I can't access it as not a subscriber but thanks Debbie for promoting trans gender trend's pack.

Getting this into the TES is very much needed.

Actually, I phrased that badly.

There are definitely transwomen I would have many more qualms about than about Debbie - of course there are. But the dividing line should be sex, not 'declared gender plus a certain level of commitment, familiarity and niceness'.

donquixotedelamancha · 10/05/2019 21:13

The is already some Genderist shitbag on the thread asking Debbie how many kids she's abused.

  1. Fuck me Debbie has some balls to keep ploughing on with this despite all the crap she gets.
  1. These knob-jockeys (I'm feeling sweary tonight) really do have no idea that every time they wade into a rational discussion with their awful behaviour they are making the argument for us.
plattercake · 11/05/2019 05:58

From reading Lang's quoted piece, this seems good, but I agree with Dodo that whilst the proponent is a male transwoman person who uses women's single sex spaces, we have a fundamental problem with its integrity. Any hypocrisy undermines the aims and gives wriggle room to opponents (and really makes me raise my eyebrows)

Obviously children in school have particular requirements, captive and vulnerable as they are, but children also exist out of school and need single sex and safeguarded provision outside of school as well and their mothers do too.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 11/05/2019 06:28

This is fantastic news.

How great to finally get some gc sense into schools. This is really important, it's been all one way up to now. This really helps give Transgender Trend credibility.

TT view was the norm up until very recently. The speed at which the TRAs have pushed their agenda has been terrifying.

debbie I salute you.

please forgive my typo, I did not mean to write male transwoman person, I was trying to be careful over language and did not proof read properly. The way I wrote it sounded disrespectful, but that was not my intention. person bit is a typo.

EluphNaugeMeop · 11/05/2019 07:16

It's a great article but even if you have read a pirate copy online please everyone go to your nearest big newsagent and track down a physical copy of the TES and buy it. Newspaper publishers are struggling to break even and whilst pay walls are irritating, journalists and editors do have mortgage/rent, bills and nutritional needs. We need to funnel money into the media sources who publish reasonable, factual articles and who amplify the voices of rational trans people like Debbie. If every time there is a good article like this the publishers notice a jump in sales then the message will get out more.

DebbieInBirmingham · 11/05/2019 07:27

@Plattercake. In this gender debate, language is so politicised that communication can become difficult. Please don't worry. I always assume that people mean well until I am absolutely convinced that they don't.

@KatvonHostileExtremist Thanks. I'm trying to hold firm to my principles. One thing that did take me by surprise when I researched the piece was the speed at which things changed between the Cornwall Guidance (2012) and Allsorts Guide (2014). The way in which basic safeguarding was put to one side was remarkable. Probably it was Claire Graham who first got me thinking on those lines. She is a superb person to follow btw.

DebbieInBirmingham · 11/05/2019 07:34

@EluphNaugeMeop That is a very good point. The TES have a business to run and their staff need to be paid. The printed magazine is £3.50.

EmpressLesbianInChair · 11/05/2019 07:46

Debbie, while you’re here could you shed some light on www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3582469-Does-anyone-know-why-the-Graham-Linehan-fundraiser-is-coming-up-on-google-as-being-for-Debbie-Hayton? It’s all rather confusing.

Upzadaizy · 11/05/2019 07:58

Thanks @DebbieinBirmingham for putting forward such a clear and evidence-based view.

FlorenceLyons · 11/05/2019 14:53

Debbie, this is an excellent article which I think heads and teachers will find incredibly helpful. I'm amazed, and impressed, at the TES for printing it. I'm sure both you and they will be getting a lot of flak for it.

LangCleg · 11/05/2019 15:14

It's been gone over by a lawyer and this is highlighted at the foot of the article, so one would hope not.

Hah! That's great to hear!

KatvonHostileExtremist · 11/05/2019 16:27

That's fascinating Debbie thanks for the tip, it's moved dangerously quickly without a shred of evidence (as well documented now by Panorama etc).

I can not overstate how important it this that the gc view is being presented by the TES. There is hope.

I'm definitely going to try and buy a copy. Now that takes me back!

I'm** sure that won't stop the usual suspects from taking potshots, though.

NowtSalamander · 11/05/2019 18:21

Thank you so much, Debbie. My SLT are really struggling to accommodate our new wave of trans pupils, and I will point them towards this on Monday.

You are always a voice of sanity amidst all the crap you get. All those years of classroom management training really paying off!!

NeurotrashWarrior · 11/05/2019 18:39

Good to hear re lawyer. Thank you Debbie.

Meanwhile, someone is not happy. Natasha Devon "I am absolutely gutted to have to tell you I just officially resigned as a @tes columnist."

NeurotrashWarrior · 11/05/2019 19:56

I wondered how that would go down.

Erm, person who is trans and a teacher tells you the way it should be and you flounce? Don't forget your ego on the way out...

I'm not sure how helpful it is to derail this thread with your views DodoPatrol

Women should not be censured for differing with the position of transsexuals, in a space designed for debate about feminism, by women. (However strong our female socialisation is).

truthisarevolutionaryact · 11/05/2019 20:06

TinselAngel
I did acknowledge this shortly after making that comment. I also explained that it is so rare for anyone to get publicity in the Education press about this safeguarding disaster that I was concerned that the message was not diluted for any passing teachers who might read this thread (as opposed to my female socialisation) But I might be wrong about that Wink

NeurotrashWarrior · 11/05/2019 20:08

Nothing on Debbie's article but clearly a lot of GC commentators and very worried teachers around blockers etc, bar a few who claim no issue.

OP posts:
NeurotrashWarrior · 11/05/2019 20:10

Truth and angel - I agree with both of you. A very complex area.

it's so very important this message gets to school leaders.

NeurotrashWarrior · 11/05/2019 20:18

Interestingly there's a trans widows thread on the TES forums.

I also forgot how shit their interface is

Apologies for the derail Neurotrash, but it's something I feel so strongly about, I can't help pointing it out.
