't care. Does she know she is campaigning in favour of prostitution, does she know she is in a party that fought against age verification for porn. I can't believe she holds these views about women. But the thought that she doesn't believe and is holding her nose is even worse. She has jumped from a party with underlying anti semitism to one with an underlying misogyny. To be fair to her after what happened to Change UK, where could you go if you wanted to maintain a career in politics.

TimeLady · 14/11/2019 08:18

Yeh, Harriet Harman not getting voted in as the new Speaker made my day Grin

BovaryX · 14/11/2019 08:18

I think what is really good about this interview, brief though it was, is that Robinson explicitly states that these are competing rights and the elevation of one group is to the detriment of the other. Berger’s response was denial, but let’s hope the detriment point keeps being made.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 14/11/2019 08:27
