Rape crisis centre - staff trained to “ask the cis guest to leave”

I know most trans are perfectly nice people just living their lives, who need the same services as everyone.

Re rape crisis centres, I think a way to balance everyone’s needs would be dedicated facilities for transwomen.

Remember, a TW may choose to:

  • have zero hormonal or surgical treatment, hence retain their pre-transition physiology and facial hair
  • dress like a man (see “trans butch lesbian)

In other words, it may be impossible to discern their gender identity visually (the training covers this).

Also, Self-ID would mean that transition requires only a stat dec. We know men will abuse this, anyone who thinks otherwise is living in a privilege bubble.

I think if a trans woman is truly nice then they wouldn't be volunteering/seeking support in a rape crisis centre tbh. Any transwoman doing this is doing it to make a point imo.

2BthatUnnoticed · 01/05/2019 13:08

Also this is not the fault of TW at all - feedback I think needs to address the crisis centre and it’s management, who are training staff this way.

If you can't control your trauma responses not to upset the male, and if you can't play along pretending the male is female, then you lose your right to services.

FUCK. THAT.

This should be in every national fucking newspaper. Everywhere. And every fucking politician should be forced to defend why the hell they believe in withdrawing services from women who won't put men's feelings above theirs even when they've been fucking raped.

Michelleoftheresistance · 01/05/2019 13:13

Not to mention: Do NOT fucking call me cis.

Redshoeblueshoe · 01/05/2019 13:17

Stonewall can quite easily afford to set up rape crisis centres, and refuges for men and TW
So why don't they ?
Well we all know why

Genderfreelass · 01/05/2019 13:19

What Michelle said.

KneelJustKneel · 01/05/2019 13:21

That is truly shocking.

Why cant this be in the news!?!?

AssassinatedBeauty · 01/05/2019 13:22

Where is that image from and is it genuinely from a training session for actual rape crisis staff?

If true, asking a woman to leave a rape crisis centre because they are traumatised by the presence of a male bodied person is disgusting. As is calling them transphobic for their reactions.

Mylittlepony374 · 01/05/2019 13:23

I've been a lurker here for a while. Never posted. I've just been tipped over the edge.

Ask the woman who has been raped by a male to leave rape crisis/ deny them a service because they can't control a trauma response to a "male bodied person"???

What the actual fuckity fucking fuck is the world coming to?

Agree 100% with michelleoftheresistance.

2BthatUnnoticed · 01/05/2019 13:24

Someone has tweeted it to Penny Mordaunt, Maria Miller and W & E Committee asking them to comment.

Even saying “identifies as a women” might be transphobic - must say “is a woman” to the guest having a trauma response, or you risk affirming their “transphobia.”

I thought the point of rape crisis centres were to help women with their trauma. What good will telling a traumatised woman to leave do?

GeordieGenes · 01/05/2019 13:26

Whoever wrote on that white board has blood on their hands

QueenOfTheTofuTree · 01/05/2019 13:29

Can I just ask why it's the 'cis' woman who has to leave and not the transwoman? Just bloody why?

FizzyGreenWater · 01/05/2019 13:33

Jesus fuck.

I despair.

FizzyGreenWater · 01/05/2019 13:34

Can I just ask why it's the 'cis' woman who has to leave and not the transwoman? Just bloody why?

Because males are more important.

Michelleoftheresistance · 01/05/2019 13:34

We've been asking repeatedly, to politicians and political lobby groups forcing the hands of services by bullying, harassment and threatened loss of funding: what is going to happen to the women you exclude when you include these men?

Now we know. Women who don't bow to men don't get services.

The primary role of women's services is now to pander to males openly at the cost of women and women who object are to be excluded.

I am so done with this shit.

OldCrone · 01/05/2019 13:34

These organisations have been put under enormous pressure to accommodate male-bodied transgender people, regardless of the effect on women. Some of this pressure has come from government bodies.

These are some excerpts from the "Transgender Policy & Procedural Guidance" produced by Welsh Women's Aid using funding from the Welsh Government.

In relation to enabling transgender people to access services, rather than focussing on where someone might be in their transition journey, provide a service to that person based on how they are defining their gender. This supports a positive and inclusive response to transgender service users and also ensures services are complying with legal requirements.

WWA services will therefore make its services available to all transgender people, regardless of whether they are intending to or have undergone permanent gender reassignment or have full legal recognition under the Gender Recognition Act 2004.

The Equality Act 2010 highlights that single sex/gender specific services can only provide a different service or refuse a service to transsexual people under exceptional circumstances and these circumstances are individual to each case - it is illegal and not acceptable to instate a blanket ban. Whilst this legislation only applies to transsexual people, this policy extends to all who identify as transgender.

If circumstances arise in relation to other service users’ discomfort around sharing services with transgender people, services will work to support and educate them in the same way as they would around equality issues generally, such as ethnicity, religion and sexual orientation.

Where services are not gender specific or are for male victims of domestic violence, they will be accessible and responsive to the needs of all transgender people and to transgender men.

Note that transgender men are not welcome to use the women's services.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 01/05/2019 13:35

We all know why the woman has to leave: gender hierarchy innit?

Even when complying with feminine stereotypes, everyone can recognise the man in the room

Popchyk · 01/05/2019 13:36

That first statement says:

cis guest has a trauma response to male presenting / male bodied guest

and then later:

If guest ID's as a woman, then say she is a woman...

So this women's refuge is to clearly designed cater for men who do not even necessarily identify as women. So any male who identifies as transgender (so gender-fluid, non-binary or occasional cross-dresser) would get you in.

tempytemp · 01/05/2019 13:38

Where did that come from? For me the worst line is "she's a woman ... I understand you're triggered "

Fucking outrageous lying.

2BthatUnnoticed · 01/05/2019 13:42

Gosh I hope it’s all right to post it, I’m guessing someone who works there shared it anonymously and might not have meant it to end up here Blush

I saw it on Twitter so can’t vouch for it, but it feels genuine to me. Fionne retweeted it, a very kind transwoman who often speaks up for women and is quite selective in tweeting.

StoppinBy · 01/05/2019 13:43

Oh wow, that is shocking. I consider myself very open minded but I don't support allowing trans women to use services designated to women, women's toilets, showers or women's shred accommodation when it comes to things like school camps.

I don't think this is exclusion, it errs on te side of caution when we know there are twisted people who would use these things to their advantage.

AngryFeminist · 01/05/2019 13:43

I cannot even articulate the burning rage I have right now. Ask the cis guest to leave?! Jesus fucking Christ. Has anyone got a like to the tweet mentioned above?
