Yay to double the loos - cos queueing for the ladies in the interval is a right faff
But, what, no actual ladies loos? - NO ACTUAL WOMEN ONLY LOOS
twitter.com/oldvictheatre/status/1179336786537005057 - thread
"The Old Vic @oldvictheatre
Our loos now offer ‘self-selection’ rather than being labelled male or female. This takes a descriptive, rather than prescriptive, approach following advice from surveys conducted with focus groups."

This type of brother me these days...

www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/news/crime/police-appeal-after-secret-camera-discovered-in-toilet-of-west-yorkshire-costa-coffee-1-10038306

Unisex loo...

AutumnRose1 · 07/10/2019 19:26

I'd be interested to know what the queues are like at the Old Vic.

I was there during the refurb, I thought it seemed too good to be true but then there were so many signs up about women's toilets, I thought perhaps it was true and that I'd just become paranoid.

NeurotrashWarrior · 07/10/2019 19:31

Another perspective I've accidentally stumbled on:

(I've just noticed a weird thing; followed the link to the Sarah Ditum thread where I have 50 likes for a tweet I did in the thread on my own twitter app. Only 7 on the Internet. Is that de boosting?! Jesus!)

NeurotrashWarrior · 07/10/2019 19:32

So yeah basically a new fancy loo for men.

BeMoreMagdalen · 07/10/2019 19:52

Well yes, this is the interesting thing for me - seeing trans activists decrying the mixed sex toilet provision. They've actually been at the forefront of using it as an argument to belittle women demanding single sex spaces. But now it's actually happened, there's a growing clamour from TRAs like Willoughby and others who want the sex separation to remain because they want to be able to use it. Obviously, when they do, it becomes mixed sex anyway, but as with so much, this is about maintaining the outward illusion to bolster the ephemeral feelings. In that sense, the Enbys and the Trans activists are on the same page. It's all about feelings. Theirs, natch.

AutumnRose1 · 07/10/2019 20:00

"Well yes, this is the interesting thing for me - seeing trans activists decrying the mixed sex toilet provision"

Oh right, I'm guessing you know some of the Tweeters pretty well then.

DodoPatrol · 07/10/2019 20:12

Well, being trans is India W’s main selling point, so you hardly need to be a best mate to know that.

NeurotrashWarrior · 07/10/2019 20:37

Original article

https://sarahditum.com/

Really can't work out the hate here; a few woken folk have announced on twitter that they didn't even bother reading it when they saw it was by Ditum.Hmm

BeMoreMagdalen · 07/10/2019 20:46

Autumn, I don't follow your point. It might tiredness on my part, or you might be attempting snark. If you have something to say, feel free to make it a bit plainer, I'm not really fussed with clever clever shite this evening.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 07/10/2019 20:47

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD

That article about the man and the hidden camera in Costa Coffee - it was found in October 2018. It has taken West Yorkshire Police nearly a year to publish the photo - apparently they have been making 'extensive enquiries'. They never fail to under deliver do they?

AutumnRose1 · 07/10/2019 21:00

BeMoreMagdalen

I don't do snark.

I thought you were saying there were differing responses than what you were expecting from particular Tweeters, and I thought that you meant you were familiar with sone of the Tweeters, which I'm not.

Once again, I'm probably not clever enough to engage on this board. I have no idea why you'd think I was snarking, I was just confused.

Popchyk · 07/10/2019 21:22

"It has taken West Yorkshire Police nearly a year to publish the photo - apparently they have been making 'extensive enquiries'. They never fail to under deliver do they?"

But don't worry, they're up for an award at Pink News.

NeurotrashWarrior · 07/10/2019 22:00

Crossed wires I think autumn, and don't you dare think you're not clever enough to post here!

I only have a few brain cells on Monday's if I've remembered my thyroxine.

BeMoreMagdalen · 07/10/2019 22:22

Clearly crossed wires, as I said, I'm very tired after a full day at work, travel and then doing all the extra woman shit at home. No offence meant, Autumn, pax.

