Tbf, whilst I do have massive issues with Paris Lees, I don't have any problem with trans women or men advertising products traditionally marketed at women. If anything, it's a good thing to have a diverse mix of people advertising products. I see no reason why a person with XY chromosomes can't use Pantene?

However, I do agree that having Paris Lees alongside the likes of Katy Piper is disgusting. I actually feel really shit that Piper was put into that position. Sad

I'm currently using Pantene volume shampoo and conditioner and with zero styling I reckon my hair looks better than PLs.
The rest of me is 58 yo woman so I'm not holding my breath waiting for a lucrative contract.

ErrolTheDragon · 08/09/2019 13:48

I didn't manage to watch the whole clip before boredom set in, what exactly was the 'it' that had become 'aspirational'?

Ereshkigal · 08/09/2019 14:31

It's only aspirational amongst themselves.

Exactly. How many people remotely care about what Paris Lees does or doesn't do?

I gather someone was offended by fact.

Ereshkigal · 08/09/2019 15:06

Often the case.

"Speaking at Fortune’s Most Powerful Women conference"

littlebillie · 07/07/2020 13:55

Women's Aid is receiving sponsorship from the brand.

I've had long waist length hair and also suffered from hair loss - I first went completely bald at age 14 which was not fun and was worse because I was a girl.
I've rocked a shaved head and v short pixie through choice but also suffered greatly when I've had to have little to no hair through illness. I've cried as my hair has come away in my hands.
I have suffered the shit that is 'femaleness or feminity is associated with long hair', I truly have.
But (taken in isolation) aren't we holding PL to a different standard here? Every shampoo ad and tons of female models who swish their long hair around in them are perpetuating the bullshit that it's associated with feminity/a way to express being female.
Why are people more upset when a transwomen peddles this bullshit message than a woman or a man?
It's the message I'm against not the person specifically.

happydappy2 · 07/07/2020 17:46

I have no issue with PL advertising shampoo-we all know what they are-I do wish they would respect womens right to access single sex toilets and stop tweeting on about 'I just want to pee-who's going to check my genitals' etc etc Personal responsibility should make people stick to the rules-its not up to us to always have to try and enforce them.

It's the association with Women's Aid mainly for me, as when PL was told that some women were afraid of men, PL dismissively wrote that "some people are afraid of escalators". Paris doesn't care, and shouldn't be involved with WA. Pure validation as a "woman". No empathy.

Broomfondle · 07/07/2020 19:13

@Ereshkigalangcleg
I agree with you regarding Women's Aid, it's a direct conflict (in my opinion). I suppose I'm being a bit difficult because I'm taking the advert in isolation rather than PL as a spokesperson as a whole.
