Yay to double the loos - cos queueing for the ladies in the interval is a right faff
But, what, no actual ladies loos? - NO ACTUAL WOMEN ONLY LOOS

"The Old Vic @oldvictheatre
Our loos now offer ‘self-selection’ rather than being labelled male or female. This takes a descriptive, rather than prescriptive, approach following advice from surveys conducted with focus groups."

Seems like we need to start stickering again

Rubicon80 · 02/10/2019 23:26

I've emailed them about this. Shocking. I work in the sector & there is a lot of it about sadly (I can think of several other London theatres that have done this, mostly fringe or slightly more alternative venues - it's becoming very common).

DontLookBackIntoTheSun · 02/10/2019 23:40

This photo seems appropriate - from a toilet in Crete

It's difficult to believe, when the solution is so, so easy.

Toilets for men, more toilets for women, and some gender neutral ones for people who want that.

It's such an easy solution. You actually can please everybody.

VictoriaSpongeAndTea · 03/10/2019 10:51

Interesting whilst my oh understands my concerns it's the prospect of women having to walk past him at urinals and his embarrassment that has got him riled up enough to be contemplating actually complaining. Pure self interest Hmm

However it's clear we need to make sharing toilets as uncomfortable for normal men as it is for women for anything to change. Loud requests for sanitary products, giving them the once over as we walk past the urinals. Not trying to hide the blood on our hands as we go to the sink after changing sanitary products.

WomanBornNotWorn · 04/10/2019 13:22

Oh look - the Old Vic are open to feedback!! (Flexes typing fingers ... )

they only answer fawning responses

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 04/10/2019 13:38

They are not open to hearing all views.

LenoVentura · 04/10/2019 13:40

It's on JV show now.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 04/10/2019 13:42

JV? Whose that?

littlecabbage · 04/10/2019 13:56

Jeremy Vine?

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 04/10/2019 14:14

I caught the JV show. Deeply disappointing. The guy from the British Toilet Association really didn't like people disagreeing with him.

As for the caller who suggested it might help men to up their game, I have no words.

AncientLights · 04/10/2019 15:20

I didn't hear any comments: thought they'd put it on at the end of the show precisely to avoid them. Men 'up their game'??? What in fuck's name does that mean? Jesus. But interesting that the Toilet Association man said Old Vic hadn't consulted them. And then his utterly stupid comment about toilets at home being 'unisex. Aargh!

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 04/10/2019 15:21

Maybe they didn't know there was a Toilet Association?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 04/10/2019 15:30

Interesting. The BTA does not state that campaigning for unisex toilets is part of its remit... In fact they specifically state one of their objectives is to

To campaign for the provision of an adequate number of facilities for women, in relation to the number of facilities provided for men

Ereshkigal · 04/10/2019 15:33

Why do so many idiots continue to make this easily ridiculed asinine riposte?

vaginafetishist · 04/10/2019 15:35

Eresh, they are the same people who point that male attendants clean women's toilets and everyone is fine with that.Hmm

AnyOldPrion · 04/10/2019 15:37

Well yes, but theoretically the Old Vic has provided plenty of facilities for women. The fact that practically many women don’t feel this is an acceptable solution is by the by.

And... really, why the fuck didn’t they get a woman from the British Toilet Association? This is once again, women’s rights issue being debated by men.

Ereshkigal · 04/10/2019 15:43

Eresh, they are the same people who point that male attendants clean women's toilets and everyone is fine with that

I'm sure. What's next on the bingo card, "what about lesbians"?

IsadoraQuagmire · 04/10/2019 15:58

They discussed it on Vanessa Feltz' BBC Radio London show this morning too. She spoke to two people. I didn't catch the name of the first one but they had a man's voice (didn't say anything worth hearing) then; an actual woman who made some good points, but not anywhere near as angrily I would have made them.
I can't imagine why people are being even remotely tolerant about this. I told the Old Vic what I thought of them on Twitter! Grin

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 04/10/2019 16:37

The BTA chap seemed convinced that "gender neutral toilets" were the future and was confident that the were the solution to lack of provision for females.

If the Old Vic had consulted him, he'd presumably tell them what a marvellous job the chaps had done.

vaginafetishist · 04/10/2019 16:38

what about lesbians"?
Ooh yes you got me there. So feeble

AccioWine · 04/10/2019 17:16

There is a poll on Twitter about this by Theatremusings. It currently stands at 93% against. Interesting. But not surprising. Not that the Old Vic will take any notice of the complaints.
