Seriously Procter & Gamble? Is this a joke?

Paris Lees would claim to have given up Pringles for Jason Momoa but still eat them secretly. Incidentally so would Paris of Troy.

BigGreenOlives · 07/06/2019 04:19

LordProf that was my point. I presume Paris Hilton is named after the city. When I was young I knew a Greek man called Paris, I guess his parents thought he was an incredibly handsome baby.

auldcraw · 07/06/2019 07:51

My husband uses pantene cos it's cheap. He's over 60 and mostly bald. He's also available for your advertising campaign Procter and gamble!

Gingerkittykat · 07/06/2019 19:12

@MenstruatorExtraordinaire

I have a fun form of alopecia known as androgenic alopecia, aka female pattern baldness. I developed it at 40 but it is normally older women and partly influenced by genetics, and partly by female hormones and looks different to male pattern baldness. I've no idea how that would work with a MTF with their male genetics and female hormones!

(and irrelevant to this thread but they market the male and female hair loss products (most of which do nothing) differently. Male minoxidil (which can actually work) is 5%, in a black bottle. Female minoxidil is 2%, in a nice lilac bottle and costs about twice as much. Dermatologist said to use the male one.)

hipsterfun · 07/06/2019 22:21

So if I’d used Pantene’s hair-trashing, silicone-heavy product in the 90s I’d be womanning correctly now? Shit.

Live and learn, live and learn.

MenstruatorExtraordinaire · 07/06/2019 22:24

Gingerkittykat What's the betting that infinitely more money has been devoted to trying to cure male pattern baldness than the female version?

JustAnotherWoman · 08/06/2019 00:34

I don't chose to buy brands that use violent individuals to promote their products, so them using P Lees will change my buying habits as I'd buy Pantene for dh & ds, I didn't use it myself.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 08/06/2019 07:41

It’s like when the winners of Mum of The Year are people like Katie Price and Kerry Catona. Confused

People just go for a name they’ve heard - doesn’t matter what they are actually like.

Areupeopleforreal · 28/06/2019 18:50

So heard about this discussion and shocked at your ignorance and hatred ....... how you can troll another human being is appalling ... Paris had a hard life and she has made the best of it learnt from her mistakes and deserves a happy future. So keep trolling if thats how you spend your time and enegy ...

Areupeopleforreal · 28/06/2019 18:54

Sounds like you saddos need to get a life ,and yes im a natural born woman and have given birth and and am am ashamed of you , real women dont act like you

Hirsutefirs · 28/06/2019 18:56

How much does a Cockney pay for shampoo?

Sheyher · 07/09/2019 10:22

Been seeing PL promoting this product in past few days with a glossy commercial (online only so far haven’t seen it on telly) They are sat there having had tons of surgery to make them appear feminine such as FFS, breast implants etc... all voluntarily to enhance their features and add feminine cues. And they are also sat there with a prison term under their belt for an act of male violence committed when they were known as someone other than Paris (admittedly it was committed against a man looking for their services as a prostitute so am not getting the hankies out) I get it’s a transformative story of redemption, reinvention etc. but to be one of the key promotional figures in a campaign alongside Katy Piper who has had to go undergo hundreds of agonising surgical procedures after some evil act of spectacular male violence was visited upon her body? Who are Pantene wanting to win over by having them as a role model? They make a great deal in the ad about their hair being ‘real’ and not a wig which must irk some other folk who rely on wigs to present to the world as female. It seems a bizarre campaign. And yes PL has decent enough hair, fair play, but all this ‘a woman’s crowning glory’ nonsense does my nut in at the best of times!

Endofthedays · 07/09/2019 10:43

For a very long time in feminism, femininity has referred to gender stereotypes and female has referred to sex. This was also the WHO definition.

So yes, long hair is one of the primary markers of femininity across very many cultures, including our own. There’s a whole chapter devoted to long hair in Brownmiller’s classic book on gender stereotypes... femininity.

It is not the same thing as femaleness.

It seems very odd to complain about trans activists misusing the words which refer to biological sex but then also complain about people using the word femininity accurately to refer to things other than sex.

There is no issue with Paris Lees advertising Pantene.

RuffleCrow · 07/09/2019 10:48

I think their profits from this campaign will likely speak for themselves.

Then again Proctor and gamble probably have the ole Genderist Top-Up to soften the blow.

BelleHathor · 07/09/2019 11:10

Marketing Executives should really adhere to the saying of "go woke go broke". Gillette just lost $8bn after a campaign that denigrated its target market. I have also not bought any Dove products since their trans mum ad a while ago.

Yambabe · 07/09/2019 11:57

Slightly o/t but there is a twitter #menwithgoodhair. Not sure if anyone but me uses it but some of my photos can be found tagged with it! Grin

VictoriaSpongeAndTea · 07/09/2019 11:59

BelleHathor which campaign was this for Gillette and where would I find the figures ? genuinely interested in being able to use this for work but I need sources

BadgerOfDoom · 07/09/2019 12:10

I can't get annoyed at this as the sector is already hugely oversayurayed with female models.

It's not as if trans people are even asking for equal representation. This is the first time it's ever happened.

BelleHathor · 07/09/2019 18:33

Victoria, not sure where you would find the exact figures. The backlash happened in January:

Hears about the writedown in value last month :

Nottrueatall · 07/09/2019 18:58

That's another company/producr off my list of things I can buy for myself and my family.

Nottrueatall · 07/09/2019 18:58

youllhavehadyourtea · 07/09/2019 19:20

interesting quote in that last article linked

But by alienating roughly 50 per cent of potential customers, many brands end up taking a hit to their bottom line — “Get woke, go broke.”

Amalfimamma · 07/09/2019 20:02

But does Paris use Pantene in everyday life?

Paris, like LM and AC to name just 2, always seems to have hair that hasn't been washed in months.

Unless the shampoo is specifically for people who won't wash their hair it's a strange choice....

FlyingOink · 08/09/2019 12:08

Dammit I read this whole thread just to see if I could post that but I've been beaten to it!