Sadly, I'm reasonably familiar with the Trans activists on Twitter, yes, and one of the points of interest to me was how the Enby (Non binary) activism seems to be at odds with other powerful bits of the Trans movement. So you have male bodied people (clunky phrase used under protest, but we know who I mean) complaining that mixed sex toilets deprive them of access to 'female single sex spaces', because it's a big part of their validation as 'real women'. Whereas another time, they would use the idea of 'gender neutral' as a stick to poke women with if we dared to suggest that we need actual single sex provision.

It's basically an illustration that the entire trans movement is a 'heads I win, tails you lose' proposition for women.

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 07/10/2019 22:55

I only have a few brain cells on Monday's if I've remembered my thyroxine

Same

VictoriaSpongeAndTea · 09/10/2019 20:13

Has anyone had a reply from the Old Vic?

happydappy2 · 10/10/2019 08:24

I had a good phone conversation with a male manager at the Old Vic, outlining how their ‘inclusive’ policy was in reality Excluding women of particular faiths, women who need single sex toilet provision due to previous sexual assault, and all women who just don’t want to share toilets with men. I explained how it’s just not safe for young girls to enter mixed sex bathrooms etc etc. He was definitely on the back foot and had no real argument in favour of the re design, other than they were trying to be inclusive.....he did ask that I email over my concerns as management are having an ongoing discussion about this....so I’ve emailed every day this week and had no response. But I think it’s really important we keep the pressure up, so other venues know women will not accept mixed sex toilet provision.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 10/10/2019 08:42

Inclusive of who? Are they wheelchair friendly? Do they have Braille? What about patrons who have claustrophobia/autism/arthritis...

‘Inclusive of men who want to pee with the girls’, more like...

Popchyk · 10/10/2019 11:02

Witch hunt of the day: Sarah Ditum

A group of freelance writers has signed a letter to The Stage, stating that Sarah Ditum should be no-platformed.

"We ask that The Stage make a commitment to, at the very least, avoiding commissioning any journalists who lean on anti-trans rhetoric and speak to the views of an aggressive and bigoted minority".

They cannot provide any evidence of transphobia from Sarah Ditum of course.

twitter.com/B_Kulvichit/status/1181963943012716544

David Aaronovitch and Hadley Freeman raising their eyebrows on that thread.

ShouldBeCookingDinner · 10/10/2019 11:15

I don't remember seeing any TRA calling for mixed sex spaces...as far as I can tell, they wanted single sex but to use the ones of their choice. This is social engineering, noone asked for it.

ArcheryAnnie · 10/10/2019 11:36

I see Tim Minchin - who normally I quite like - has weighed in on this, got his arse handed back to him, and deleted his tweets. We should all just celebrate the OV as they have made a "small error in signage" and we should get over it.

I am so sick of right-on men who don't have any knowledge of the subject, and who effectively tell women that we are making a fuss about things that concern our own safety, and then act all wounded when we refuse to submit.

IsadoraQuagmire · 10/10/2019 11:51

I had my posts deleted on a theatre forum (discussing loos in theatres) for saying that it's impossible for humans to change sex, non binary is a load of nonsense (as most people don't fit every stereotype of their biological sex)
and that women don't want men infiltrating their spaces.

Since I'm 100% right and they're pathetically woke sycophants, my opinion of them couldn't be lower now Grin

SunsetBeetch · 11/10/2019 07:41

Tim Minchin did seem to sort of get it in the end.

" 'Women died for the vote... now we're not allowed to use the loo!': Actress Frances Barber slams Old Vic theatre's new gender-neutral toilets by likening move to sacrifice of suffragettes"

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7550023/amp/Actress-Frances-Barber-slams-Old-Vic-Theatres-new-gender-neutral-toilets.html?ito=amp_twitter_share-top&__twitter_impression=true

MouthyHarpy · 11/10/2019 10:45

Frances Barber is a wonderful actor and a fantastic feminist and really worth a follow on Twitter.

AryaStarkWolf · 11/10/2019 10:51

Tim Minchin did seem to sort of get it in the end.

I missed that and his tweet is gone now, did he actually agree that women had a point or what happened?
