He's taking a break but he's left us with this. I may have cried a little...

I'm grateful to anyone and everyone who puts their head over the parapet.
Glinner was onto this and speaking out while I was still thinking, 'Where's the harm?' He's been dealing with abuse on a daily basis and he's had the court case and poor health to deal with. If he feels - and maybe his family do too - that he needs to take a break then I wish him all the best.

A good male ally in the fight for the liberation of women will boost women's voices. It's a good barometer, I find

I'm Sad now.

Don't blame him one bit though. Thanks for all you did Glinner. You're a ⭐️.

My favourite unintentionally humourous quote:

'However, I thought that by being consistent in my message and explaining it repeatedly, people would eventually see the nuances of the debate, and furthermore, the need for debate.'

Hahahhahhahahahahahahhhahahahahahahahahahaha Grin Grin Grin

Oh my sides. Very funny man, that Graham Linehan.

InionEile · 09/05/2019 23:08

And the comments are a treat as usual. 'No loss, transphobe! Crawl back under your rock!!! TWAW!!!' etc etc. Yawn. They have no arguments to counter what he says, except denial. They simply deny what he says about the medicalisation of children and how appealing transgender ideology is for homophobic parents. 'Because that never happens'. Deny, deny, deny is the only TRA approach.

I hope some day he - and all of us - are proven right. I have a feeling there will be a child safeguarding scandal of Jimmy Savile proportions in the future but for now no-one wants to listen.

This is perfectly put: the only people who benefit from the current state of affairs are predators, con artists, misogynists and fetishists. Exactly.

I'm wondering why it's so vitally necessary to always amplify the voices of trans 'feminine' people when the women involved are concerned with the erosion of women's rights by a group of people who are not women?
Yep. I also think that people who are not engaged with the issue get the impression that it's a row within the trans community and nothing to do with non-trans people.

But I understand why Glinner chose KH's words for his piece. It's aimed at his peers who don't give a shit about ordinary women's concerns but who'll read anything written by a trans person just to be woke.

tobee · 10/05/2019 01:37

Absolutely agree about your Savile comment, Inion. Can't you see this BBC?

SirVixofVixHall · 10/05/2019 10:15

The comments....so many reasonable women, and then adolescent vitriol and abuse from TRAs. I feel for you Glinner, dealing with that day in, day out. I don’t address this issue on twitter anymore for this reason, as I know it would stop me sleeping and affect my health generally.

The sixteen year old daughter of a friend has been put on hormones, after a suicide threat. She fits the sudden onset gender dysphoria picture. Family breakdown, possible ASD, online a lot etc. It is totally heartbreaking to think that she is now on the road to sterility, at sixteen ! Yet this is presented as progressive. A healthy young teenage girl, who is now taking drugs that will have irreversible effects.

It is like the castrati all over again. Thousands of boys castrated when only a tiny fraction of those would go on and achieve any level of success. For every Farinelli, several thousand boys who could never have children, whose appearance marked them out for life. Western children are being put on puberty blockers when we know that this ends in cross sex hormones and sterility, and that if left alone the vast majority would go through puberty and be reconciled with their sex.
Suzy Green says this is not an issues, these children who would have desisted if left alone, as “being trans is not a negative outcome”.

nauticant · 10/05/2019 10:33

Your post immediately made me think of this comment under Glinner's article:

"then why are these children being sent down a medical pathway AT ALL?"

because they’re not.

good lord you’re a bad liar.

To me, one sign of a cult is when people will deny the reality of what is directly in front of them that everyone can see. (Well, everyone who is willing to open their eyes and look that is.)

Justhadathought · 10/05/2019 10:40

Absolutely agree about your Savile comment, Inion. Can't you see this BBC?

Unfortunately, unless you learn from your mistakes, you are bound to repeat them. Ultimately too many people don't want to stand up and take responsibility for voicing their concerns. And so they deny their instincts and go along with the pack. Social exclusion is the great, driving fear.

All of this is happening in plain view, but people refuse to see. So we see Peter Tatchell, the great gay champion, denying that trans ideology is both homophobic and misogynistic - and when presented with evidence, denying it.

SirVixofVixHall · 10/05/2019 10:45

Peter Tatchell. The man who says that he has friends who were having sex with adults at nine, and haven’t been damaged by it.
There is a reason that it is mainly women speaking out , and it isn’t solely to do with the loss of our rights. It is also to do with the way men see sex as their God given right, and their kinks, whatever they are, as something to be indulged.

