He's taking a break but he's left us with this. I may have cried a little...

I've stood by the side watching this debate for about a year now. Afraid to dip my toe in lest I get blasted into oblivion for my lack of knowledge.

This article has summed things up beautifully so thank you for sharing. I still dont know how to adequately put this into my own words. It's such a deep and emotive subject. That article is all I need.

I love trans people. I always have. Every trans person has the right to feel like and dress like a woman, change their name, change the way they look, change whatever they like. But I agree wholeheartedly that you cannot change sex. Gender is fluid. Sex is not. And it's scary that those radical trans activists are so intent on wrenching away any equality that women have fought for and continue to fight for to this day.
Not only that but they obliterate any opportunity to discuss. If you dare question them, you're just bombarded with hatred and threats.

I find it quite terrifying.

Thank you again for sharing.

Thank you Glinner. From a serial name changer.
Such a powerful article which I will be sharing with my super-woke Guardian reading DH. I need him to start hearing me.

BoreOfWhabylon · 08/05/2019 21:05

@Glinner

Thank you, you lovely man. You look after you now. You could always drop in here from time to time though Smile

RaininSummer · 08/05/2019 21:21

What a powerful piece of writing.

NanooCov · 08/05/2019 21:25

Love this. Just linked to it on my Facebook. I know some of my friends will really appreciate it too. But I am almost certain to lose some others. So be it.

donquixotedelamancha · 08/05/2019 21:31

There have been hundreds of women who have spoken up and talked about the impacts on women's rights, why didn't he use their words?

He very, very often does. That thread is excellent, nothing wrong with highlighting it.

Are male transpeople opinions more valid

I think it's fairly obvious he doesn't think that.

or have a bigger impact?

Sometimes yes, because they show up the lie that the only people concerned over self ID are transphobes. As Kristina rightly points out in the thread- she gets away with saying things that women are shouted down for.

The people to people to blame for women being shouted down are the ones doing the shouting (squints eyes at LOJ, Penny Mordaunt, stonewall et al).

NanooCov
Good for you. Im not that brave! I will miss Glinner on twitter.

Flippin · 08/05/2019 21:37

Thanks, Glinner! It won’t be the same without you. My husband is very aware of the issues around trans ideology also due to your brave and eloquent stance.

WallyBee · 08/05/2019 21:37

* "*there are, it seems to me, four groups that benefit from the toxicity around this topic: predatory men, con artists, misogynists and fetishists. It is in their interests and their interests alone, that none of us can have a grown-up conversation about this subject"

This x 100

TerfectlyImperfect · 08/05/2019 21:46

Thanks Glinner Flowers

nicenewdusters · 08/05/2019 21:53

Wonderful piece of writing.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 08/05/2019 21:55

A brave, wonderful man.

I wish there was more like him in this world.

LizzieSiddal · 08/05/2019 22:04

Thank you to Glinner.

I’m glad he’s taking a break, the constant attacks he faces must be mentally exhausting to deal with.

MindTheMinotaur · 08/05/2019 22:11

Thanks Glinner, you're much appreciated

hipsterfun · 08/05/2019 22:16

HumphreyCobblers · 08/05/2019 22:20

That is a brilliant article.

HumberElla · 08/05/2019 22:22

Thank you Glinner. I’m sorry that you felt let down by other high profile people not joining you. You made a big difference and I really do think more people are being brave and talking now.
Don’t be a stranger.

Oncewasblueandyellowtwo · 08/05/2019 22:22

Thanks Graham for all you've done. And you better bring Pope Ted to Ireland!! Xx Flowers

Scanon · 08/05/2019 22:26

All the eloquence I lack. Brilliant piece.

ZebrasAreBras · 08/05/2019 22:33

Thanks glinner.

Now please write Pope Ted because I want to come and see it Grin God knows, I could do with a good laugh in these humourless days.

I do think your support has been a benefit, and I thank you for speaking up for women. Come back to us soon.

Trousering · 08/05/2019 22:33

I see the nasties have arrived in the comments. They are always there hovering and waiting for the chance to hiss and spit at people. Really disturbing.

SarahTancredi · 08/05/2019 22:41

Nailed it.

Thank you Glinner.

It is truly appreciated. Flowers

SeaWitchly · 08/05/2019 23:06

^Will be sad to see Graham leaving this debate - he's had a huge impact.*

He has. £500,000 for Mermaids was a great effort. Thanks Graham.
