Ideas for what we can do:

Theatres etc - go up to box office loudly asking 'where are the ladies'?' again and again as loudly as you can so the representative has to keep repeating the answer - if you're in a group, take it in turns for variety.

Ring an offending restaurant and book a table for six. Then ask 'I assume you have separate men's and women's loos?' then when they say no, say 'ah no, that doesn't work for us. I'll cancel that and we'll book at (name bitterest rival restaurant that does have separate loos) instead'. Get everyone you know to do it. Make sure you've blocked your number.

Come out of cubicle with full moon cup and wash it out in front of any men present (just pray they're not menophiliac).

Stickers. Lots of stickers.

Learn the statistics so you can recite the evidence of sexual assaults in mixed space etc etc whenever you're contradicted. 'In fact, Home Office statistics show that xx% ... ' etc.

Train your daughters to understand why we are saying no and to have the confidence to speak out. And your sons, too.

My friend once opened the unlocked door of a train toilet to find a chap furiously wanking in there.

Ereshkigal · 04/10/2019 11:50

Incidentally, I have found a useful sticker alternative is a nice clean slimline sanitary liner. Easy to sharpie or biro with a snappy message and a link to further info, self adhesive and particularly good for adding a touch of ‘biological reality’ to mixed sex toilets.

Fantastic idea.

TruthOnTrial · 04/10/2019 11:52

I had also meant to say, that these same mental disorder paraphelias, are the very same ones being promoted by the Warwickshire cc to educate all their school dc on from age 13+, another thread on FWR, which really crosses over with this.

Ereshkigal · 04/10/2019 11:54

Yes that occurred to me too, TruthonTrial

TruthOnTrial · 04/10/2019 12:02

What IS the line from the EA10 thats been broken here.

I think thats important to be stating loudly, as I don't think many realise their rights are being broken in law.

No we dont need to block loos, or further increase the environmental load, but the messaged stickies are a great idea, and the loud questionning.

We should be sharing any we see via pics on here!

TheChampagneGalop · 04/10/2019 12:15

Using a sanitary liner to write on is a great idea.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 04/10/2019 12:19

What about stickers for the normal men who are oblivious?

They don't want shared facilities either. Maybe wake them up?

"hey you, man weeing. Did you know there are predatory men campaigning to be let into the women's loos, because they say they "feel" like a woman? Are you happy about that for your wife, daughter, mother? [LINK for more info]"

That sort of thing, but with more than a second's thought behind it.

Ereshkigal · 04/10/2019 12:50

What IS the line from the EA10 thats been broken here.

There is no obligation to provide separate facilities in theatres etc but service providers are required not to harass people on the grounds of sex by creating a hostile environment for them. It could be argued (though outcome not guaranteed) that forcing women to share toilets with men is harassment, given the amount of sexual harassment women face and our different toilet needs. It would depend on the circumstances and what the experience of female users was. If they are floor to ceiling doors then this is more likely to be seen as acceptable.

The other issue is the sex discrimination of providing an unequal number of facilities for women and men. Men can use all the facilities. Women are only likely to use the cubicles which are not with urinals, and highly unlikely to use the urinals themselves.

TheAlternativeTentacle · 04/10/2019 13:48

nina myskov saying she feels vulnerable in the loos with men- but not transwomen

Its because of the MAGIC WORDS THEY SAY.

Oh come on Nina, don't be a virtue signalling arse.

WomanBornNotWorn · 04/10/2019 13:49

It was on Classic FM news this morning. I expect their audience is likely to be theatre goers too.

OP posts:
Helmetbymidnight · 04/10/2019 13:49

i genuinely think she hasnt thought that through- the language she used was ...confused.

Datun · 04/10/2019 13:49

nina myskov saying she feels vulnerable in the loos with men- but not transwomen

Except the theatre aren't limiting it to tw. It's all men.

MrsSnippyPants · 04/10/2019 13:50

Jeremy Vine missing the point as usual.....

Helmetbymidnight · 04/10/2019 13:52

yeah he just wanted to talk about the she-wee. Hmm

there was a lot of 'this is the future' stuff too.

Helmetbymidnight · 04/10/2019 13:54

oh caller thinks 'its bang on, cracking idea, men will up their game,'Confused

Helmetbymidnight · 04/10/2019 13:55

another caller is talking about hand-washing...

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 04/10/2019 14:05

What about the loos that have breastfeeding areas/chairs. Some women want a space where they can breastfeed/express away from everyone. They won't want to use a mixed sex loo will they?

LizzieSiddal · 04/10/2019 15:24

So we had a man telling us that all these loos open out into a corridor.Hmm

Did anyone catch the name of the organisation he represented? He said they advise councils up and down the countryAngry

Helmetbymidnight · 04/10/2019 15:54

i didnt - and cant stand to listen again!

was he the one who did the preamble about all the mixed toilets in the home? i think he is a contractor/builder/designer who is keen on 'the way of the future' as a sales pitch.