Justhadathought · 10/05/2019 10:46

Analysis: How did Savile get away with it?

"Dame Janet Smith says the BBC failed to investigate the "warning signs" adequately. She does not believe that senior managers knew about Jimmy Savile but she certainly thinks there was a corporate failure to take the issue of protecting young people...."

Dazzled by the glitter of fame, we are blind to the grime that lies behind it

SirVixofVixHall · 10/05/2019 10:56

nauticant yes that post made me wince, when we know a girl in just this situation, in a European country. Another girl in my dd’s class has started wearing a binder. Again ASD. I find it tragic.
Imo, the girls who are being scooped up by the trans train are those who in my generation would have had an eating disorder, and in the generation below me, might have self harmed. They are girls who, like most of us, are finding the growth into womanhood difficult, who don’t like the way their bodies are changing, who are struggling with self esteem and anxiety, and for whom transitioning is their medium of expression. I do not believe on any level that these teenage girls somehow have a “boy brain”. It is a ridiculous, regressive notion. These girls need support and help to get through their mid teens and into adulthood. Many of them will be dealing with a range of issues, bullying, family breakdown, exam pressure, peer pressure re appearance, sexual pressure from a generation of boys used to porn, and also in some cases abuse. If you felt it was possible, what girl wouldn’t want to try and become a boy to escape abuse ?
We as a society are failing these girls. Brave doctors have spoken out, but there are many others failing these girls.
I keep thinking of how they will feel, fifteen years down the line.

LizzieSiddal · 10/05/2019 11:20

”Dame Janet Smith says the BBC failed to investigate the "warning signs" adequately. She does not believe that senior managers knew about Jimmy Savile but she certainly thinks there was a corporate failure to take the issue of protecting young people

Well the BBC won’t be able to get away with that excuse this time, there are lots of “warning signs” including feminists making complaints, in-depth investigations on the front page of The Times etc, and the BBC are not only ignoring these warnings but are actively promoting Mermaids, Stonewall, child “drag artists” etc etc.

There will be no excuses this time and I only hope they are exposed sooner rather than later.

NeurotrashWarrior · 10/05/2019 11:22

Really good.

Filing under "to give to the uninitiated for peaking purposes."

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 10/05/2019 20:05

I would also like to thank Graham (and all the feminists also) who continually put themselves in the line of fire to defend womens rights. I totally understand it gets overwhelming, I barely tweet and still receive daily threats and such.

The transactivists in the replies..how unexpected that they have no argument besides shouting transphobe and such. As usual.

Kilbranan · 10/05/2019 20:43

Thanks Graham
I appreciate all you have done. I think quoting a transwoman who understands and agrees with gc women is a pretty effective way of getting the message across. We need to be realistic about this, misogynistic men (and women) are only too happy to write off feminists as being hysterical (deliberate choice of words)

FloralBunting · 10/05/2019 20:57

I had decided to leave this one as I've said my piece and I do appreciate Glinner's part in publicizing this.

But I do need to say that if the argument about putting a transperson who identifies as female so prominently in the centre of things is to try and 'convince' men (or women) who are misogynistic and wouldn't listen to women, then I can guarantee it is doomed to failure.

Justhadathought · 10/05/2019 21:52

My impression is that people such as Miranda Yardley and Debbie Hayton don't identify 'as' women, but 'with' women. They know they are male, and their 'transition' has purely been a way to resolve an inner anxiety and feeling of dysphoria. I don't agree with lionising them, though. But their contributions are very welcome, as well as enlightening. Certainly for me.

I don't see that they have been placed at the 'centre of things' - even their voices do have a certain kind of authority because they are trans.

Would we still be living with slavery if it was not for the voices of prominent white men? Maybe we would.

3timeslucky · 11/05/2019 15:00

@R0wantee

*In fairness to the poster she said it was better if trans people of both sexes spoke out on this.

On what, women's rights & Safeguarding?*

No, on what it means to be trans (as opposed to magically capable of changing sex). Having said that, I'm not adverse to anyone of any sex or presentation actually understanding why there is a need for safeguarding or women's rights. And that's a general observation rather than specific to the trans issue.

3timeslucky · 11/05/2019 15:01

Sorry messed up the bolding process again. There has to be an easier way.

3timeslucky · 11/05/2019 17:23

averse, not adverse.
