Dundee councillor Gregor Murray guilty of breaking rules by swearing at woman on Twitter

Of particular interest:

"In their judgement the panel said the councillor had also abused the complainer by referring to her as a TERF….a transexclusionary radical feminist.

The panel said: “It was evident that the councillor’s description as TERFS being scum and hateful and vile that he intended it to be a term of abuse.”

Gregor Murray has flounced from the SNP.

A little reminder of his comments while still children's convener.

He had to resign his post as Children's Convener too, but the BBC put out an article that implied he was the victim!

Are these the same comments the SNP are addressing or new ones, does anyone know?

So where will he pop up next? Lib Dems or the Greens?

terryleather · 15/05/2019 13:08

Yet another male using their non-binary woke bro identity to try and cover up their seething misogyny and white male entitlement.

Let's hope he disappears up his own fundament permanently.

Gregor Murray was my councillor went to see him at his surgery 3 year's ago, he was arrogant and a bit cheeky, not a very nice person, Good Riddance

Popchyk · 15/05/2019 13:32

His resignation statement is me me me me me. Nothing about the people that he is supposed to be serving.

Criticising the SNP for not looking after him properly. Grin

I liked the Dundee Council Leader's statement, ending: “This situation does nothing to alter my administrations work to make Dundee better, bring new jobs and to increase investment. We will continue to work with all elected members from across the political spectrum to deliver that.”

Grey rock.

Maybe some Political parties are starting to remedy that women have the vote?

TirisfalPumpkin · 15/05/2019 13:44

Great autocorrect Karen - some are beginning to remember it, others no doubt would love to ‘remedy’ it Grin (except not really grin-worthy)

SmellsLikeAdultSpirit · 15/05/2019 13:49

Is he a trans man?

R0wantrees · 15/05/2019 13:49

There's considerable history of Gregor Murray's sexism, misogyny & arrogance:

August 2018
Children’s convener resigns following row over expletive-laden social media outbursts
"The North East councillor apologised last month for a series of expletive-laden outbursts on Twitter following an anti-trans protest at London Pride event but was later branded a “disgrace” by party colleague Julie Bell over the remarks.

Gregor Murray, who identifies as gender non-binary and objects to being referred to with the use of the pronoun ‘he’, admitted to making “a number of wrong judgements in communicating with people who campaign against my fundamental human rights”. (continues)

Murray claimed victimhood last year too:

It seems that in 2017 " while deputy convener for education, Cllr Murray attacked Alex Salmond’s plan for a 40% female quota in boardrooms as “f*ing stupid”

extraordinary that its taken this long

R0wantrees · 15/05/2019 13:53

Is he a trans man?

Gregor Murray is male and last year when in the press identified as 'non-binary'. As gender identity can be fluid for some folk Im not sure if this is still the case.

Is he a trans man?

no he's much more special than that. and besides, he can't be because he's not pregnant.

Outanabout · 15/05/2019 14:40

I'm completely befuddled. I've come across a reference to GM being trans, a mention that GM refuses to be referred to as 'he', but this is a person with a beard. Is GM non-binary, transwoman, transman, or what?

R0wantrees · 15/05/2019 14:45

extracts from article linked above which includes Murray's opinions/allegations:

"Gregor Murray told The Courier: “I am extremely sad to announce that after 18 years of giving everything I have, financially, physically and mentally to the SNP, that I feel I must now leave.

“As a trans person, I do not feel welcome, or safe within the party’s structure.

“For the past year, I have had absolutely no support from the party HQ while fighting a series of overwhelmingly vexatious and scurrilous complaints.

“They have been completely derelict in their duty of care towards me, and have not afforded me the same support as others in similar positions. I have been left entirely out of my depth dealing with legal matters I do not understand.”

“The SNP has a major institutional problem with transphobia, and is doing nothing to rectify this.

“While they rightfully condemn Labour for anti-semitism, and the Tories for anti-Islamic sentiment, they remain silent on anti-trans sentiment at all levels within the party.

“Councillors, MSPs and MPs have been openly transphobic for months, and the party hierarchy has done nothing to stop them. Nicola Sturgeon’s words on these matters have been perfect – but we do not need any more words, we need action.

“There are two main issues that Holyrood are considering right now that affect the trans community – the census, and the Gender Recognition Act (GRA).

“Both of these policies are going through committees with transphobic conveners. Extreme right wing fundamentalists with a history of abuse are being given the red carpet treatment at Holyrood in the party’s name.

“SNP MSPs and MPs are attacking trans people, misgendering us and supporting further attacks. The GRA reforms have not moved on for years. The proposed consultation on the rights of non-binary and intersex people is years overdue. The time for platitudes is over. Lives are at stake.”

Murray is male.
Murray identifies as non-binary which is underneath the trans umbrella.
Non-Binary identities are very individualistic so it may mean that Murray does not identify as man or woman or alternatively Murray identifies as both man & woman.

I seem to remember sparkly wellies being of some significance last year.

Murray is also a Scout Leader.

nauticant · 15/05/2019 14:57

Murray identifies as unaccountable. Which means adopting a Teflon status.

Even when held to account like this it's denial and victimhood all the way.

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 15/05/2019 15:10

On the rare occasion when outright misogynists are actually pulled up on their behaviour and tend to flounce, I get hopeful each time that maybe sense is coming back. But then, the misogynist just pops up as a prominent member of another party, and another one takes their place in the old party and all is back as usual.

AlwaysComingHome · 15/05/2019 15:27

Gregor Murray is male and last year when in the press identified as 'non-binary'.

So... attention seeker.

ZebrasAreBras · 15/05/2019 17:12

This is excellent news - Joan MacAlpine is tweeting about it.

Having TERF defined as a term of abuse is particularly good.

LizzieSiddal · 15/05/2019 17:42

Oh I remember him and his nasty behaviour.

Will this have implications for other politicians, frequently calling women TERFS, because there quite a few!

JessicaWakefieldSV · 15/05/2019 19:06

Murray identifies as unaccountable. Which means adopting a Teflon status.

Michelleoftheresistance · 15/05/2019 19:08

Ah. So not being allowed to insult and verbally abuse women is now also transphobic.

Okey dokey. I'll add that to the list. How To Not Be Transphobic already includes being:

anti freedom of belief
anti freedom of religious faith

and according to FPFW's recent impact assessment, you also have to reject people's rights under the Equality Act, the Human Rights act, the Children Act, the Education Act and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Its getting less 'woke' than 'the 12th century called and want you back'.
