Furries & gimp masks at Surrey Pride

It was Surrey's first Pride recently and yet again people with sexual fetishes are latching on.

I consider myself fairly liberal - I don't give a monkeys if people want to be Furries or wear gimp masks with their own consensual sexual partners.

But nobody is discriminated against on the basis of wearing a gimp mask in their own home Hmm

Why has this suddenly become a thing? What does it even have to do with Pride anyway?

It’s blurring the boundaries and teaching vulnerable adults and children that their feelings of discomfort in bad situations. If you can’t name the danger, because that makes you a ‘bigot’, then you can’t keep yourself safe.

It's all about the normalisation of sexual fetishes, attention seeking and presumably, pissing people off. I've long been horrified at the increasing depravity of porn but if people want to be weirdos in their own homes, as long as it is not hurting anyone I don't care. I don't, however, want to see it in the streets.

It seems these people's lives revolve around porn and sex and they can't cope with the fact that most of us don't care and don't want to see it.

I knew it! I didn't go because of the possibility that I might see this with my son. I asked in advance and didn't get a clear answer. Thanks for posting this. It was billed as family friendly.

Also what s1naidSucks said (what a confusing sentence!) about the blurring of boundaries and the renaming of legitimate discomfort as bigotry. Unfortunately I fear it's even more sinister than that, since pride is meant to be a family friendly event. It seems they are trying to say that kink and fetishes are 'family friendly' which is again them trying to redraw the line about what is acceptable.

It bothers me that they can't decide whether it's a family friendly event or 18 + event.

If they sell it as the former then they need to be strict about what is allowed.

The lack of willingness to be honest or set standards is disturbing. No other type of event would be allowed to flaunt safeguarding of children so blatantly.

  1. The event is family friendly and complies with the UK Laws as advised by our local Police force. There will be no nudity allowed and all entertainers, hosts etc are advised of the family friendly policy.

  1. People can come how they feel comfortable. Pride in Surrey are an inclusive event welcoming of everyone.

So family friendly means fetish is welcome.

The people wearing this are utterly taking the piss out of what Pride means. These men, and yes they are usually men, see only the sexual side and see aside as a route for access to that.

I mean it's Pride, I'm fine with drag queens (not sexual) and some leather but full on gimp masks and furry stuff is a bit much for a family friendly event.

Also...people like to do all kinds of things sexually, and it's no doubt part of their identities but the idea that this means everyone needs to accept it being paraded down the high street seems absurd.

I'm not from the LGBTQ community - I wouldn't have necessarily thought fetishes were any more of an LGBTQ thing than a hetero thing? Does anyone from the community have any thoughts on this?

Plenty of 'Furries' are straight - so they're making Pride into a 'whatever gives you an erection' parade. Which seems totally outside of the point of Pride to me.

I’ve been to a few prides to show support but it’s not family friendly. A man once showed me his penis piercing - unsolicited I may add!

Is it? That seems like quite a homophobic thing to say - I thought that for years, gay people fought to try to get people to accept that their sexual orientation wasn't a fetish.

Does anyone know what the blue, pink and yellow flag draped around the other blokes shoulder signifies? I can't keep up with the different flags tbh.

I just googled the flag - it's the 'pansexual flag'.

The pink signifies girls, the blue signifies boys and the yellow signifies non-binary. How progressive! How woke! Who says any this is based on crappy horseshit gender stereotypes!
