People generally aren't totally stupid if given all the facts they draw their own conclusions about people and motives.

SimplyTheWorst · 17/10/2019 20:22

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis If it's somewhere that sounds the complete opposite of feminism and far right views, how is that helping women?

You miss the point completely! PP's focus is children [you know, those humans across the world who are aged under 18 years?]

PP does not focus on women in most of her activism.

What activism she does that involves women involves creating space for lesbians to ensure they have a platform to speak and share their perspectives.

So, PP is focused on those who have the least voice to speak for themselves.

That is, children and lesbians.

If you haven't grasped this by now, after all this time, you most definitely have not been listening in any way at all.

zebrasdontwearbras · 17/10/2019 20:24

Wotcha - So? Report his channel then.

But you know - silencing abhorrent views rarely works. It can often have the opposite effect of drawing more attention to them.

I refer you to the Streisand Effect. And to the horrific historian David Irving at the Oxford Union, as examples - making a fuss about someone appearing draws more attention to it.

On the other hand - Question Time was criticised for allowing Nick Griffin on the panel - and yet look at the results. His appearance pretty much wiped his political party off the map. Because people saw what a racist he was, in his own words.

DuMondeB · 17/10/2019 20:25

YouTube ‘demonetize’ videos all the time, which is why almost everyone who creates potentially contentious content has a Patreon account or a

They do it to people on the right and left including some LGBT content creators - basically, anyone mainstream advertisers might not like:

So I doubt this chap is making any money out of Posie.

See, I can see that too. "Silencing" views never a good way, as you say just gets more people wondering what all the fuss is about.
I just know, for me, it sounds like a channel and views there's no chance I want to go and visit, and I was just a bit baffled why others, on a feminism board, who usually stand for women's rights, would happily visit the channel if some of his views against women are like people say it is?
I appreciate everyone's different though, I just know it's somewhere I could never stand comfortably.

TequilaPilates · 17/10/2019 20:34

SimplyTheWorst

So does the end justify the means then?

She supports children and lesbians so it's ok to throw women and people of colour under the bus in the process?

And, honestly, how many of the people who watch his videos do you think really care about anything that she had to say?

If she wants to get the message out there why not start her own channel? Why piggyback onto someone like this?

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 17/10/2019 20:34

Posie's facial expressions said she thought he was a twat even though there's a couple of views they shared

OK, interested now - for someone who's watched the video, to someone who wants to but isn't giving more traffic, what are the couple of views they share with each other? Genuinely want to know.
I'm fairly sure one of them will be trans issues, seeing as that's why she's on the video? but what else do they agree with?

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 17/10/2019 20:35

I don't think a lot of forums userhave, just this thread alone can tell you a bit about Posie's current popularity and board interest in this video.
First it's not posted by a regular, if it was a popular subject, it would have been posted 2 or 3 times in the first day, secondly look at how many different posters are on the thread, just a handful, again a subject with a lot of interest draws in a lot more users.

Sometimes it helps standing back and looking at things like this.

SimplyTheWorst · 17/10/2019 20:37

I just know it's somewhere I could never stand comfortably.

That's OK. Your perspective is yours alone.

No-one is suggesting you should be comfortable with PP.

And, if that is the case, perhaps you should avoid all outputs from this particular activist for children and for lesbians whose voices are distinctly the most minority voices in this current political climate?

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 17/10/2019 20:37

just a handful

And out of those posting only a few have actually watched the video.

zebrasdontwearbras · 17/10/2019 20:38

The thing I found most appalling about Gariepy was his overt anti-semitism after Posie had left the interview. Like posie said, his MRA views are just that - a by-the-book MRA checklist really. No different from Sargon of Akkad and any number of MRAs with a YT channel. Pretty abhorrent, but nothing I couldn't provide a rebuttal to, and back it up with facts and statistics.

But the anti-semitism - that's hardly just a far right thing, now, is it?

There is some appalling and jaw-dropping anti-semitism in Momentum and the Labour Party - including the deselection of Jewish MPs and actual holocaust denial on their forums. Perhaps nobody should 'rub shoulders with' anyone in Labour?

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 17/10/2019 20:40

That's sounding an awful lot like whataboutery - can't we be concerned about both this issue and anti semitism too?
It's not an either or.

zebrasdontwearbras · 17/10/2019 20:43

Oh, and what's happened to Sargon of Akkad (Carl Benjamin) since he came off his Youtube channel, and into the real political world? He showed the world who he was, with his vile rape jokes and misogynistic bullying of female MP Jess Phillips.

Let's just say, nothing very good has happened to him since Grin Pretty sure he's persona non grata now.

SimplyTheWorst · 17/10/2019 20:44

That's sounding an awful lot like whataboutery - can't we be concerned about both this issue and anti semitism too?

Ooh! What a derail!

Maybe avoid attempting to associate PP with antisemitism?

Are you yet another serious trouble-maker, "Wotcha*?

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 17/10/2019 20:47

Ooh! What a derail!

How do you figure that one out when it's YOU who brought in other subjects like anti semitism?
It does sound like whataboutery and we can be concerned about more than one thing, fling out your "troublemaking" bollocks if it means it's easier to insult than to actually think though.

zebrasdontwearbras · 17/10/2019 20:48

Drawing comparisons between the right wing and the left wing is not whataboutery.

You were specifically framing this as a criticism of feminists collaborating with the rightwingers - well, it's on the leftwingers side too.

Perhaps we should talk with nobody at all...

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 17/10/2019 20:51

Sorry, was Zebras - Zebras is the one who brought in the anti semitism and Labour
And it does sound like whataboutery, so take the post up with zebras if you think it's derailing to answer to it or question it?

I totally get PPs expression of protecting women and children but I cannot find anything in her bio about protecting young female girls from female genital mutilation performed abroad and here in the UK performed by women against young females
Or is that different in PPs opinions as it’s violence by women against women

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 17/10/2019 20:51

Cross posted with zebras

zebrasdontwearbras · 17/10/2019 20:51

Don't be ridiculous - JF Gariepy was being racist/anti-semitic on the video that posie was on - but after she had left the chat. That's why we're talking about it.

Why don't you watch the bloody video if you're going to discuss it?

zebrasdontwearbras · 17/10/2019 20:52

Allison10 - now that's whataboutery. Thanks for demonstrating.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 17/10/2019 20:53

I definitely agree that we should stop talking to the filibusters, not that that's a hint or anything...

Oh, give over.
It's called a difference of opinion.
We have every right to voice our opinion too.
All this "wahh, filibusterer" "wah derailers" if you hear something you don't like is fucking stupid.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 17/10/2019 20:55

Why don't you watch the bloody video if you're going to discuss it?

Find a way to link to it that doesn't directly give benefit to him and I will.
