Right now

OP posts:

Nick Robinson is a proper grown up journalist who knows how to ask difficult questions of both sides.

LB’s responses sound really disappointing.

BuckingFrolics · 14/11/2019 08:27

What an utter pile of crap she spouted. Waffly, and weak waffle at that. I had been thinking I'd vote LD but it's a no - in fact it's a Fuck, No, from me. Labour it is.

JellyfishAndShells · 14/11/2019 08:31

We were canvassed two nights ago by the Lib Dems, who I have supported in the past so am on their lists as supportive and and probably willing to put a window poster up. The party worker introduced herself and then introduced the new candidate ( the sitting LB MP is standing down) They went straight into ways in which I could help but I interrupted by asking if I could just clarify a few points about safeguarding women’s spaces etc.,.

Utter confusion and then hostility ‘ fairness, inclusivity, tolerance blah, blah’ No understanding about my very mild query, dismissive saying the urgent concerns were stopping Brexit and stopping the Tories. All came to a sudden stop as they decided to cut their losses with me as I was obviously not going to be useful.

Both party worker and candidate women, btw.

The replies under this bbc tweet are a treat.

The one thing he didn't say is that under self id you can say you are a woman without any surgery.

Most people do NOT relaise this, and when they hear trans they think sex change op

MsTSwift · 14/11/2019 08:35

Wish NR was in power.

thecompletenonsequitur · 14/11/2019 08:37

The one thing he didn't say is that under self id you can say you are a woman without any surgery.

But he did say, so I can just announce I’m a woman and the law will treat me as one.

Trewser · 14/11/2019 08:40

But i dont think the majority understand that means what he said! My MIL still assumed they would have had a sex change operation!

Burru · 14/11/2019 08:42

I’m in Jo Swinson’s constituency- seriously considering leaflet dropping extracts from Jenni Russell’s excellent Times article.

So utterly depressing.

CherryPavlova · 14/11/2019 08:42

There absolutely shouldn’t be a hierarchy of equality - rather an oxymoron - all people were born and will die equal. What there also shouldn’t be is a game of equality Top Trumps with one person’s wishes dominating another’s needs based on a protected characteristic.

MarshaBradyo · 14/11/2019 08:43

Hearing her say yes to that question and the sprite / coke ad is making me feel so bulldozed

MockersthefeMANist · 14/11/2019 08:43

Ooooh, she flunked that.

Now bring on Layla. (got me on my knees...)

BovaryX · 14/11/2019 08:55

Hilarious. The fact this craven, newspeak mediocrity gets a political courage award? What precisely has she done that’s courageous?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 14/11/2019 09:03

Is she a plant? A fifth columnist perhaps? Tory or Russian mole?

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 14/11/2019 09:13

Nick Robinson has done great work on this

The BBC does still employ some excellent journalists. It's why even when I'm at my most misanthropic 'the BBC are a complete biased shit show' level, I still keep paying my licence fee

Berger is not a Lib Dem is she? as someone perceptively said upthread, she thought they were just centre leftists. Shows rather a worrying lack of political understanding

Pepvixen · 14/11/2019 09:14

To be fair, she faced down terrible antisemitic attacks in the labour party. And she was brave in being one of the first change uk mps. But on this she has been terrible.

Lumene · 14/11/2019 09:23

Yes agree she has been courageous in other political areas.

AlwaysTawnyOwl · 14/11/2019 09:33

What a car crash. It just shows that they have not, and do not want to, think through the issues.

Uncompromisingwoman · 14/11/2019 09:39

Take a look at that Twitter thread that FlamingoAndJohn shared - the number of men calling this out suggests a recent real shift in people being prepared to speak out?

Trewser · 14/11/2019 10:12

And yet...if i identify as a man, i still don't get to overthrow primogeniture.

Trewser · 14/11/2019 10:13

The fact that primogeniture is an exception shows me unequivocally that this whole movement is rooted in misogyny.
