Jolyon Maugham QC comes out as a misogynist on Twitter

After posting this tone-deaf tweet, Maugham doubles down when asked by women to consider fairness and safety of female rugby players. What can make an adult, intelligent person pretend they do not understand the difference between females and males anymore?

I wonder if this is still him trying to regain woke points after speaking out about male people on AWS (and then furiously backpeddling and donating to Mermaids)?

Pota2 · 23/08/2019 15:08

He’s an arrogant wanker. He knows the difference but doesn’t want the TRAs ganging up on him, so is taking this opportunity to prove how ‘woke’ he is.

LangCleg · 23/08/2019 15:17

I cannot stand Jolyon. Everything that's wrong with the posh, patronising, smug wet liberal left.

(I say this as an actual bloody leftist.)

Champagne socialist

Needmoresleep · 23/08/2019 15:43

I had never heard of him till I started reading this forum. What makes his opinions so special? He consistently sounds like a plonker.

Michelleoftheresistance · 23/08/2019 15:43

Oh lord, how do people this thick get into QC positions?

Michelleoftheresistance · 23/08/2019 15:45

And women wanting the right to their own sport, and to not get injured or worse by rugby playing males wanting validation is mere 'fear and hate'. Bless their silly little cotton heads.

Argue that one through court then Jools. I'll hold your coat.

FermatsTheorem · 23/08/2019 15:55

The thing that gets me about JM is he does understand the issues. He wrote a gender critical tweet so he absolutely understands the arguments. It's not that he's woke and trying to maintain the cognitive dissonance by sticking his fingers in his ears and going la la la.

He tweeted, got piled on, recanted (like a heretic being shown the instruments), and has been grovelling ever since, not because he believes this shit, but because he wants an easy life.

The man's an abject coward and intellectually dishonest.

Propertyofhood · 23/08/2019 15:56

That BBC article that he has linked to is very odd, it literally does read like a Daily Mash piece.

At nearly 6ft she stands out among her team-mates, and club captain Jessica Minty-Madley recounts a time she folded an opponent "like a deckchair".

But coach Wayne Mansell notes: "I've seen Kelly struggling more than a lot of the girls with the demands our of training."

That said, Kelly, 33, accepts transgender women may have an advantage in terms of size and strength.

"I do feel guilty, but what can you do?" she says. "I don't go out to hurt anybody. I just want to play rugby."

But what can ya do eh? It's my right to play where I want, with who I want, and fuck everyone else.

And

The affection all at Porth have for Kelly, who has been nicknamed 'Beast' by her team-mates, is clear.

And, most horrifyingly

He can't resist a joke, though, adding: "She's going to be a good, good player for the next few years, as long as we can stop her injuring players in training."

Minty-Madley says Kelly is not treated differently to other members of the squad.

"Kelly has become completely and utterly absorbed into the team," she says.

"She's one of us. She comes in, trains hard, plays hard and parties hard with us afterwards.

"She folded a girl like a deckchair during a game, which was quite funny, but they're still friends."

She folded a girl like a deckchair. Fucking hilarious....

NonnyMouse1337 · 23/08/2019 15:57

Ha! What an arse. Like a lot of other folks, I don't think he wants the TRA brigade after him, so it's easier to make a show of how progressive and woke one is. He's not going to be affected in any way by gender identity ideology, so why risk sticking his neck out. Usually folk become involved in such contentious issues when they have been directly impacted.

Propertyofhood · 23/08/2019 15:59

Oh, and apparently deleted from the original article is a side splitting anecdote about Kelly breaking the coach's ankle!

Just.... Whaddafuck?!!!

RoyalCorgi · 23/08/2019 16:00

By the way, there is already a discussion about this on the rugby thread.

Those quotes are frightening, but they've actually removed a quote from the original version that referred to the coach having his ankle broken by Kelly during training.

Pota2 · 23/08/2019 16:01

Yeah I think the choice of language was deliberate. That’s probably how I would choose to report this too.

RoyalCorgi · 23/08/2019 16:01

Sorry, cross posted with Property.

4dogs · 23/08/2019 16:26

I have been reading that Twitter thread. Amazingly there are a few women on there supporting this, saying it’s fine and calling people transphobic. Unbelievable.

littlbrowndog · 23/08/2019 16:32

You would never beilve that one day a man wa# playing rugby on a women’s team against other women and people are defending it

You would never believe that a guy was playing cricket one day for a men’s team and next day for a women’s team and people defend it

Is being defended as brave and courageous.

How the fuck as this come to be

MissLawls · 23/08/2019 16:56

He's an arse. And he's doing the Remain cause a lot of harm with his faux support for the menz playing women's sport. Hadley Freeman has given him a good run for his money though and a fair few others. He's got well ratio-ed over there. I hope he feels uncomfortable as a result. Did I say I think he's an arse? He's an arse!

SheWhoMustBeSilent · 23/08/2019 17:06

I think what we see here is Ms Greer, back in 1971 being totally honest and yet, not even anticipating that such hatred of women would ever be this extensive and public in 2019.

Not one of us can now deny the four dimensions of misogyny:

Hmm I suspect the nickname is not an affectionate thing.

Pota2 · 23/08/2019 17:06

I like how he was like ‘I’m on holiday so I won’t engage and I will block those who disagree’. Well, maybe don’t post it in the first place if you can’t even argue your point. I thought he was meant to be a barrister.

GirlDownUnder · 23/08/2019 17:07

Punching down.

Oh so fucking easy and woke points as an extra.

Maybe you can add ‘woke points’ to some kind of ‘supermarket loyalty scheme’ and save on the horrendous cost of Veuve Clicquot.

GirlDownUnder · 23/08/2019 17:10

RoyalCorgi thanks for the heads up re the rugby thread.

RoyalCorgi · 23/08/2019 18:45

Yes, indeed. It's the nerve of the man that gets me. Imagine if white people started lecturing black people about how it was their duty to make way for white people who identified as black and therefore were more oppressed than them. So they ought to be kind and give up black schoolarships and so on, and if they refused, they were being bigoted and unkind.

Pota2 · 23/08/2019 18:54

Yes Royal it is the exact same as the race analogy except transwomen have managed to get the world to believe that they are way more oppressed than women and even than transmen.
